The other funny thing about this whole process, is that the prototype collage and this envelope were actually lost in the mail. They never arrived to Julia. It was kind of fitting for the whole project: we are both kind of obsessed with ephemerality, both natural and human. So how fitting that the letter and the collage that prompted the project was also an ephemeral creation.

This is a bit of a special one.
I was lucky enough to work with a photographer here in Tempe who I collaborated with for a class about mixed media. We have largely overlapped thematic interests in our work, that deal a lot with the patterns of nature, the concept of ephemerality, and enmeshment of body with nature. But we struggled to get time on our side over the year. Finally, the summer came along, and we decided to embrace our own slowness and send snail mail, since it's something that I can turn to and feel joy, rather than email which can come with this minor sense of dread.
She was in Colorado at the time, and she sent me a stack of prints from this gorgeous forest out there. I scanned both her photos and our letters and created this little collage and collage poem from the words. She loved the creation and it served as a prototype for a larger project. As we geared up to be a part of an exhibition in fall, created 4 total collage prints using gorgeous archival paper and our own words. It was by far the most collaborative thing I have done, and I was very proud of the work we put together, and the success of the show.
We plan to keep creating together, and I'm excited to see where it takes us.
