Tell us about your favourite decks! How do you select which deck to buy or work with?
Hey!
The Wild Unknown Tarot Deck
Tumblr media
Currently, my favorite deck is The Wild Unknown Tarot Deck by Kim Krans! I was gifted this deck by my mom and immediately resonated with it, mostly because of the dark symbology and dark art style. When I first started working with this deck it was basically like "you're about to be thrown on a roller coaster because I'm already tired of your shit, get it together." Basically, this is my shadow work deck. From how I've worked with it, it's brutally honest, calls you on all your shit, does not care if your feelings are hurt, just wants you to get your shit together and grow. But that all depends on the person. Someone else could have a totally opposite experience with it.
For Beginners
Everyday Tarot Deck by Biddy Tarot
Tumblr media
The first deck I ever really worked with was the Biddy Tarot Mini Deck, the purple one. I love this deck for beginners. The minor cards all have labels on them (versus other decks that only label the courts and majors). Overall it's just very beginner-friendly, plus the business that created the deck has a ton of free resources on their website.
The Rider Tarot
Tumblr media
100% recommend for beginners. Almost every resource website or book that is based on the developers of modern tarot uses this deck as their reference point. It was basically the deck that popularized the modern use of tarot, so I guess it can almost be called the first modern tarot deck. Although the minor cards don't have labels on them, it's still very easy to learn because of all the resources. It introduces beginners to a ton of symbology of colors, items, numbers, etc... 10/10 for all divination, correspondences, symbology.
Pop Culture Decks
Tumblr media
I definitely recommend pop culture themed decks for beginners. Obviously it doesn't have to be this one specifically, but buying a deck that is based on your interests absolutely encourages you to work with the deck more. Since it'll be a deck based on something you're already interested in, you'll already have a decent connection with it. Some think these decks are cringe, and lots of "experienced" readers condemn these because "pop culture witchcraft isn't real", but screw them because I love these. A connection will already be there, they're very easy to learn from if you pull cards and research after, and especially if you're young, you'll love these and will be more inclined to work with them since you're interested in what the cards were modeled after. You can even read them based on what character is on the card. So like in this one specifically, Dean's character is like "the protector," so if you pulled a card with him on it, you already know what it means.
Oracle Decks
Tumblr media
100000% recommend starting with both oracle and tarot decks. I actually started with oracle's when I was about 7 because I loved the art that was on them. Starting with oracle decks gives you an intro on how to read cards, how to shuffle, layouts, and it's a big introduction to using your intuition when interpreting and pulling cards. Plus oracle decks are known for being "love and light, comforting, and soft with your emotions," while tarot decks can be a little harsh on your emotions (like how my deck bluntly tells me to get my shit together), plus there are sooo many different possible interpretations with tarot than there are with oracles. 1000/10, very good introduction to divination.
If you're into the Occult
Occult Tarot by Travis McHenry
Tumblr media
I just love this deck. Occult ideas, demonology, esotericism, and all the likes... It's amazing if you're into any of that. I've seen people use these decks just like tarot readings, basing the answer off the mythology of the entity on the cards (so it's good for if you want to get more into mythology research), also to see if they have any entities who want to work with them... there's a few ways I've seen this deck being used. It has the name, sigil, general keywords on each card too.
Other
Golden Thread Tarot
Tumblr media
I haven't used this one but I've heard amazing things about it and just looove the art on it.
Create Your Own
You can create your own tarot/oracle deck. I really love this method. Since you created it, obviously there's a very strong connection already built. It takes a pretty long time, but you can ultimately create whatever you want, make the cards mean whatever you want... if you want to read a past life, make a past life oracle deck with themes like places, emotions, gender... the ideas are limitless. This doesn't really introduce you to other decks unless you want it to (like if you base the meanings of your cards on traditional tarot), but it 1000% introduces you to intuition, readings, shuffling, spreads, etc.
How to Pick a Deck
Well, everyone says "just pick the one that calls to you," but there are SO many decks out there, how could you be drawn to only one?
I wasn't even really drawn to my first deck. I just picked the cheapest one and it worked amazingly, I still use it from time to time.
It always doesn't matter if you're drawn to a deck, the connection you build with the deck after you purchase it is what really matters.
So if you just like the art, want the cheapest option, or if you really do feel drawn to a deck, go ahead and get it.
But you can ask yourself these questions -- What do I hope to use the deck for? Do I prefer a brutally honest deck or one that's sensitive to my emotions? What vibe do I hope to get from the deck? Do I prefer a deck from a popular seller or one made by a small business?
From there you can browse decks and whichever you feel would give you the most accurate results from the answers you gave yourself is the one for you. Based on popular sellers/small businesses, you can narrow down where you'll be searching for the deck and start browsing for one that fits the vibe you want to have with the deck.
You could even just flip a coin to make a decision. The connection you will build is a lot more important than the connection you may or may not feel when trying to decide on which deck to buy.

magic to protect the home
🗝 i recently got a new place and i’ve been coming up with all sorts of new wards and such for the new space (which has been so fun ahh) so i figured why not make a little list of things i’ve noticed have really great protective qualities for the home, i hope you guys find a few to string together for your personal home wards :)
- cinnamon; really great to shake up the energies after having troublesome visitors and bringing back the warm and cozy vibes
- rosemary; good for lightly refreshing stale energies, great for a new space or whenever you feel like things are sort of just stagnant in the house
- most black stones; particularly onyx, tourmaline, kyanite, obsidian, etc, are all great for either repelling/absorbing negative energies, just make sure you research which does what because you’ll wanna cleanse the ‘absorbers’ regularly!
