“I have to tell you something.”
“Can it wait? I’m busy.”
“It’s urgent.”
“Okay, fine. What’s so important that you had to interrupt me?”
“I’ve been shot.”
“Why didn’t you lead with that?”

Writing Prompt #2524
"You're going to have to say goodbye. It's almost the end."
"But...but I love everyone so much! I can't leave them."
"You don't get a choice—so you can say goodbye, or you can just disappear."

so I know this blog has sort of died. I had the best intentions, but my writing juice has sorta dried up for the moment. turns out getting my emotional storytelling vision into reality is more fun at the moment on tiktok. I do hope to come back here and write, to pick back up my projects, drafts, and all that, but for now, this is only weighing on my mind. I will see you all when I see you. I'll be around, just not writing. I need to let myself not be writing for a bit. then maybe I'll find enjoyment in it again.

* cult leader x devoted follower
* crime ring leader x guy he’s blackmailing

Whumper was interrogated while caretaker watched from beyond the glass. Whumper gleefully spoke about everyone they tortured, recalling in great detail. Whumpee in particular was a prominent subject; they seemed to be whumpers favorite.
Each word ate at caretaker; whatever whumper spoke of, caretaker imagined a worse thing to do as revenge.
The interrogator comes back and caretaker demands "just 5 minutes alone" through fuming tears. The interrogator notes caretakers hands in fists, their body shaking with anger, their eyes pure hatred.
"No." They gently shake their head.
"Why." Caretaker spat.
"Because I know what you can do in 5 minutes and I need them alive."

"You know, if you're not going to talk," - he takes the prisoner's injured hand in his own, fingers brushing over broken bones - "and you're not going to make this fun for me anymore," - he lightly taps his fingers against the breaks - "then I don't really have much use left for you, do I?"
Silence.
"Really, are we done here? Should I just lock you up for good and leave you to rot?"
Tap. Tap. Tap.
A voiceless breath of a whimper.
"That's it? Not even gonna scream for me?" He frowns, loosely wrapping his fingers around the broken hand. "C'mon. Is there any fight left in you?"
Without warning, he tightens his grip and twists.
The room echoes with the almost silent scream of an overstrained voice. Gasping for breath, eyes unfocused, weakly, uselessly attempting to pull away, the prisoner manages to breathe out two words.
"Ff-fuck…. you."
"Ah," the man smiles. "There you are."

can we take a moment to just think about how incredibly scary magical healing is in-context?
You get your insides ripped open but your friend waves his hands and your flesh just pulls back together, agony and evisceration pulling back to a ‘kinda hurts’ level of pain and you’re physically whole, with the 100% expectation that you’ll get back up and keep fighting whatever it was that struck you down the first time.
You break your arm after falling somewhere and after you’re healed instead of looking for ‘another way around’ everybody just looks at you and goes “okay try again”.
You’ve been fighting for hours, you’re hungry, thirsty, bleeding, crying from exhaustion, and a hand-wave happens and only two of those things go away. you’re still hungry, you’re still weak from thirst, but the handwave means you have ‘no excuse’ to stop.
You act out aggressively maybe punch a wall or gnash your teeth or hit your head on something and it’s hand-waved because it’s ‘such a small injury you probably can’t even feel it anymore’ but the point was that you felt it at all?
Your pain literally means nothing because as long as you’re not bleeding you’re not injured, right? Here drink this potion and who cares about the emotional exhaustion of that butchered village, why are you so reserved in camp don’t you think it’s fun retelling that time you fell through a burning building and with a hand-wave you got back up again and ran out with those two kids and their dog?
Older warriors who get a shiver around magic-users not because of the whole ‘fireball’ thing but the ‘I don’t know what a normal pain tolerance is anymore’ effect of too much healing. Permanent paralysis and loss of sensation in limbs is pretty much a given in the later years of any fighter’s life. Did I have a stroke or did the mage just heal too hard and now this side of my face doesn’t work? No i’m not dead from the dragon’s claws but I can’t even bend my torso anymore because of how the scar tissue grew out of me like a vine.
Magical healing is great and keeps casualties down.
But man.
That stuff is scary.

Unlikely! In three years I hope to be embarking on a career of being shot at for a living! Thank you though!
To whom it may concern:
I hope your era of "disappointed, but not surprised" will soon come to a close, and for it to be replaced with a long span of "surprised, but not disappointed."

that moment when a character is severely outmatched in a fight and they're on their knees looking up dazedly at their opponent, who only hits them harder

My favorite trope is characters who don’t know what it’s like to be treated nicely, and how they react when they meet kind/decent/non-asshole people.
-the look of surprise when someone brings them a cup of tea, unasked for, just saying they thought they would enjoy it.
-breaking a glass on accident and panicking, expecting terrible, terrible things, but a caretaker just bumbles over with a broom, pulling on a pair of slippers and telling them not to move, not to step on anything.
-being given an unexpected hug, and stiffening, then melting into it.
-relaxing slowly, until one day they’re surprised at how comfortable they are with these new people.
-latching onto the roughest, meanest of the bunch, because that’s who they were familiar with, and the gruff, tough, scary person ending up softening up to them.
-always waiting for the other shoe to drop, even though it doesn’t.
-when someone says good morning to them first, and it startled them because they’re used to being ignored at best.

Writing Prompt #2394
"You're going to die as nothing. Forgotten in an instant, with no impact on the world."
"Better to die nothing than to die hated. Sorry that I won't see the day the world spits on your grave."

i want to take a stoic whumpee in my hands, dig my fingers into their cold outer shell, and crack them open. i want to see all those emotions underneath their skin. i want to see how much force it takes to break them. i want to see them completely, utterly, destroyed.

The battle was over, but somehow, you survived. As you stare into the heavens, it occurs to you… You remember dying. And from the look of the battlefield, considerable time has passed…
