Puerta de San Juan 🦎 Built around 1634, this gate was the main entry into the walled city during its Spanish colonial era. 🦎 The entrance to Old San Juan is known as Puerta de Aguas or Puerta de San Juan (San Juan Gate). It is one of the most colorful and known of all the entrances to the walled city and it has stood tall for centuries. The gate is 16 feet tall and 20 feet thick and leads you to the romantic Paseo La Princesa. Castillo San Cristóbal is a fortress in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was built by the Spanish to protect against land-based attacks on the city of San Juan. It is part of San Juan National Historic Site. Built 1783, Castillo San Cristóbal is the largest fortification built by the Spanish in the New World. When it was finished in 1783, it covered about 27 acres of land and partly encircled the city of San Juan. Entry to the city was sealed by San Cristóbal's double gates. After close to a hundred years of relative peace in the area, part of the fortification (about a third) was demolished in 1897 to help ease the flow of traffic in and out of the walled city. Another great camping ⛺️ trip to the woods. This time we went to Calhoun Falls State Park. Lots of things to do around the area. . We stay at the primitive campsite with Owen’s CubScouts troop and had a lot of fun. No electricity at the primitive site. Bathrooms at walking distance and water on the campsite. With the full moon and cold weather, I didn’t miss electricity, otherwise this would be too primitive for me. . On Saturday we took a drive to Diamond Hill Mine in Abbeville, only 20 minutes away. All the boys had a blast getting muddy while digging for gems 💎 Mostly Quartz, Amethyst and Aquamarine (Pictures to come later, they are soaking at the moment). Well worth it the trip. . We saw a lot of deer 🦌 on site, heard the coyotes hauling in the middle of the night and an owl 🦉 made some beautiful sounds. . Boys kept busy running around and exploring the campsite and fishing.