- black pepper; similar to cinnamon it’s really good at getting rid of lingering energies from visitors, i’d say it’s a bit stronger for things like banishing and renewal though :)
- english ivy; really great for integrating good energy into the home and keeping it there, brings a grounded and secure energy to a home
- cayenne; really any red pepper is great for keeping out unwanted energies, also serves as a great restart button for particularly aggressive energies
- thyme; encourages civility in a chaotic household
- cacti thorns; careful getting these! but they’re amazing for keeping out unwanted energies, i wouldn’t recommend for cleansing necessarily though
🗝 there’s definitely so many more but these are the ones i’m most familiar with at the moment, so i might make a pt.2 eventually once i experiment a bit more, i hope this was helpful!

The Art of Astragalomancy
Derived from the Ancient Greek words for knucklebones and talus bones, “astragalus” and “astragali,” and the suffix for divination or magic, “mancy.”
This form of Cleromancy— divination through casting quadruped bones or dice, has been recorded throughout history in several areas of the world. It is even suggested by researchers that the practice stretches farther back before record as well.
It’s been estimated that the rediscovered astragali near altars or funeral locations in Greece, Mediterranean, and Near East countries, dated back to pre-500 BCE.
Although the earliest documentation of dice was from the Egyptian game of Senet, played before 3000 BCE and up to 2nd century CE. Games involving dice has also been recorded in ancient Indian texts such as the Mahābhārata from 3rd century BCE to 3rd century CE.
Moreover, the Shona people of Southern Africa performed divination with Hakata, also known as carved wood or bone dice.
Traditionally, sheep and goat knucklebones would be marked with letters or numbers. These markings would then become associated with specific meanings that would hold the answers to the querent or diviner’s questions. Through a random sequence, a prediction can be made through interpretation— stringing them together as a sentence.
Astragalomancy is certainly not a thing of the past. In our modern day, the 14th Dalai Lama has been known to consult the Mo, a dice divination method based on Buddhist philosophy and Tibetan shaman traditions!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⚀⚁⚂⚃⚄⚅
How to read the Common Dice
⚀⚁⚂⚃⚄⚅
As we all know, modern game or divination knucklebones and dice are made out of plastic, metal, and even crystals. The common die is cubed and known as the d6, as it has 6 sides.
You will need 3 of these die in order to perform the most commonly used method of dice divination— originating from a traditionally Ancient Tibetan technique. A circle is first needed to be drawn on a paper or ground unless a divination mat with a pre-drawn circle has already been purchased. Ask the (open-ended) question, cast the dice, and you will be answered.
Pay attention to the position of the dice. You will have to examine if any fell outside of the circle. Interpret as written below:
1 Die outside - Obstacles or difficulties may lie ahead in the near future… things will not go as planned (Maybe)
2 Dice outside - Quarrels or disagreements are likely in regards to this situation… (No)
3 Dice outside - Luck, fortune and success! You’ll be fine, so no further reading is needed… (Yes)
The dice that falls within the circle will reveal a message based on the sum:
0, 1, 2) Sorry, no answer for the querent. They will have to try again some other day.
3) The querent will experience change in certain circumstances within their life soon.
4) There will likely be arguments or unpleasantries in a future exchange or regarding situation due to a misunderstanding.
5) An unforeseen revelation or obtainment in knowledge will come, helping the querent fulfill their desired manifestations.
6) Be wary of loss of any kind; financial, relationship, material items, etc.
7) Someone is possibly being cunning and causing setbacks. Otherwise, the querent will have general hardships or obstacles in the near future, but they should not fret, as it will be remedied in due time.
8) Stop! The querent shouldn’t act impulsively, as it may lead to trouble or undesirable results. Be patient and practical about this situation. Possible injustice or external factors are in the way as well.
9) May be a sign of rekindling or forgiveness in the matters of the heart. The querent may find themselves in a potential romantic or business union in the near future. Success in these areas are likely.
10) New beginnings in family life, career path or community are soon to come! This can refer to a birth of project, promotion or literal baby.
11) There may be a potential loss of a person in the querent’s life, short term illness… Or the return of a person who was estranged from them.
12) A very important message is to come, and the querent may need to seek guidance if it refers to legal matters. Alternatively, this may rather refer to a large sum of money coming into the querent’s life soon.
13) The querent may need to redirect their path, as continuing may lead them to more obstacles or disappointments.
14) There will be a friend or family member who will offer assistance. Alternatively, this result may suggest a new romance arriving soon.
15) The querent will need to proceed with caution and avoid starting new ventures for the next week. Try not to be drawn into gossip or temptations.
16) There will be time to relax through a short trip, entertainment, and/or emotions of relief through money coming in for the querent.
17) A change of perspective and/or adjustment in one’s plans may be needed. The querent should be receptive to the advice and council of others, whether they know them or not.
18) There is luck, success and blessings on the way! The querent will feel completion or fulfilment after a long journey.
*Note: The Tibetans believe that 2 dice falling on top of the other while throwing, suggests that the querent will receive a gift in the near future. They will also need to re-throw the dice for their reading.
**It is also believed that a die falling on the floor after performing the reading on a tabletop, signifies losing a close friendship.
***If you own DnD dice, you may find divination resources online that interpret the meanings of higher numbers.
****Some people may additionally associate the numbers to numerology interpretations to provide more insight!
