Issue #00, aka the prologue, is out now!
This one’s mainly a vibe and UI check. Most importantly tho, it serves up the impetus to the plot proper.
You can give the Punk a test drive in the next issue; this one’s all about Carmen.
And it’s got angst for days! And content warnings in spades! Writing it really stressed me out! Like, a lot…
Anyway! Check out Issue #00.
This ting is optimized for the duct-taped laptop I made it on, and nothing more. That may prolly change in future updates (knock on wood) but don’t quote me on that.
That said, feel free to tell me about the shiny new bugs and typos you discovered; I’ll do what I can.

basorexia - the overwhelming desire to kiss and Sage, maybe?
22. basorexia - the overwhelming desire to kiss
~200 words; Sage pov
The squirrel still sits on the branch, gnawing at a walnut it found somewhere. Possibly the tree just a few hundred meters away. It’s one of the small red ones, with it a small white belly and a pretty bushy tail twitching as it eats.
Sage watches as the Everheart does. There is calm in their mind, and so Sage is calm too.
The squirrel suddenly lifts its tiny head, its ears moving here and there, its nose twitching. But then it seems to calm and instead moves its tiny hands to rub its face.
Ooh.
The Everheart jumps and a tiny gasp escape their lips.
“Sage? What was that?” they ask, and Sage would blush if they could, but instead, they try to make their presence as small as possible.
I apologize. I just... I really wanted to kiss its tiny head. It is adorable.
They can feel the Everheart ponder, signals and impulses rushing from one point of their brain to the next. They chuckle.
“Yeah. It really is,” they agree and settle down in the window again. “Maybe next time, don’t send every squirrel picture on the internet to my brain, though.”
Of course. I will keep that in mind.

you can fall in love at 30. you can discover your true passion at 40. you can go back to school at 50. you can learn to draw, or paint, or sing at 60. relax. just because you didn’t do most, or any, of the things considered “young adult milestones” doesn’t mean you never will. there’s no time limit on happiness.

Does Master Keko have children? Will there be someone to take care of him when he is too old to work? I am very fond of him and want him to be comfortable after his years of service. 💖
He doesn’t have children, but he does have many loved ones who will help take care of him after he retires!
Generally people are taken care of by a larger community instead of just their direct family. In smaller villages this tends to be the entire village since everyone would know each other, but in bigger towns or cities like Marabad it’d typically be a whole neighborhood, in some cases even the entire district depending on its size.
In Keko’s case, he lives in a very tight-knit district, so beyond family he also has many neighbors and friends who would look out for him!

This is a Part II of our posts on Yasuo Kuniyoshi.
After the Pearl Harbor bombing in 1941, Kuniyoshi, who was legally a Japanese citizen, was re-classified from “resident alien” to an “enemy alien” by the U.S. government. He had to surrender his camera, and his binoculars were confiscated. His bank account was frozen and his movements were restricted. He could not leave his apartment to teach at the Art Students League in the months after the Pearl Harbor, so his students went to his apartment for classes. But, Kuniyoshi was considered relatively fortunate compared to Japanese Americans and Japanese immigrants on the West Coast, who were ordered to leave their homes and forced to live in internment camps.
Kuniyoshi was undoubtedly the most famous Japanese artist living in the United States at that time, and he was awarded a first prize at the Carnegie International Exhibition during the war. Given the current climate, being singled out for a prize was “almost beyond belief” for Kuniyoshi.
In 1946, the U.S. State Department purchased Kuniyoshi’s Circus Girl Resting (1925) for an international exhibition entitled “Advancing American Art,” which attracted much criticism from conservative politicians and President Truman for its “communistic tendencies.” Kuniyoshi’s painting was singled out again and again as the most offensive work in the exhibition. Despite these odds, Kuniyoshi became the first living artist to receive a retrospective exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1948.
Kuniyoshi painted many works expressing his anti-war sentiments. But his position was complicated, and he hoped to apply for U.S. citizenship when the McCarran-Walter Act passed in 1952, which finally permitted the naturalization of Asian immigrants. However, before this could become reality, he passed away from a long battle with cancer in 1953.
