so. FUN FACT

tumblr is apparently rolling out a beta for a new post editor that essentially makes it so there are no longer post “types” (text post, audio post, photo post, etc.), and instead all types of content are better integrated into a single post. pretty neat, right?

…until you read the fine print.

The maximum number of total content blocks allowed in a single post is 250.

i emailed support and asked whether each paragraph counts as a content block. i received this reply:

SO. each paragraph counts as a content block, and i’m only allowed 250 content blocks in one post. the solution provided was to reformat my fics by using shift+enter after every paragraph instead of simply enter. which is already unnecessarily annoying in of itself, but then you come to the second hurdle: 

The maximum character length of a single text block is 4096 characters.

so–what?? besides spending my time writing thousands upon thousands of words, i’m expected to copy-paste it and then reformat everything, counting every single one of those words to make sure they fit within the restrictions? or i’m supposed to chop my fics up into multiple parts, even when i don’t want to? how exactly are writers supposed to write on this platform?? as you all know, my style tends to run pretty dialogue-heavy, so i start new paragraphs (and, thus, content blocks!!!) pretty damn often. i did a quick check, and let it snow, at almost 19k, is 550 paragraphs. with this new system, i would be forced to upload it in three (3!!!!!) posts! even my shortest chapter of ego, at 8.8k, is 350 paragraphs, and i’d have to split it in two.

this is honestly a formatting nightmare as a writer, and this is a decision that is liable to drive content creators away from the site and change fandom culture as a whole. 

please. if you enjoy reading content on this site and want to continue enjoying content on this site, please don’t let tumblr make things harder for writers! since the tumblr team is supposedly eager to hear what everyone thinks, it would really help if you could message support and share your concern about the issue–maybe we can stop this disaster before it starts.

josh seriously prides himself on projecting this image of a super chill, approachable, laid back, unbothered dude both as a means to reassure others that he’s Doing Just Fine, Thanks ( even if he most certainly is Not fine ), and as a coping mechanism, a way to almost convince himself, too. 

he wants to be the person people can go to when they need to get their minds off of shit, or if they’re just looking for a good time. he wants to be likeable, and this isn’t exactly hard for him; josh is naturally very charismatic, his warmth isn’t a front, all the shit he projects does come from a genuine place. it becomes a problem, however, because that’s all he lets anyone see - josh shows people just enough so that they think they know him really well, they think that they can read him, when in reality, they’re just scraping the surface. he feeds everyone a very shallow version of himself - it’s funny, almost, because he wants to be someone others can lean on, yet he tries to be 110% self-reliant, which is . . . impossible, that’s how you crash and burn ( and boy, did he fucking burn! )

this, of course, is learned behavior, it’s what works. in all his years of therapy as an adolescent, what he learned was how to hide his symptoms, not how to cope. mental health was never something that was really talked about in the washington household - not for lack of caring! his parents did care! it was more of an issue of them not knowing how to approach it, and how everyone’s got this image to upkeep; it seemed like something they could let the professionals handle, and it’d be alright. based on how he fronts, they don’t have too many reasons to believe that their approach isn’t working.

josh seems to bounce back from things far too quickly, even from some of his lowest points, waving off worry with yeah, shit got bad there for awhile, but ‘s all good now, ‘s getting better. it’s almost like he thinks that if he says it enough, maybe he’ll believe it, too. it’s not just a way of keeping others from worrying, but a way to shut everything out and ignore it.

yes, alright, you tell your jokes and do your bits. you break awkward silences and sing silly songs. but what about when you're not keeping the levity? what else makes up the person who makes others feel good? you're kind. you connect with people. you hate to see others sad. you have a vice or two-- who doesn't --but the point is, you are the epitome of what it is to be human, and you are able to encompass the absolutely zany improbability of life as we know it. people are comforted by you. they cherish your spirit and relate to you. but it can be difficult when you're not laughing. comedy becomes a wall to keep worse feelings out, or in. a person who feels any emotion to the extreme will undoubtedly feel others the same way. laughing is great, but... perhaps a big reason you appreciate your family is because there's something you can't stand in a silence.
