Sam and Dean
When they saw the doorway to C-Block explode, both of the boys stood frozen in shock. Sam was the first to recover, running towards the rubble.
“YN!” Sam screamed. The tank fired another round and it landed close to Sam. He stumbled back from the shockwave and that spurred Dean into motion.
“Sammy!” Dean ran towards his brother and hauled him to his feet.
“YN! We have to get to YN!” Sam said. He went to move forward, but Dean held him back.
“Sam! The bus is gone. YN knew that if the Impala was out of commission, she’d go on the bus with everyone else!”
Sam knew that Dean was right, but he couldn’t get his feet to move. It wasn’t until Dean started dragging him away that Sam got his head collected and started moving with his brother.
“I hope you’re right,” Sam said.
They started running towards the woods, but before they could leave the prison, they saw Sophia and Adeline being cornered by some men. Rage filled both of their bodies and they rushed towards the girls, pushing the men away from them. Dean scooped both the little girls into his arms while Sam shot the men.
“You’re alright,” Dean said to the shaking girls softly.
“Come on, Dean. We gotta get out of here,” Sam said.
---
The four of them followed the road, but stayed in the woods. They were worried that some of the Governor’s men would come after them, even if it was unlikely. After a few nights of camping in the woods and moving north, the two brothers, Adeline, and Sophia went out of the woods and towards some train tracks. When they got there, they both stopped abruptly. Rick, Carl, and Michonne were standing right in front of them.
“Rick?” Sam said softly, afraid to use his voice. Rick’s head whipped around and a small smile appeared on his face.
“Have you seen YN and Lottie?” Dean asked as he gave Carl a hug. Rick was holding Sophia close, both he and Michonne shaking their heads.
“No. You’re the first I’ve seen besides these two.” Michonne looked at the ground. “I’m sorry.”
Rick and Carl both shook their heads and the two brothers looked at each other.
“She’ll be fine, Sammy,” Dean said. “She can hold her own.”
“I know. Still makes me worry.”
Rick patted Sam’s shoulder and said, “We’ll find them. I have a feeling she might be going to Terminus.”
“Terminus?”
Rick pointed to a sign. The five of them walked over to the train car and read the sign.
“Sanctuary for all? That sounds like a big promise,” Dean said.
“Do you think mommy’s there?” Adeline asked.
“It’s the only thing we got going for us right now,” Michonne said with a shake of her head. “We can only hope that everyone else saw the signs too.”
“She’s right, Dean. If YN saw it she’d go thinking that we would go to find her there.” Sam gave his brother a pointed look and Dean sighed.
“Alright. Let’s go find the rest of our family.”
---
YN
The next few days went by in a blur. Maggie had run off on her own after you came across a sign for Terminus. You had agreed to stay together and go, but she had run off, saying that she didn’t want you all killed helping her. So naturally, you followed her.
Then, Sasha decided that she wanted to stop looking for everyone and make a camp in one of the buildings you came across. She did that while you went on with Bob. You hadn’t been walking for more than fifteen minutes when you heard Maggie call out for the two of you. Turning, you saw Maggie and Sasha walking towards you and you gathered both of them in a hug, happy to see them. Sasha took Charlotte from you to give you a break.
It didn’t take long before you saw another sign for Terminus and this time, you signed it with all of your names. When you came across a tunnel, the darkness made you nervous, but it was the fastest way through, so the four of you made your way inside after making a note to Glenn on the tunnel wall.
“You think my brothers saw the signs too?” You asked, voice quiet. Light was bouncing off the walls and every little sound echoed a little too loudly.
“I think so. They’re smart and you’ve been through a lot, even before the dead started walking,” Maggie said.
“Like what?” Bob asked, confusion in his voice.
“Shit, you don’t know, do you?” You looked at Bob. “The things that go bump in the night are real. My brothers and I hunted them with our dad before this started. Even after we still ran in to some problems.”
“Bump in the night?”
“Vampires, Shapeshifters, poltergeists,” Maggie said. “The supernatural.”
“Nuh-uh. You’re lying.”
“We’re not. Remember the tests we put you through? How we made you wear a silver ring?” You said. “Silver is a deterrent for most of the supernatural. It made sure that you weren’t a monster. Or a monster affected by silver at least.”
