obsessed with mass market paperbacks. their pleasing rectangular proportions. how they fit badly in a hoodie pocket so you can drag them around everywhere with you like a temporary little buddy. the way they fit in your hand because they're MADE for human hands and not as bookshelf decoration. the way the pages feel when you riffle them gently with your thumb. How pristine and crisp they look when you get them and how creased and folded they look when you're done, even if you try to be nice to them. how that wear is okay, how that's correct actually, because they're made with the philosophy that books aren't meant to be PRETTY, they're meant to be read. that little ripple new ones get on the left side from where you hold them when you're reading, the way the ripple only goes as far as you've read, because u change stories by reading as they are changing you. how you can find thousands of these creased and folded and loved little dudes in every thrift store and used book shop and neighborhood library and you can instantly see the ones that someone carried around in a backpack for weeks or read to pieces or gave up on halfway through because they wear being read like fresh snow wears footprints. I love these poorly made, subpar little rectangles so much. truly the people's books.

#ohh this is beautiful!! #just finished this series and i think i've read everything of sanderson's that i care to for now #(elantris; both mistborn eras; stormilight archives; several of the cosmere novellas) #the wax & wayne series is still my favorite (which i expected) but i also really enjoyed stormlight!! #i'm starting to realize i don't actually love 'traditional' epic/high fantasy with lots of character POVs and an intricate overarching plot #and stormlight very much is that! #but right in the beginning kaladin's character caught me by the throat #i love him so much!!! the entire series was worth it for me because i got to follow his journey/growth #i did also enjoy other characters! lol. but frankly the reason i kept reading is because i was so invested in my boy <3 #stormlight archive

Lessie and Wax One of the first images springing into my mind when I started my Wax and Wayne reread. (I mean it is from the very first chapter from Alloy of Law). I really completely forgot all details about their relationship from my first read so it was kind of nice to experience all the twists and turns of it again. ————– [Image description: Drawing of Lessie and Wax crouching behind a fence made from wooden logs and branches held together with rope. There is a colored version and just the scraggly linear. Both are holding revolvers in their hands, are wearing dusters over their clothes and look to be at least in the midst of their thirties. Their coats, pants and boots are smudged with the dusty, red earth.  Lessie’s duster is a muggy white and has a small cape part over the shoulders. Her brown hair is pulled back into a ponytail. She has a square, suntanned face and gives Wax a cheeky, challenging look. Wax’s darker coat is cut into tassel at the shoulders and below the waist.
