Freedom Planet 2 Review (PlayStation 5)
Tumblr media
Freedom Planet 2 Review, The fast-paced platforming of Freedom Planet returns! Become a full-time cartoon heroine and use abilities and items suited to your play style to explore the world of Avalice and defend its animal citizens!
Freedom Planet 2 Review Pros:
- Decent graphics. - 1.10GB download size. - Platinum trophy. - You get the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 versions of the game. - Action platformer gameplay. - Can remap controls. - Screen settings - filter, auto-zoom, active guide, and text animation. - Assist settings - auto guard, no knockback, free revivals, and cheaper continues. - Own in-game achievements called badges. - The gallery shows unlocked cutscenes and photo albums, and you earn badges. - Ten save slots. - Four characters - Lilac, Carol, Milla, and Neera. Each has unique abilities. - Three difficulties - Beginner, normal, and expert. These effects damage dealt and received, additional items, and continued costs. - Optional opening tutorial. - Every character has a basic attack and an ability which all have different attacks depending on the direction pressed as you attack. - 2D platformer. - Plays like a Sonic game with its speed, the way you run up and around walls, etc. - Great group of characters. - The levels are massive and have so many layers and routes to them. - End of level breakdown with overall rank. - Constant checkpoints. - Levels are timed. - World map level select. - Really well-designed levels with little set pieces and sequences scattered throughout them. - Can replay levels. - Very fast-paced action. - Parry enemy attacks with the new Guard button but this is optional. - A lot going on from explosions to animations and levels breaking up to show more routes or set pieces. - Cutscenes are a mix of in-game sequences and character portrait interactions. - Levels have big boss fights at the end. - Potions can be collected and equipped to add new abilities or upgrade your lives, shields, etc. - Honestly plays and feels like a retro game but with modern gimmicks and mechanics. - No matter the difficulty you can use items to change and adjust the game in many ways but you do get more loot and rewards. Freedom Planet 2 Review Cons: - Very Sonic the Hedgehog in many ways. - Feels more like a speed runner/race game with occasional combat. - The levels are so big and open that you can get lost or sidetracked. - Boss fights are not that difficult and are quite basic. - Tha game does take some time to show all its offerings. - The speed can be too much at times. Dragon's Dogma 2 Review (PlayStation 5)
Tumblr media
Dragon's Dogma 2 Review, is a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG that challenges the players to choose their own experience – from the appearance of their Arisen, their vocation, their party, how to approach different situations, and more - in a truly immersive fantasy world. On your journey, you’ll be joined by Pawns, mysterious otherworldly beings, in an adventure so unique you will feel as if accompanied by other players while on your adventure.
Dragon's Dogma 2 Review Pros:
- Gorgeous graphics. - 64.44GB Download size. - Platinum trophy. - Action RPG gameplay. - Tutorials will pop up as you play and the game's opening Prologue is a huge tutorial within itself. - Free character creator app. (you can still use the creator in the game) no matter what the creator is one of the most in-depth ones I have ever seen. - Character choice - preset or created. - Four character vocations - Fighter, Archer, Mage, And Thief. - A full 3D world with 360-degree camera control. - Opening and ongoing tutorial pop-ups as you play. - Pawns are a unique part of the game where you can hire and summon other player pawns to fight alongside you they have their own traits and mannerisms but you can still give them equipment. - Unlock fast travel points with portcrystals that are always in town but you can carry up to ten with you to the place where you want. - The map unfolds as you explore. - Any points of interest or treasure will be marked on the map. - Main story quests along with optional side quests and tasks with full task management. - Buy and sell items and equipment with vendors, it will show who in your current party can equip certain items. - Combat is free form and can happen at any time. - Harvest materials from the world like flowers etc. - Play how you want. - Interactions with characters will determine what you can and cannot do with them and form different branching interactions. - Time plays a big part, tasks and quests are plentiful but do have time limits and time restrictions so you can't just pick them all up and do them, it's not possible to have everything done. - You get basic commands for your pawns like stop, follow me, attack, etc. - The world you explore looks