“Have you ever found a monster from your tests?” Bob asked apprehensively. You shook your head.
“No, but we’ve come across them when we were on runs and such.”
Bob was about to say something when Sasha shushed him. Shining her light straight down the tunnel, you saw a whole herd of walkers. There were around twenty of them, maybe twenty-five. One of them saw the light from Sasha’s flashlight and they all came stumbling towards you.
“Shit,” you said. “Shit, shit, shit.”
Taking your gun out, you went to shoot but Sasha stopped you.
“We have to run!” She said. You all started running, but you found yourself falling behind.
“There’s too many of them!” Maggie said. She stopped for a second before drawing her gun and pointing it at the ceiling. As the clip emptied, the ceiling started to collapse.
“Run!” Sasha screamed.
Looking up, you saw that you were too far behind to make it with them, so you started running the other direction. You could hear them calling for you and Charlotte was crying, but you ignored them. When the ceiling stopped falling, you coughed and fell against the tunnel wall.
“YN!” You heard Maggie and Sasha cry. Charlotte was crying harder and your heart hurt.
“Lottie! Is Charlotte okay?!” You yelled, voice border lining on hysterical.
“She’s okay!” Sasha said. “Are you?”
“I’m alright! You guys keep going, make sure Lottie’s safe and I’ll—“ You were cut off by a walker grabbing your foot. Falling to the ground with a yell, you kicked it away before pulling out your gun and shooting it in the head. A few more came at you but you dispatched them all quickly before getting up.
“I’ll go the long way around! You keep going to Terminus and I’ll meet you there!”
You didn’t get a response and you bit your lip before rummaging through your bag and finding your emergency flashlight. When you found it, it had no juice left and you swore before stuffing back inside and zipping the bag up. Placing it on your shoulders, you got your gun and knife ready. You turned around and started walking back to the entrance.
Your steps were careful and you made the least amount of noise you could. There was a fair amount of chance that other walkers had heard the commotion that went on when Maggie collapsed the ceiling and you didn’t want to risk running into one of them when you had no light source.
You had been walking for a few minutes when you saw a light shining inside the tunnel. You frowned and crouched as low as you could. It couldn’t be Maggie and the others. The tunnel was too long and you hadn’t even gotten halfway through when shit hit the fan. Then you heard one of the voices.
“Glenn?” You said tentatively. You were still crouched, but you saw the light stop moving.
“YN? YN is that you?” There was hope in his voice and you let out a sob before standing up and going into the light.
“Oh my god.” Glenn dropped the flashlight and went running towards you. You crashed into his arms, tears falling down your face.
“You made it out,” you said, voice muffled from his jacket. “How did you make it out? Have you seen my brothers? What about Daryl or Adeline? Anyone?”
“A lot of luck. And no, I haven’t seen anyone but you, I’m sorry.” Glenn pulled back and held your shoulders in his hands. Frantically he said, “Maggie. Where’s Maggie? The signs you left said she was with you.”
“We just got separated. Walkers came at us and I had to go back.”
“What happened?”
“C’mon. I’ll show you.” You led him over to where the collapse happened. Climbing up, Glenn shined his flashlight on the walkers that were left and on the ceiling.
“Maggie shot the ceiling. I was already falling behind and I couldn’t keep up. When the chunks of roof started falling, I ran back. Wouldn’t’ve made it if I kept going forward,” you said. There was a sour expression on your face and you kicked a corpse angrily.
“Did she make it?”
“They said they were fine but after that I didn’t hear anything else. I yelled that I was going the long way around but I didn’t get an answer.” You looked at Glenn. “I’m so sorry. I should’ve kept going.”
“No, it’s not your fault, YN,” Glenn said with a shake of his head. “Now let’s go. Now that there’s three of us, we should be able to take all these walkers on and get out of here.”
Glenn lit up the walkers milling about with the flashlight, confirming that they made it through. With that information, you let out a sigh of relief. You sent Glenn and smile and he returned it before looking at the other person with you.
“Oh, I should probably introduce the two of you. YN, this is Tara. Tara, this is YN,” Glenn said.
“Nice to meet you,” Tara said. You wordlessly held out your hand and Tara tentatively took it, a slight pink tinge to her cheeks. Making a mental note that the silver of your ring didn’t affect her, you looked at Glenn.
