This snake morph guide is just meant to explain some basics of morphs. I would caution anyone in buying a pet that takes a high level of care just because it's pretty, and frankly any breeder that continues to breed morphs with physiological and neurological defects should be put out of business. I did my best as I find this interesting and believe there's a lot of misinformation out there due to people trying to literally sell things to their audience.

I included some links if you would like additional reading. They range from a study on captive care management, studies I could find relevant to the severe issue morphs, and some general on snake color and scales.

For those of you non-reptile folks out there (or the reptile folks who haven't heard/don't know yet)- "Prehistoric Pets"/"The Reptile Zoo" is one of the worst faces of captive reptile keeping. Jay Brewer, the guy that runs it and faces it on youtube, is basically running the equivalent of a reptile puppy mill, and sensationalizing it for views.

He keeps his animals in enclosures that are far too small for them, participates in mass breeding without care for the health or well-being of the animals involved, including creating morbidly obsese animals to have the "biggest" ones for clout and so that he can breed them as fast and often as possible since they don't get too skinny from being bred too often while being massively overfed. He's also well known for cutting eggs (which by itself is.... eh but-) where he removes the entire top, pulling live babies out, and putting them back in, which is ridiculously dangerous to the baby.

This year he's going to be getting his own television show. I don't know the name of it yet, but given his behavior on youtube - where he purposely elicits stress responses, defensive behaviors, and bite attempts from large reptiles purely for views, with no interest in whether these actions are in the interest of the animal's best welfare - I doubt he is going to improve any. The producers are GOING to try to sensationalize it a la Tiger King.

Please, I am asking you to not support this man or his new show. He represents the worst side of the hobby, the people that have no business being in business, no business keeping the animals he does. Don't spite watch, don't curiosity watch; pirate it someplace if you must, but any views that count toward success of his show only puts more into his pockets to continue doing things he shouldn't, and it's his animals (and the animals his popularity convince others to buy thinking they can do the same as him) that pay the price for it.

Please understand that he is NOT a good representative of the reptile keeping community, and that so many people do not find his keeping, handling, or practices acceptable. Despicable would be a better word.

A monstrous turtle emerges from the muck.

Its gigantic.

Look closely - a typically-sized Midwestern turtle sits next to its foot.

It must be close to its size-limit, with a possible 30-inch diameter shell and weighing well in an excess of 100 pounds. Its possible that this beast is 40+ years old.

today's funky frog of the day: darwin's frog (Rhinoderma darwinii)!!!!! these delightfully pointy beings live in chile and argentina. fun fact: the tadpoles of this frog develop in the vocal sac of the male!

Currently fostering this absolutely stunning adult female Rainbow Boa, her name is Ann and she is about 4 years old. As much as I’d love to keep her she is currently looking for a new home, if you are near the Portland OR area feel free to message me!

She is very friendly but she is very eager about food so an experienced handler is preferred. I will not be selling her to anyone who wants to put her in a rack, I’m looking for preferably a 4x2x2 minimum and there is a rehoming fee.

Part of purchasing a baby snake from me is my guaranteed advice and help (where I can). When you live close enough to me, that means I can help further and teach you things in person.  Currently Asriels brother has been on a hunger ‘strike’ for a few months. While some people see this as normal, I do not. I offered to baby sit him for a few weeks, and see if I can get him to eat if he doesn’t eat tonight, no charge. (The owner is new and he was eating for a while, we are unsure what changed and we bounced ideas off each other, to no avail.) The animals I produce mean the world to me, I love seeing updates and if anyone that’s bought from me needs help, I am always happy to help! To me these aren’t just things to sell, these guys are part of my family.  Please never be afraid to reach out for help from me, I don’t judge and all I want to do is help out.

Little Nettle finally passed her dirt check and can have loose substrate.

She was housed 1.1 with a male and was producing eggs like mad when I first got her. She was so depleted of minerals and calcium that as soon as I introduced her to dirt she tried to eat rocks. After a little over a year of uvb and multivitamins she’s curbed the habit and is very happy in her new digs

Iskierka actually might need more sticks 😳

should I supply my western hoggie with climbing? I have a 29 gallon tank so I have some upward space that's not being used, but I'm worried because he's not arboreal he'll fall and hurt himself. so would it be some good enrichment or possibly more dangerous?

Oh i gave mine climbing room and she loves it. Unless your hognose is very small or you dont supply enough bedding to cushion the short drop (hognoses need a lot of bedding anyway so you would hopefully be fine there) hes unlikely to get hurt climbing. Again im so sorry these replies are so late i have no clue when you sent this