beautiful and is full of intrigue and jaw-dropping vistas. - You can skip cutscenes and fast-forward character interactions. - Earn exp and level up to increase stats and get new abilities. - Save when you want. - Sleep at inns to regain all health and trigger a checkpoint. - Camping can be done with a camping kit and an old disused fire while camping you regain health and stamina, you can cook meat and earn boosts, and you can get ambushed when camping so it's cool you have to clear out the area first if you want. - Pawns can harvest materials, and give advice or pointers to your quests. - Earned exp shows up on the screen. - You can loot bodies. - Pawn quests are set by the owner (you) and the person taking your pawn must complete the task for unique rewards and pawn badges within the game. - Full photo mode integration. - Your pawns level up independently to you, and other pawns. - I love how at any point you can get ambushed by enemies or feel the ground shake as an orge or troll just walks in. - Even when killed you have a small window to pause the game and use an item to keep you alive. - The whole passage of time mechanic means people and items won't be in the same place every day and broken bridges and structures can be rebuilt over time. - Some Haptic Feedback. - The Maisters teaching is when you get a high rank with a vocation and get a tomb to unlock a powerful new skill. - All interactions are voiced. - Nighttime is a whole new experience as it's hard to see, ambushes are more likely, etc. - Food can go off and rot. - You can revive pawns within a time limit. - Every piece of equipment and items/gear weighs something and you can become encumbered. - Have pawns carry items for you. - Rift portals are where you can hire and fire pawns but it also acts as a respawn point for your main pawn. - Wolves can grab you and drag you away. - All the elements are style mechanics at play like being on fire, getting wet, etc which amplifies other abilities. - Big huge monsters like Cyclops and trolls can be climbed on, downed, and grabbed to move them around. - Seekers tokens are hidden collectibles around the world and give out unique rewards when you hit Milestones with them. - Central storage can be accessed from inns and homes, food stores within it won't go off or rot. - Upgrade, craft, and enhance equipment at blacksmiths with materials and gold. - Specialization is where you can have your pawns act even more independently which is both good and bad. You have control over which specialization they learn as they can only have one. - Hairdressers will let you change your appearance, hairstyle, etc for a cost. - People will come up to you at random times and will know some of the things you've done or the choices you've made. - Golden trove beetles can be found and these increase your weight capacity. - Ox carts act like taxis and can cart you around for a fee. It can still be ambushed even when dozing off. - When getting pawns from other players they can share information or suggest a route, at this point, you can choose to follow them. - Combat is mental once you get the hang of it and get your mojo and items right. Dragon's Dogma 2 Review Cons: - Horrible amount of microtransactions. - A lot to take in. - Slow starter. - The in-game pause menu is never-ending with its branching options. - The performance is not always flawless with a slowdown and stuttering. - I am not a fan of anything you drop off your character will always go headfirst and try and do the most damage possible to themselves. - It took a long while to feel like I actually got what the game was offering and knew what to do. - Surprisingly the game doesn't offer a diverse stable of enemy types with them all looking the same. - You have to be so precise with regard to the interaction prompt showing. - Pawns repeat themselves a lot and can be very chatty. - Had the game checkpoint as I was dying so I just kept dying over and over and instead had to lose a load of progress to spawn back at an inn. - Had a lot of hard crashes. - Never actually sure when the game was last saved. - Paw conversations can get very grating. - You feel like you are just constantly taking in new mechanics and quests without realizing it. - The game just takes so long to get going so the first handful of hours is tedious combat and long treks across the world. - Enemies constantly respawn back and it makes simple treks a real slog. - Pawns can die so easily especially as the water is instant death. Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator Review (PlayStation 5)
Tumblr media
Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator Review, Climb into the driver's seat of your car and your business, transport passengers across Barcelona, and grow your company! Can you help relieve the transportation challenges of a city that never sleeps?
Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator Review Pros:
- Decent graphics. - 6.71GB download size. - Platinum trophy. - Controller settings - can remap controls, vibration intensity slider, and set controller type. - Character and company creator - name, avatar (four choices), company name, logo (twelve choices), and company colors. - Opening flyover of Barcelona with facts and points of interest shown. - You start by doing a driving school set of tasks. - Voiced narrator. - Four driving views including bumper and out of car behind. - In the car camera lets you look out the side windows, lean forward, and also look over the headrest behind you. - The full damage model is in play. - A radial dial can be used for easy access to menus and when open it slows down time. - A full 3D world with camera control. - After a job, you get a breakdown showing exp earned, cash earned, distance traveled, and a 1 to 5-star rank with a customer patience score. - The map allows you to select any available job. - When jobs and directions are given you get the route on your mini map to help. - The game uses the rules of the road and you earn exp by following it like indicating and braking. - During jobs, you can get Interactive prompts from the passengers. - Landmarks can be seen on the map and visited for bonus exp. - You can get a car wash and even watch it happen in real-time, what a treat. - Petrol stars ions let you manually top up or fill it all the way automatically. - The game offers petrol and electric cars. - Player progression is a series of skill trees you put your skill points into and they are split into - driving, proficiency, maintenance, law obedience, and company. - Garages are where you go to repair your car, customize your taxi, and buy new vehicles. - Full stats screen. - Three difficulties - Easy, normal, and hard. - Gearbox modes - Arcade, semi-arcade, simulation, and simulation and clutch. - Supports steering wheels. - Gameplay settings - acceleration sensitivity slider, braking sensitivity slider, and then both again at low and high speed. - Save and load when you want. - Speed cameras are dotted around and do show on the map. - Breaking any road rules takes money off you. - It's a chilled-out relaxing experience. - Accidents can happen and show on the map. - Bonus street graffiti to find around the world. - You can put your own map markers down. - Level up to get better exp rates including one for having no passengers. - Play how you want. - Day and night cycle. - Customizing your car lets you do the interior color and dashboard items like Bobbleheads and the gearstick nob. - Upgrade parts of your car like transmission type and wet tires etc. - Eventually, you can create and run your own taxi firm. - Great checklist gaming. Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator Review Cons: - Can only pick four male avatars, no female ones, and no way to change or edit them. - Minimal controller settings until you actually get into the game itself. - No graphics settings. - The game encourages you to use your handbrake by having your car constantly moving backward, even in cutscenes and text prompts. - The voiceover sounds like a computer voice. - Driving is fine but it does need time to fit or a few weeks of the sensitivity sliders as out of the box it's all or nothing. - Road rules and all of that stuff only come into play when you have a passenger as it's only enforced by speed cameras and the occasional police seeing you. - The AI is really bad at times like not obeying the rules intentionally ramming you or staying at a green light. - No radio or game music. - The handbrake is ridiculously sensitive. - Hitting the points of interest for exp is not ideal as you have to hold a button down and on a particular angle for it to count. - It's possible to get stuck many times on other cars or the scenery. The only fix I found was to save and quit the game. - The camera shake for crashes is way over the top. - It's not possible to just take a fare, you have to select the customer on the map to trigger the fare. - Takes a while to get going. - Having to always name your save even when overwriting one is a pain. The Outlast Trials Review Cons: - Limited character creator. - Very slow starter. - Loading times are up and down in terms of length. - The game doesn't pause even in solo. - Cannot remap controls. - It takes a lot of time to get used to enemy detection distance. - Learning new trials is difficult as you are not always sure what or who you are after. - You cannot tone down any of the blood or Gore. - Early days the game is frustrating especially if you never played the first game. Match Village Review Cons: - No tutorial. - Cannot rebind controls. - Takes a little while to get used to what the game wants of you. - The game doesn't mix it up a lot. - No help or guidance as to how the scoring and mechanics work. STAR WARS Battlefront Classic Collection Review Cons: - The camera in Battlefront 1 is all over the place it's loose and not snappy in any way, even against the second game. - For a game like this, the file size is ridiculously huge. - The control layouts are not the same for both games. - The story campaigns are not that balanced and have a lot of can't miss a single shot ai enemies. - Struggling to get any games online, it either doesn't find games or it has high ping and kicks me out. - Still has a horrible spawn camping problem. - The controls are fine but at times it feels like they don't work for a second here and there. - Online is not the best in terms of performance. - No real enhancements or tweaks its very much just an HD filter with servers. - Waiting to respawn is an assault on your eyes with the camera going all over the place. - Lag is an absolute killer. - Steam achievements are not popping up until I shut the game down. - respawn numbers seem low for the game modes and maps on offer. - Have had actual unbeatable levels in the campaign as the AI is so efficient at doing objectives except your team AI, they go off randomly and I've had them just standing at spawn. Violet Wisteria Review (PlayStation 5)
Tumblr media
Violet Wisteria Review, Return to the style of Japanese fantasy platformers from the ’80s and ’90s as you take command of brave heroine Wisteria Asagiri on her quest to save Earth, the Higher Realm, and the Under-Realms from the dark wizard Maskandes! Violet Wisteria is a side-scrolling action platformer with a unique tri-color attack system. Requiring quick judgment and precision, this system allows Wisteria to execute sword slashes and thrusts based on an enemy’s color, where only the correct attack will strike true.