“Did you do any tests?” You asked him. His eyes widened slightly and he shook his head.
“No, but we don’t have time for that. I have to get to Maggie.”
“Tests?” Tara looked confused and you stopped rummaging in your bag, looking at Glenn.
“You trust her?”
“Yes,” Glenn said. “I do.”
“Alright. But the second we find the others, I’m doing more tests,” you said. “Now c’mon. It’s gonna take a hot minute to double back and go over the tunnel.”
“Go over? It’ll be faster to just go through.” Glenn was pointing forward and you shook your head.
“That’s too dangerous, Glenn,” you said. “We know where they’re going and we’ll catch up to them. We can’t do that if we get bit.”
“YN—“ Glenn started. You shook your head again.
“I’m still not at a full one-hundred percent and I know you aren’t either, Glenn. If we push through, we’ll die. I’d rather that didn’t happen.”
“I’m going through, YN,” Glenn said. “And you can’t stop me.”
Without another word, Glenn started to climb back up the rubble and Tara looked at him.
“She’s right,” Tara said to Glenn. “It’s too dangerous.”
“I’m going.”
“Fine,” you said with a huff. Grabbing the flashlight out of his hand, you walked over to the rubble by the wall.
“What are you doing?” Tara asked.
“Making a distraction. They’ll move towards the light and hopefully ignore us.” Wiggling the flashlight to attract the walkers, you set it down carefully and walked back over to Glenn and Tara.
“Alright. Let’s go.”
You weren’t happy about this plan, but you knew that Glenn would make good on his promise and go anyways. At least this way, you would stay together. So you climbed down as quietly as you could, Glenn right behind you with Tara bringing up the rear. You were tentatively looking around the corner to see if all the walkers were occupied enough for you to sneak past them when you heard a stone falling behind you. Whipping your head around, you saw that Tara’s leg was stuck underneath a rock.
“I’m stuck,” Tara whispered, whimpering slightly when Glenn tried to move the rock.
“Glenn, hurry up and get her free,” you hissed. “We gotta get out of here.”
“Go,” Tara said. Glenn looked at her and then at you.
“No,” you both said at the same time.
“Go find Maggie. Find your brothers.”
“We’re not leaving you,” you said.
“You can’t save me. Even if you managed to get this off of me, I won’t be able to run,” Tara said shakily. “They’ll get all of us because of me.”
“There’s got to be a way,” Glenn said.
“We don’t leave people behind, Tara,” you said.
“Get out of here!” She suddenly yelled. “Go!”
“No,” Glenn said.
The two of you shared a look and you nodded, grabbing your gun and cocking it. Shooting the walkers that came close, you both ran out of ammo quickly. You unsheathed your knife and Glenn picked up his empty rifle, the both of you ready to go hand-to-hand, when a blinding light appeared.
“Get down!” Someone yelled.
Glenn grabbed you, covering you and Tara with his body as gunshots rang out inside the tunnel. When the gunfire stopped, Glenn got off of you and saw Maggie walking towards you. They had a heartfelt reunion and you looked at Sasha, relief coursing through your body when you saw your daughter.
“Charlotte!” You said. Stumbling forward, you took your daughter out of Sasha’s arms and kissed her head before squeezing your best friend tightly.
“Oh thank god. You’re alright? No scratches or bites?” She said, going to check you.
“No.” You shook your head. “Are you okay? All of you?”
“We’re fine. We were running to meet you when we ran into these people. They said they knew Glenn and that he had gone inside the tunnel. We figured you’d meet up with him and explain what happened so we decided to go back inside and get you that way.”
“Well I’m certainly glad you did,” you said with a laugh. Sasha laughed with you and gave you one last squeeze before letting you go. Tara came up to you and you turned to her, Sasha going back to Bob.
“Thank you for not leaving me behind,” Tara said. “I know I told you to but I was really scared to die.”
“We’re not the type of people to leave someone behind,” you said.
“I can tell.” She looked at you and bit her lip, uncertainty flashing across her face.
“What is it?” You asked, bouncing Ada softly.
“You have a kid and you still risked your life for a stranger. Why?”
