happy STS!! a slightly grimmer one today - what can make you abandon a project? do you ever truly abandon projects or do you just shelve them for later?

Hiya there!! Sometimes, losing passion for the story makes me abandon it. Sometimes, I just don't feel like it's a story that fits me and style, so I put it aside unless I can find a way to fit it into my writing style, changing the genre or characters. I have abandoned projects before but I try not to. I like to finish them to improve my writing and such.

What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?

An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:

I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.

Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.

A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)

So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.

Not the type of post I usually do but my cat deserves a space everywhere I can give him.

Today, I lost an 18 year-old cat. He's been with me for over half of my life. He's been sick for the past 5 months and we've been taking care of him as best as we can. I'm so thankful to have had all these years with him and for him to have waited until I was home to go. He loved us until his very last second, just as I'll love him until my last living second.

Thank you, João, for loving us as much as you did. I hope we loved you the same and I know we did our best to.

okay i’m curious bc my parents were relatively young having me but idk what age difference is “normal” between parents and kids as i’ve met people with plenty of variations. so if you want, reblog this and tag (don’t comment) how old your parents were when they had you. my mom was 25 and my dad was 21.