Violet Wisteria Review Pros:
- Nice graphics. - 159.7MB download size. - Platinum trophy. - You get the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 versions of the game. - Three difficulties - practice, Hyper easy, and ultra hard. - Color hints - on/off. - Three control type choices - direction, shoulder, and face. - In-game still screen cutscenes. - 2D action-platformer gameplay. - The gimmick is you have three attacks that each have a color, enemies are set colors so you have to do an attack not matching them. - Match colors with an enemy to get a bounce-off move to help cross gaps. - Hud shows time, score and when pressing a button will show the color assigned. - Magic can be used for attacks but it decreases your level timer. - Nice soundtrack. - The pause screen shows the colors. - Item boxes to break for life or items. - Uses a life bar system. Violet Wisteria Review Cons: - A lot to remember and you always forget when it's needed. - The platforming is fine until you have to do the bounce-off enemies. - Frustrating platform sections. - Has a big knockback on taken damage. - Parts of the level require you to die to get an enemy to spawn. Cybertrash STATYX Review (PlayStation 4)
Tumblr media
Cybertrash STATYX Review, a 2D action platformer with elements of a tactical. Destroy enemies, gain experience points, upgrade your character, and immerse yourself in the story through in-game dialogues. Move deep into the levels, eliminating numerous ordinary robots, powerful cyborgs, killer machines, and bosses. Use the tactical element of firefights, the environment, and the abilities of the character. You will be accompanied by light and heavy types of weapons with different statistics and principles of action.
Cybertrash STATYX Review Pros:
- Nice pixel art graphics. - 350.9MB download size. - Platinum trophy. - Works on Playstation 5. - 2D action-platformer gameplay. - Opening tutorial level. - In-game cutscenes and character interactions. - Three difficulties - Easy, normal, and hard. - Directional shooting. - You can do big jumps by sliding and then jumping. - Button prompts show on the screen. - Uses a health bar and shield system. - Hack chests to get loot. - You can carry and hotswap between light and heavy weapons. - Destructible elements within the levels. - Uses a lot of cover-based shooting. - Can see enemy health bars and if they are alerted. - Checkpoints are every time you enter a new room and this acts as your respawn point. - Break boxes to get credits. - Pick up health and shield bubbles. - Earn exp and level up to get points to upgrade your stats - agility, shooting, luck, mining, and hacking back in the hub between stages and sometimes within a level. - The jumping and shooting are fine. - Stages are quite open with a lot of choices for how and where you go in it. - Weapons have X amount of ammo and when it's all gone you drop the weapon. - You can see your level-up bar and current rank. - Clear easy to read ui. - Big boss battles and you see their health. - Buy ammo and health/shields with your credits. - You can go forward and backward on a level. - The camera can be panned around just enough so you can see enemies and platforms. - Easy Platinum trophy. Cybertrash STATYX Review Cons: - No voice work just loads of text. - Can't set conversations to auto-scroll. - A real slow starter. - Cannot remap controls. - It's hard not to take damage from every encounter. - The controls for sliding and Jump make simple tasks trickier. - The slide jump sections in platforming are tedious. - The pacing is all over the place. - When you are in the hub area it's just slow text-based story segments and you can only walk. - You never really know what weapon you picked up. - Levels all seem to be in the same format and it's very repetitive. - A lot of guns you use can kill you. - Boss fights are very underwhelming. - Hard to make out enemy bombs. Contra: Operation Galuga Review (Steam)
Tumblr media
Contra: Operation Galuga Review, When the Red Falcon terrorist group takes over the Galuga Islands off the coast of New Zealand, elite Contra commandos Bill Rizer and Lance Bean spring into action, initiating an all-out war in which the fate of mankind hangs in the balance!