“The best thing I could do for my daughter in that instant was help a stranger. She was safe with her family and what example would I be setting if I didn’t help someone? Especially if that someone was important to her Uncle Glenn.” You tickled Lottie’s belly and she giggled. A smile appeared on Tara’s face before it was replaced with a frown.
“You mentioned tests earlier. What did you mean?”
“At the prison, the place we were staying before we got stuck out here, my brothers and I were in charge of talking to all the newcomers. We made sure that they were safe to bring in.”
“So you did some tests on them?”
“Yes.”
“Does it hurt?”
“It shouldn’t.” You grabbed your bag and walked a little ways away, motioning for Tara to follow. She did and you could hear one of the newcomers asking what you were doing. Glenn answered, but you stopped paying attention.
“So I’m going to do a couple things. All you have to do is do what I say, when I say it,” you said. Rummaging through your bag, you brought out some small pieces of metal.
“Hold this for a second.” You handed her the pieces of metal and dug around in your bag for your flask.
“Is something supposed to be happening?”
“For your sake, no,” you said. Taking the metal from her, you held out your hand.
“What?” She asked.
“Give me your arm, please.”
Tara held out her arm and you pushed her jacket up a little before pouring a little holy water on her. When nothing happened, you nodded your head and packed all the stuff back up.
“She’s clean,” you called to Glenn. To Tara you said, “You are to wear this ring for the rest of the time you’re with us. If I see that you’ve taken it off then there’s going to be trouble, understand?”
“Yes,” Tara said. She took the ring you handed her and slipped it on.
“Clean of what?” The redhead asked, coming towards you.
“I’ll tell you after I make sure everyone else here is too.” You pointed at him. “You’re next. Follow me.”
“I’m sorry, honey, but I don’t follow orders,” he said. “I give them.”
“If you don’t follow me and do as I say, I won’t hesitate to put your ass in the dirt,” you said.
“You couldn’t take me,” he scoffed. You raised your eyebrow but said nothing.
“Abraham,” Glenn said warningly.
“What? Little thing like her couldn’t do—“ Abraham was cut off by you sweeping his feet out from under him.
“Ass, meet dirt,” you said. “I can do so much more when I’m not holding a baby, so your best chance will be to follow me.”
Begrudgingly, Abraham followed you. After he passed the tests, you did the same thing to Eugene and Rosita. All of them were clean and you gave them silver rings of their own. They of course questioned everything so you explained to them about the monsters you’ve hunted. They were unbelieving at first, but you managed to convince them that you weren’t crazy. Rosita wasn’t hard to convince, claiming she’d seen some shit before so she went off and secured the tunnel with Tara while Glenn and Maggie dealt with the walker bodies.
“So now that you’ve told us that the dead walking isn’t the only threat out there of that magnitude, let me tell you something that should get your spirits up,” Abraham looked at Eugene and said, “This man right here has to get to DC to help get the world back in order.”
“I’m sorry, that sounded like you meant he has a cure?” Sasha said.
“I do.”
Your eyes widened and you shared a look with Sasha.
“No fucking way,” you blurted with a shake of your head.
“I’m not joking,” Eugene said.
“I’ve looked all over my dad’s notes for a cure, talked to as many hunters as I could before shit stopped working and no one knew anything about this,” you said.
“It’s not a supernatural thing, I can assure you of that. It was man made. That’s all I can say on the subject.”
“So you’re saying the fate of the world is classified.” You scoffed and crossed your arms. “Of course it is.”
“You should come to DC with us,” Abraham said.
“I’m not going anywhere until I find my brothers and everyone else,” you said.
“Glenn, Eugene knows the cure for the walkers,” Sasha said. You looked up to see Glenn and Maggie walking up.
“Yeah. I’m guessing Abraham asked you to go to DC with him?”
“I’m downright tickled y’all found each other. We should celebrate for the rest of the night. Tomorrow there’s no reason at all why the nine of us plus the little one shouldn’t stuff ourselves in that van and head up to Washington,” Abraham said.
“He’s right. I’m gonna go,” Tara said.
“Well I’m not. I still need to find my brothers and my other daughter.”
“He’s wrong, Tara,” Eugene said. “We’re almost sixty percent of the way from Houston to Washington. Up until now, we’ve had a military vehicle and we lost eight people. I don’t think that grocery grabber will do us any better.”
