1945
Letter written by Magda Goebbels from Schwanenwerder, dated February 1945, adressed to Helene ('Heli') Bouhler.
There's no date written on the letter, but the ink docket notes "12/2/1945". In the second picture, I underlined the word Kinder ("children") in red.
Tumblr media
My dear Heli!
(...) A thousand thanks for thinking of me on my birthday and for the lovely chrysanthemums you sent me.
Tumblr media
The children are growing and developing nicely and that is a great happiness for us. My husband works like a horse and I follow my obligations as well as I can. In this difficult time and with the added burden of more work for all of us I am nonetheless happy and in good form as far as my health is concerned. At the moment I am undergoing a course of injections for weight gain because I weigh only [?] kilograms. How much I long to see you again. If you don't come to Berlin I think I must invite myself to Nuszdorf. I would really like to do that after Christmas if you can't come to Berlin first. We are still in Schwanenwerder but at the end of the month we shall go to Berlin for three months.

One of the calendar sheets depicts Helga, Hilde, Helmut, Holde, Hedda and Heide Goebbels with their father in 1942.

Under the photograph, a quote by Joseph Goebbels can be read:
“I am making a very personal commitment when I say that children are our greatest happiness and our richest blessing on earth. They give joy and sunshine to our personal lives, and they also vouch for the immortality of our entire people.”

Hallo Frida! Danke!❤
Hi! There are different testimonies regarding the relationship of the children with their parents. I have collected the testimonies of family friends, workers and the children's nannies in the following section of my page: THE CHILDREN -> FAMILY LIFE (first post)
Based on different accounts :
Helga: According to Rochus Misch: "a definitely Daddy’s girl, with no great fondness for her mother”.
Hilde: I don't know, nothing is mentioned regarding her relationship with her parents.
Helmut: According to Kathe Hubner, his nanny, "Helmut was a little girlish and was not enough for the demands of his father to him”. I think Magda would have understood her only son's sensitive and dreamy character better than Joseph, who wanted his son to be a strong soldier, even when he was a little boy.
Holde: According to Hans Otto Meissner's biography on Magda Goebbels, Holde was “pushed aside” and "teased" by her older siblings. Her father, touched, responded to this by making her something of a favorite, to which she responded with devotion. In fact, on a diary entry Joseph made in the early months of 1939, he wrote Holde was “like a little angel”.
Hedda: I don't know, nothing is mentioned regarding her relationship with her parents.
Heide: when she was born, WW2 had already begun and as she grew, Joseph spent less and less time with her children. So I imagine she was closer to her mother. However, after Heide's birth Magda's physical and mental health suffered many blows, and she didn't spent much time with her children either...

Did the Goebbels children spend there last days in the same bunker as Hitler spent his last days in?
Yes, they did. If you want to know more about it, I recommend you the 1945 -> 1945 section of my page, specially the Monday-Monday, April 23-30 paragraphs:

Locks of hair from Goebbels children
Tumblr media
Bronze case that belonged to one of Goebbels children's nannies. According to the auction house, this case was a personal gift from Joseph Goebbels to one of their children's nannies. On the top of the case, there is a button bearing a sun wheel swastika. Size of the case: 18x14 cm.
Tumblr media
Inside the case there are six locks of hair from Joseph Goebbels children. Sadly, no more information is given.
source: Ratisbons Auction House. Sadly, there isn't any official document that proves that these six locks of hair truly belonged to the Goebbels children, only the consignor's word.

I just realised that an Advent wreath seems to be placed on the table. Two candles seem to be lit. Thus, when this photo was taken, there were 2 weeks left for Christmas, 1938.

Can you give me a brief biography on the Goebbels children? I am finding an interest in them but i don’t know a lot about them. Thank you!!!
Hi! If you want to know more about each child, I recommend you click on "THE CHILDREN" on the main bar. There you can find a short biography of each of them, where I gathered the information I found and keep finding in different books and sources.