Contra: Operation Galuga Review Pros:
- Decent graphics. - 7.5GB Download size. - Steam achievements. - Full controller support. - Graphics settings - resolution. - Supports up to four-player co-op. - Firing setting - 8 directional or full 360 directional firing. - Run and Gun gameplay. - Perks allow you to add two to your character before a stage and they are things like extra health or keeping your gun upon death.  - In the game, you can have two weapons equipped at one time and can instantly hotswap between them. Picking up the same weapon again improves the gun and shows an II symbol. - Weapons are as you would expect, spread guns, flame throwers and homing missiles, and so on but here you can sacrifice the gun and do a shared shit that does a special attack, each gun does something else. - Characters you have the two original characters Bill and Lance but in a cool addition you get the Probotector robots who are the characters you play in the Probotector game which is the UK version of the NES game. Probotectors can hover and fly around for a short time and mix up the game.  - Unlock new characters as you play through story mode and it unlocks them for that and arcade mode. - Weapons are as you would expect, spread guns, flame throwers homing missiles, and so on but here you can sacrifice the gun and do a special unique that does a special attack, each gun does something else. - The voice-over narration is kinda cheesy and not that great but it does set the scene that the game is not as serious as the original. - Bonus unlocks - demo save gives you some credits and the Contra 4 and Contra 8 Bit OST, if you have a Castlevania collection save you get a Castlevania 8 Bit OST, All soundtracks can be listened to during arcade play. - Arcade mode is just story mode but with the cutscenes and character interactions cut out. - Can remap the buttons for the controller. - The shop is where you can buy perks to equip them and they are filtered into available, affordable, purchased, all perks, player, and global. - Once you beat a mission in story mode it stays completed so you don't have to finish the game in one sitting. - Challenge mode has set objectives and fail - state objectives. You can set the soundtrack and you see your best and par time. - Story mode has three difficulties (Easy/normal/hard), and danger level (one hit kill or health bar). - Earn credits in story mode based on performance and get bonus credits for finishing levels with other characters. - 2D perspective with an animated 3D backdrop. - Opening tutorial text pop-ups. - Capsules fly across the screen and shooting it drops a new gun. - As standard, you lose the currently equipped weapon upon a life loss. - When ducking in shallow water you go underwater and the music changes to a muffled version. - Excellent animations. - Fast-paced good old action fun. - In-game cutscenes and character interactions. - End-of-level breakdown of performance and time taken. - 3 save slots in story mode. - World map level selected in story mode allowing you to replay levels. - Lose all your lives and you have to restart the level. - All new 3D-implemented changes to enemies and boss spawns and actions make it feel a lot more immersive and destructive. - Kill enemies and fill the bonus capsule under your health bar, once full press a button at any time to make a capsule appear. - Score enough points to earn extra lives. - Clever new boss battles. - Some characters change how guns work, for example, Lucia changes the spread gun into a wave shot that can be charged for a bigger wave. - The gimmick of overpowering your weapon is key to victory as it can give you huge advantages like shields or barriers. - Has vehicle sections. - Some of the levels have multiple routes to them. - 8 stages to unlock and play. - Has a cool end-of-credits sequence. - Unlock the ability to buy characters from previous games, and new soundtracks including a Konami 8 Bit classic megamix. - Has replay value as you don't unlock and see everything in one playthrough. Contra: Operation Galuga Review Cons: - No actual graphics settings. - The text pop-ups can get in the way of the action. - So much is going on it can be hard to make things out. - Vehicle-based shooting is stressful as you aim where you are moving. - The biggest obstacle is avoiding picking up weapons you don't want. - You have to re-learn what all the weapons are and do. - Unlocking credits takes a while. - When weapons drop in water you can't see them at all. - Bullet sponge boss battles. - The story is not the strongest. Unables Review (PlayStation 4)
Tumblr media
Unables Review, UNABLES is all about physics, puzzles, and comedy. Welcome to a world spoiled by extreme laziness, where characters are so lazy that even the player is unable to control them. Take matters into your own hands by controlling the environment instead, with our innovative gameplay mechanics.