Eugene looked around at everyone. “We’re a day’s walk from Terminus. Who knows what they got there.”
“It won’t hurt to check it out,” Rosita said. “We could load up on supplies, try to recruit some people.”
“I’ll go with you guys. But after we see Terminus. I have to know if my brother’s there,” Sasha said.
“Me too,” Bob said. “On both counts.”
“Alright. Tomorrow, we’re going to the end of the line,” Abraham said after he stood up. “Then Washington.”
---
Sam and Dean
After a couple days of walking, the six of them came across an abandoned truck. It was the best they’d be able to get with night approaching so a fire was quickly made and the two tiny rabbits Rick had managed to catch roasted up. After the food was gone, Carl and Sophia had gone to sleep in the car while the adults stayed by the fire.
“Those were really small,” Michonne said, stoking the fire.
“We’ll be at Terminus tomorrow and hopefully get some food there,” Sam said.
“Have you noticed that all anyone really talks about anymore is food?” Rick said after a second. “I’ve forgotten what it felt like, to be out here.”
“We’ll be somewhere safe soon.”
“If the folks there are taking more people in, they’ve gotta be strong. They’d have to have a system,” Rick said as he kicked out the fire.
“I’m still wondering if it’s legit,” Dean said. “It just feels too good to be true.”
Right then, a branch snapped behind them and hands went to weapons. No one saw anything out of the ordinary, so Rick and Dean sat down hesitantly.
“We took people in,” Rick said.
“So did the Governor,” Michonne said. Sam and Dean looked at each other before looking at the ground.
“That’s how it is, isn’t it? We don’t get to know until we do.”
“And if it is something like Woodbury?” Sam said, eyes closed. Dean was still looking at the ground.
“We don’t even know if it’s still there,” Rick said. Dean sighed and rubbed his face. He looked up to see someone holding a gun to Rick’s head.
“Oh dearie me,” the man said. He looked at Sam and Dean. “I suggest you put those guns away before I shoot your friend in the head.”
The two of them put their guns on the ground and a couple of the men came up behind them and took the weapons. Michonne had a gun pointed at her head and the unmistakable sound of a gun cocking was heard behind the brothers.
“You definitely screwed up, asshole,” the man holding Rick at gunpoint said.
Looking around, Sam noticed that there were six men in total. Two in front of him, two behind him, and two over by the truck where the kids were. The man by Rick was monologuing but Sam wasn’t listening. He was on high alert, trying to find a time to get out of this situation. Then, Daryl popped up.
“Joe!” Daryl said. He came from behind the truck, holding his crossbow and a trash bag, Beth and an unknown boy right next to him. She was shaking from fear but Dean felt relief crash through his body when he saw that they were both okay.
“You’re stoppin’ me on eight, Daryl,” Joe said. Daryl walked forward after motioning Beth and the boy to stay put.
“Just, hold up.” Daryl was now right behind Sam.
“This is the guy who killed Lou. We got nothin’ to talk about,” one of the men spat.
“Thing about nowadays is we got nothin’ but time. Say your piece, Daryl,” Joe said.
“These people, they’re good people. You’re gonna let ‘em go.”
“I think Lou would disagree with you on that,” Joe said, a slight stutter in his voice. “I will have to speak for him, of course, seein’ as your friend here, strangled him in a bathroom and left him to turn.”
“Ya want blood, and I get it.” Daryl put his belongings on the ground and spread his arms wide. “Take it from me, man.”
“This man killed our friend. You say he’s good people, but that’s- that’s a lie. It’s a damn lie!”
Daryl’s face fell for just a second before the two men behind Sam and Dean started beating him. Beth let out a stifled scream and Joe’s attention turned to her.
“After you teach him good, you can have the girl,” Joe said. Pure terror came over face and she started backing up.
“Don’t you touch her,” Sam and Dean both said, venom in their voices.
“That’s not for you to decide,” Joe said. The fighting had moved closer to the kids and then the men over by the truck opened the door, dragging Carl, Adeline, and Sophia outside.
“You leave them be!” Rick roared.
