Working at a Halfway House Pt.1

I have tried to write something several times, but keep erasing it. I don't even know where to start. Outside of, this was the best, and worst, experience of my life. Working here was where I met my husband, was where my life was threatened, was where I saw someone getting stabbed on the street, where I made some of the most unique connections, memories, fell in love with those I served, but fell out of love with non-profits, created more firm boundaries for myself, and watch as others bulldozed right over them.

Watched staff have inappropriate relationships with each other/the youth, and watched some of the youth have the healthiest relationships with staff that they've experienced, and may possible ever experience.

Watched kids run away, some go to jail, some graduate from the program and do their best to figure out the rest of life, and some I've never heard from again.

It was a place where they did not set up adequate boundaries or training with the staff, so it was confusing, personal, my life, but still social services.

I thought I was too broken to see pure love and understand what it was. So I questioned if I’d ever really know. Maybe I’ll always feel like something is off and wrong in my relationships. Maybe I was the problem.

And then I met you and immediately thought… I could see myself spending the rest of my life with this person. Is this what knowing feels like?

Every day I’ve gotten to know you more is another day I’ve fallen in deeper amazement that a human like you exists. So complimentary to my soul as I am yours.

Corn Moon Rising : A rising moon can be a dramatic sight. A rising Full Corn Moon was captured early this month in time-lapse with a telephoto lens from nearly 30 kilometers away – making Earth’s ascending half-degree companion appear unusually impressive. The image was captured from Portugal, although much of the foreground – including lights from the village of Puebla de Guzmán – is in Spain. A Full Corn Moon is the name attributed to a full moon at this time of year by cultures of some northern indigenous peoples of the Americas, as it coincides with the ripening of corn. Note that the Moon does not appear larger when it is nearer the horizon – its seemingly larger size there is only an illusion. The next full moon – occurring at the beginning of next month – will be known as the Full Harvest Moon as it occurs nearest in time to the northern autumnal equinox and the northern field harvests. via NASA

In another universe, I know we are together.

We met and bonded so quickly. You felt like a puzzle created by the same artist as mine. But a few months later it ended so quickly after I said what I needed in my life and you said you still need to find yourself...

You keep running through my mind.

I can't stop thinking about you.

The night you told me your secrets, while I cuddled you and caressed you.

When you introduced me to new ways of adventuring with a partner's body and my own.

Dancing with you and feeling like you were the only other person in the world each time.

Listening to you play guitar and sing to the atmosphere around you.

My heart was near the cliff, waiting for a final gust to push me over into the lake of love. But now I'll never know.

You have no idea how much I want to explore the possibilities of being with you when both of us are stable, in places to date, and ready to commit. I hope it happens.

I'm scared you'll be that one guy in the back of my head while I'm at the front of the alter. Wondering if maybe, we missed something beautiful.