Unables Review Pros:
- Decent graphics. - 1.41GB download. - Platinum trophy. - Works on Playstation 5. - Motion sensor support. - Optional tutorial. - Action shaker gameplay. - Old school Windows-style interface. - The game involves rotating and moving around a room with a guy in it, your goal is to hit all the marked items and go out the door. - Two difficulties - Easy (no timer and no rewards), and hard (timer, progress, and rewards). - Earn stars based on your performance and unlock more stages. - Very accessible and quick to pick up. - The center camera angle lets you see from a set perspective. - A lot of big bright locations. - Your character will narrate and say one-liners. - Big dumb fun. - You unlock a chunk of stages at one time so you can kind of jump between them in your own order. - Before each stage, you can select the difficulty. - A nice palette cleanser of a game. Unables Review Cons: - The trophy text is all in a different language. - No real game or controller settings. - Any precise movement is not going to happen. - Small tight spaces make the game not fun at all. - Half the time you are just spinning the level hoping it all works out. - A lot of the time you are just looking at the ground under the building. - The center camera is basically pointless. - More luck than skill. Shiren the Wanderer The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island Review (Nintendo Switch OLED)
Tumblr media
Shiren the Wanderer The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island Review, After receiving a vision of a mysterious girl held captive by a terrible monster, Shiren and Koppa make their way to Serpentcoil Island—a distant isle rumored to be the lost stronghold of treasure-hoarding pirates. Determined to rescue the girl and find the treasure, the two race into danger… only to be soundly defeated, like all the others who tried before. Undeterred, Shiren and Koppa vow to challenge the monster again to save the mysterious girl.
Shiren the Wanderer The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island Review Pros:
- Decent graphics. - 1.5GB download size. - Five save slots. - Roguelike gameplay. - Tutorial pop-ups as you play the game. - You can set up controller shortcuts. - Grid-based locations can be turned on and off. - Can remap controls. - Internet functions are an option. - Can skip and fast-forward cutscenes and interactions. - Decent loading times. - Set camera angle. - Third-person view. - A great group of characters with a couple of stand-out memorable ones. - Beautiful art and drawings in the game. - It really is a good-looking game. - A dungeon location has multiple sections. - A world map that fills in as you explore and play. - A destination has a cool mechanic where you can view the completion level of the selected destination and you can see info on other online players. - Enchanting soundtrack. - Mystery dungeons are randomized on every run. - Enemies move one step everytime you take one step. - In-depth how-to-play manual broken down into parts. - Dungeon mini maps uncover as you move around. - It's scary looking but the menus and Hud are very easy to read and understand. - End of run/life breakdown. - The adventure log is what fills in enemies and items encountered. - After dying you go back to your house and lose all accumulated items and coins. - You make progress even if you fail over and over. - Shukuba Beach is your village where you live and you can unlock new items and talk with people. - Turn-based combat. - A really cool level-up sound plays. - Full running commentary (text-based) of your actions and this can be reread at any time. - Earn exp and level up to heal and get start increases. - Unidentified items can be found, you have to get an identification scroll or pot. - Easy to use inventory system. - Fullness is the only real thing you need to keep an eye on outside of HP. You get hungry as you move around and eating will refill it and once full it can slowly heal you. - It is possible to farm in areas and level up a ton. - The game gets very moreish and just eats time. - Buy and sell items at markets and vendors. - A cool thing is you can still wear and use unidentified objects and maybe they work and maybe they are cursed and are stuck on you until you identify it. - Blacksmiths will let you upgrade equipment for a cost. - The adventure