He went to stand up but Joe was quick to sit him back down. Rick and Joe were talking but Dean wasn’t listening. He was too busy making sure nothing happened to the kids. Seeing them scared out of their minds was making him seethe in anger, but he was trying to keep a level head. Dean could see Beth and the new kid making their way behind the truck and Dean shook his head when they made eye contact. With his eyes, he signaled towards the woods and Beth nodded. She grabbed the kids hand and when the gun went off, they were running as fast as they could into the trees, Dean following quickly.
“Oh my god,” Dean said, pulling Beth close when they were far enough away. “Did they hurt you? Are you alright?”
“I’m fine,” Beth said. “They wanted to but Daryl and Noah stopped them.”
“Noah?” Dean turned to the other kid and held his hand out.
“Thanks for keeping her safe,” Dean said. Noah took his hand and shook it.
“More like she kept me safe,” Noah said.
“Now, what are we gonna do about this problem?” Beth asked. “These men are vile and vicious. They’ll keep their promises about beating Daryl to death and hurting everyone if we don’t do anything about it.”
“I’m going to do something about it. The two of you are gonna stay here where you won’t get hurt,” Dean said.
“But Dean—“
“No. No buts. I just got some of my family back unharmed and it’s going to stay that way. You’re going to stay here and watch each other’s backs while I go and stop these men. I’ll come back for you.” Dean kissed Beth’s forehead before running back to the truck.
Dean got there just in time to see Rick rip out Joe’s throat. He took advantage of the moment of horror, grabbing his gun and shooting one of the men beating Daryl. Michonne shot the one holding her and Daryl smashed the head of the other man beating him. When Rick advanced on the men holding the kids, both Sam and Michonne shot the one holding the girls while Rick gutted the man who touched his son. The kids were hanging onto Michonne for dear life but when Adeline saw Sam, she bolted over to him. Sam picked her up and ran over to Dean.
“Dean, where’s Beth?” Sam said.
“Beth and Noah are over there by that clump of trees,” Dean said. He looked at Daryl. “I’m gonna go get them. You should let Sammy look at your injuries.”
“Alright,” Daryl said, wincing slightly as he took a step forward. Dean ran off into the woods, only slowing down when he got near where he left Beth.
“Beth,” Dean said softly. “It’s alright, you can come out now.”
Dean rounded a tree and found Beth standing there with Noah.
“Are they dead?” She said. Dean nodded and Beth ran up to him, crashing into his arms. Dean ran a soothing hand up and down her back for a few seconds before pulling back.
“Come on. We should go back.”
Beth nodded and the three of them walked back to the truck. Sam had dragged the bodies away from the truck before they got back and Dean gave him a grateful look. Carl, Adeline, Sophia, and Michonne were already in the truck. Noah needed no prompting and he got into the passenger seat when Dean opened it for him. Dean led Beth over to the driver’s seat but she shook her head.
“Can you stay with me?” She asked. Dean looked at her before looking at Sam and Daryl. They nodded and waved him off so he looked back at Beth.
“Of course I can.” The two of them climbed into the back of the truck and Beth curled into Dean. She fell asleep like that quickly and he sighed, tilting his head back.
“Night didn’t turn out good, did it?” Dean said to Michonne.
“No, it didn’t. But at least we got Beth and Daryl back,” she said.
“How’re the kids?”
“A little shaken up, but asleep. How’s Beth?”
“The same.” Dean brushed some of her hair away from her face before leaning down to kiss her head.
“She reminds me so much of YN,” Dean mused quietly. “You should’ve seen her when our dad let us go on our first hunt. She was so scared but once it started, it was like everything clicked into place. She was a natural. Beth’s gonna be the same way, I know it. Sophia and Adeline too.”
“They’re both strong, that’s for sure. Beth just doesn’t know it yet.”
A few minutes of silence passed before Michonne spoke again.
“You should get some sleep. We have Daryl and Sam making sure everything’s going smoothly out there. You’re gonna need to keep your strength up,” she said.
“If you insist,” Dean said. He yawned and shifted slightly, getting comfortable before falling asleep.
---
Dean was woken up by Sam a few hours later. Beth was still snoring softly, curled up into his side and Dean blinked wearily before his eyes landed on his brother.
“Sammy?” Dean slurred, still slightly asleep.
