I’m very proud to have presented work from my two latest series, Parakeet Lost and We Try To Fix What We’ve Broken, tonight at the opening of my senior exhibition as a BFA painting and illustration student.
And here’s my big announcement: also on display was a full book that I wrote and illustrated over the past six months (remember when I said there was a reason I was posting less often? meet the reason!). Grasping at Feathers explores the relationship between art and lost birds, through the stories of the people who painted them. I’ll be sharing more about this project in the future—stay tuned!
You’re placed in a room with an animal. The door is closed and you cannot leave. The animal is completely calm and has no intent of harming you. You are in no danger unless you provoke the animal in some way.
For probably two hours of their lives this stair was the perfect size for two little borzoi babies to split down the middle. I happened to be there during these two hours and was able to capture it forever.
I gotta say, the Lord of the Rings movies add a lot of humor that wasn’t in the books. Some of it is welcome, some is less so. But I was surprised upon rereading the books to find that the movies left out by far the funniest scene, and that it features neither Pippin nor Gimli, who get the Comedic Relief treatment in the films.
Very unfortunate news, one of our foxes seems to have sadly contracted mange.
If you are unaware, mange is a skin disease caused by mites burrowing into the skin and laying eggs, and the life cycle repeating. It causes hair loss (which can be seen on the tail, face, and legs), extreme scabbing to the skin (which you can see on the face). In later stages it can cause complete hair loss, abnormal behavior such as lethargy and being active during times they normally wouldn't.
Mange can technically be treated, though it is difficult. The main way is through oral or injectable anti-parasitic drugs. The problem is catching the animal before the disease gets too far along.
It's also important to note:
humans and pets can contract certain types of mange, though it is easily treated with anti-parasitics since you have the subject of the disease with you.
Mange is very contagious, usually through direct contact, but also from something like an animal wandering into the affected animals den. The mites can live off the original host for up to a week, letting them find a new host.
If you suspect an animal has mange call your local wildlife center, or the equivalent to where you live. It's very important to stop the spread before it gets out of hand and affects other species.
Dreamt of a tall husky butch that cuddled, kissed and sweet-talked me while I was having nightmares and said "this will help you" before grabbing my head by both sides and forcefully waking me up. I think that might've been a guardian angel or perhaps god
if you hate some type of animal because it “serves no purpose” or “doesn’t have the same emotional/mental capacity as humans/dogs/cats” i need you to set yourself on fire for me ok
So in the latest "ban books!" controversy there's a picture book for pre-schoolers called "Grandad's Pride" the objection is that some of the illustrations of Pride involve men in leather
and I could go on and on about how yes that is in fact something you might see at Pride out in public so why would you not include it but.....
here's an unrelated image of popular children's cartoon character He-Man in a Harness (and fury underpants) if its only a problem when gay men do it, thats homophobia...
Everytime a cis women tries to argue against gender neutral language in medical settings it becomes very clear they care more about their comfort then trans men being denied medical care and dying.
I don’t care how ‘uncomfortable’ the terms person with a uterus, person who can give birth, person with breasts, etc. makes you. I very much care more about trans men having access to medical care than a cis person’s feelings.
i wish superpowers were real because then you'd get people making posts like "some people need to get real hobbies and stop making identical illusionary clones of themselves that your fist passes through like smoke when you go to punch them :/" and know exactly who the OP was talking about
