I'm thinking again and this time it's about Nie Huaisang being an habitual liar. he lies about little things, he lies about big things. he lies to be more relatable, to get away with a little mischief, he lies to protect and then avenge his brother

and maybe it did all start with his brother. with Nie Mingjue, young and terrified taking Nie Huaisang aside and telling him that father isn't feeling well. that father is sick and angry and Huaisang absolutely must not make him angry. so if father asks something and Huaisang knows the answer would make him mad, it's okay to lie. it's okay to lie to protect yourself and to make sure everything is okay eventually.

Modern AU one time 11 yo Nie Mingjue was crying because he saw a spider on the ground but no adults were around to take care of it (which is good cause past the age of six if anyone saw him cry he’d have to murder them with his bare hands) and little two year old Huaisang comes crawling by, sees the spider, picks that shit up, and eats it.

That’s when Nie Mingjue swore allegiance to him for life. It’s why they’re so close. NMJ owes him so many life debts. NHS has eaten so many bugs over the years.

as infinitely cool as weaponised fans are, i do feel like it pretty much defeats the point of nhs having the fan if it’s just, you know, a funky looking weapon

because the nies are mandalorians in my au, I was thinking of having nhs lean less towards the traditional warrior role and be more of an armourer? (hi non star wars fans who are somehow still reading this: mandalorians are a people who wear armour made out of an almost indestructible metal called beskar, which has huge cultural importance for them. armourers handle and forge that beskar and it’s an extremely respected role.) i feel like that suits nhs’ preference for the arts. except instead of forging armour, he’s like, hey, don’t you think there are... slightly more interesting things we could do with beskar... lots of delicate engravings and maybe some intricate little things like a beskar fan

being an armourer is still super respected and very mandalorian but maybe not when you’re a clan heir and your brother is expecting you to lead your people into battle one day. similar to how nhs’ canon hobbies aren’t exactly inappropriate for someone of his status, but they aren’t what his brother expects of him because of their particular family legacy. the unconventional use of the precious beskar doesn’t help. i also think it works for outsiders not believing he’s a threat because they don’t have that cultural respect for armourers so they just see him as little more than a jewellerymaker

The Untamed Characters and Can They Parallel Park

Jiang Wanyin: is absolutely convinced he can, results vary. Reliably bumps into the front of the car behind him. The car will get parked but he has to complain a minimum of seventeen times. Somehow gets a ticket literally Every Time there is street cleaning

Wei Wuxian: another bitch who is convinced they can parallel park. Does not have his drivers license but drives anyway. Refuses to even try if the space isn’t two car lengths long and then is like :) I did it did everyone see my parallel park :)

Lan Wangji: there is no catch, Lan Wangji can absolutely Parallel Park. Is weirdly aggressive about shoehorning his stupid little Prius into spots he can only Just fit into. It can take up to ten minutes but no one is allowed to say anything about it.

Jiang Yanli: she Can ABSOLUTELY parallel park. Does not brag about it, has never accidentally hit the car in front of or behind her even once.

Wen Chao: private parking garage ass bitch

Nie Huaisang: Can secretly parallel park but lets everyone believe he doesn’t know how to drive so he never has to be the designated driver or get asked to pick people up from the airport

Jin Ling: Tried once, failed, cried about it. Again I do not blame him for this, this is also how it went when I tried to learn how to drive stick

Wen Qing: Going to use ‘Can’ very liberally here. Yes Wen Qing ‘can’ parallel park but she will only correct twice. If god wanted the car to fit perfectly into the spot maybe she should have made parallel parking easier

Wen Ning: Definitely doesn’t know how to parallel park but doesn’t have a complex about it. This is a boy who takes the bus and always thanks the bus driver

Lan Sizhui: Jin Ling makes him park his car whenever they go anywhere. To be clear it takes Lan Sizhui 6 mortifying white knuckle minutes to complete this task but it’s better than the alternative

Lan Jingyi: Can parallel park with varying success, makes Sizhui crazy by playing it fast and loose with how close the car needs to be to the curb to be considered ‘parked’

Meng Yao: spent two weeks learning how to perfectly parallel park after someone vaguely insinuated that he didn’t seem like the type of bitch who could.

Nie Mingjue: Finally! A man who can parallel park in under a ten minutes without being a fucking weirdo about it.

Jin Zixuan: you’re extremely mistaken if you think this bitch doesn’t just uber everywhere

Lan Xichen: walks and takes the train because it’s environmentally conscientious. Has never parallel parked but would probably be able to do it on his first try.

Xue Yang: failed his drivers taste seven times before passing on this eighth on a technicality. Parks by reversing until he hits the car behind him, corrects until he hits the car in front of him, and then continues until he is somewhere approximating parked. His drivers side mirror is hanging on by duct tape and a wire. Where he’s going he doesn’t need mirrors. He has a bumper sticker that says “honk if you’re nasty” and seventeen empty McDonald’s bags in the back of his car.

Song Lan & Xiao Xingchen: these boys Can both parallel park like Normal People and at this point after all I’ve seen I’m willing to reward that behavior.

For my next stupid trick (by which I mean new WIP idea) I think I’m going for a “Five Things That Should Have Destroyed Jiang Cheng And Wei Wuxian’s Relationship Permanently (But Instead Inexplicably Strengthened it?)” format

Rather than people conspiring to try to get JC and WWX to reconcile, some dastardly persons (Jin cousins, maybe? trying to reduce both JL’s uncles’ influence on him?) are scheming to drive a rift between the Yiling Patriarch and Yunmeng Jiang, possibly even incite them to war with one another!

Dastardly schemes I’ve got include:

Fierce Corpse shenanigans on Yunmeng Jiang territory! (Backfires because JC doesn’t believe it’s WWX’s doing, instead they go on a night hunt together to fix it)

Scandalous rumors of an affair between WWX and a Yunmeng Jiang female disciple! (JC knows damn well that WWX is too attached to LWJ to ever cheat on him)

Wei Wuxian gets poisoned at a Yunmeng Jiang banquet! (JC merely hauls WWX off to the infirmary while they reminisce about childhood food poisoning/drunken shenanigans)

But I still need two more. Hmmmm.