log has an almost Pokedex feel and look about it. - Your level is only valid in the current dungeon and resets after leaving/dying. - The monster dojo is where you can go and try out scenarios by placing enemies and traps, it's like a training sandbox. - Warehouse - find them in dungeons or use warehouse pots to store items in the warehouse. Anything in the warehouse is safe until you take it out and die. - Encounter other wanderers in a dungeon to trade items. Shiren the Wanderer The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island Review Cons: - Very story-heavy at the start from cutscenes to interactions and text. - Cannot skip all text and cutscenes. - A lot to take in. - No real voice work. - Tutorial pop ups are not always well timed. - Takes a little bit of failed runs to get into it all. - The dungeon timer doesn't seem to stop as you have no actual pause button. - Maps are not always easy to read. - The game does take a while to feel like you are making progress. - More for early on but traps are invisible and hitting them is so random and annoying. - The game doesn't do an amazing job of describing the full extent and features of the completion mechanics. Gear choice affects petrol consumption and how you interact with the terrain. - Tyre pressure can be changed on the fly, which affects petrol consumption but gives more or less grip. - Full damage model and you have a repairs shortcut to quickly repair parts like engine, tyre, drive train, etc. - Full 3D World with 360-degree camera control. - Offer both first and third-person views. - Three regions - Little Colorado, Arizona, and the Carpathians. (they unlock after the tutorial) - Find airdrops and trade inventory with your available space. - Jobs can range from scouting an area out to rescuing stuck trucks and checking seismic vibrations and much more. - Each vehicle has a rating for PWR, strength, and fuel consumption along with the usual different lock choices, recovery cost, compatible devices, and fuel tank size and liveries. - Massive open world areas. - Fully customize your vehicles from cosmetics to new wheels, gearboxes, engines, etc. - You have a team and sometimes you have to take a particular team with you. These guys get hired and unlocked along with unique buffs for your equipment. - Six types of team members - mechanics, logisticians, hydrologists, Jaegers, Operators, and managers. - Adjusting things like tire pressure will temporarily change the stats of your vehicle so letting down tires on a certain terrain will improve the grip stat. - Find optional tasks and missions for unique rewards. - Three types of vehicles - scout (small vehicles usually cars and used to check out areas), Off-road (big rig-style multi-wheeled behemoths that can scale mountains and carry huge loads), and Heavy vehicles (carry the biggest loads and require tons of upgrades to just function). - The Codex houses all the info and the game manual available from the pause menu. - Clear checkpointing in missions, newly discovered points of interest fill in and show icons when discovered. - Hills are like puzzles and you have to work it out. - Binoculars are key to scanning areas and getting new icons marked on the map, plus it's really good for looking at possible routes. - Visual searches and inspections trigger a time-based mini-game. Expeditions: A MudRunner Game Review Cons: - Outside of the opening tutorial, the rest of it is bad as it doesn't help guide you through the menus and procedures and you could do with that. - A lot of shortcuts to remember for all the gadgets and tools. - It feels like you take damage way too easy. - The camera is not always ideal to help with judgment calls and is a nightmare in any wooded area. - The music is almost nonexistent and you don't seem to have a radio. - Cannot remap the controller buttons. - The whole game doesn't feel connected, it is just a checklist of events and missions, and it all feels self-contained. - Takes a lot of getting used to what you can and cannot climb and drive over. - Hitting any obstacle whether it's a terrain or hill climb scenario, it all comes down to just cycling through the same loop of tools to try and it becomes more a rhythm than feeling like an achievement of brains. - Trees just feel invincible, Only small shrub-looking trees actually react to your weight in a winch situation.