“We gotta get moving,” Sam said. Dean twisted his head and saw that the other people were already out of the truck.
“Alright.” Dean stretched and shook Beth awake.
“Beth?” He said quietly. “Come on, sweetheart. It’s time to get up.”
“Don’t wanna,” Beth said, shoving her face into Dean’s chest.
“I know, but we gotta get going.”
Beth let out a full-bodied sigh before sitting up. Letting out a yawn, she stretched and clambered out of the truck. Dean watched as Adeline came up and almost tackled her to the ground in a hug, Sophia and Carl right behind her. He got out of the truck and walked up to Daryl. Clapping him on the back, the two of them looked at Beth being reunited fully with the others.
“The two of you get out together?” Dean asked.
“Yeah. She had gone ta find some o’ the kids, ta get ‘em on the bus. Bus got away and we ran outta the prison,” Daryl said.
“I’m glad she had you to watch over her.”
“She’s strong. Don’t know it yet, but she is.” Daryl glanced at Dean. “Do ya know if anyone else made it out?”
“I have no idea. YN had taken Charlotte into the cell block to grab some stuff but that’s the last time I saw them.” Dean looked at the ground and took a breath.
“We’ll find ‘em,” Daryl said, nodding to himself.
“We will.” The two of them shared a knowing glance and walked over to the bags laying on the ground.
No other words were spoken as they left the road and got back on the train tracks. Rick and Michonne were leading the group, three of the four kids behind them. Adeline was holding Daryl’s hand as they walked, Sam and Dean bringing up the rear. After a bit of walking, they came across another sign for Terminus.
“We’re gettin’ close,” Daryl said. “Get there ‘fore sundown.”
“Now we head through the woods. We don’t know who they are.”
“Alright.”
The nine of them got off of the tracks and into the woods, always wary of their surroundings. It was time to see what Terminus was all about.

"Fuck," you said, back hitting the ceiling. "We have to get out before we crash!"
Thor only grunted and swung at the window, missing completely. He hit the spot he had cracked earlier with his back, the glass breaking some more. The two of you shared a look and Thor made his way over to you. He grabbed you and when the timing lined up, Thor pushed off and the two of you flew through the glass. It was just in the nick of time, the cell crashing to the ground. With a yell, Thor bear-hugged you and angled himself so he'd touch the ground and you wouldn't be hurt as bad. You bounced a couple of times before skidding to a stop a few hundred feet away.
"Are you alright?" Thor said, helping you stand.
"I-I think so," you said. You gave him a half smile and looked up. You couldn't see the carrier anymore.
"Where'd it go?" Thor asked.
"They went dark. We won't be able to find them." You looked at Thor. "Where around here would Loki make his big entrance?"
"What?"
"He's gonna want a show. We all know that. So where would he want to have opening night?"
Thor looked at you. "Jane told me about some cities you have here. Big ones."
"We're close to New York. It makes sense. Come on, we have to go." You took off into the air, Thor following you.
---
It didn't take long to make it to the city. When you arrived, you saw Tony trying to contain the invasion. He couldn't take them all on by himself so you took a breath and started helping him.
"On your right, Stark!" You said.
"Porter, you're not dead."
"I'm still alive and kicking. Thor too. Where's everyone else?"
"Cap and Romanoff are on their way with Barton in the quinjet. We don't know where Banner is."
A wave of relief surged through you. Clint was okay. You laughed and cut one of the aliens in half with your water.
"Oh thank God." You continued fighting until you saw the jet crash land. Flying over, you stopped when you saw Clint, stumbling a little.
"YN," Clint said. He ran over and gave you a bone-breaking hug.
"I'm happy you're back," you said.
"Me too." The two of you laughed and Nat came over.
"Here's a comms."
"Thanks." You put the device in your ear. All four of you started running back towards Stark Tower.
"We gotta find a way up there," Cap said.
"I could bring one of you up there at a time, but that might take too long," you said.
A roar came from the sky and you looked up to see a giant armored monster come through the portal. It started shooting Chitauri from its back, the aliens crashing into buildings.
"Stark, are you seeing this?" Cap said.
"Seeing, still working on believing. Where's Banner? He shown up yet?"
"Banner?"
"Just keep me posted."
You looked around, trying to find something that would help take down Loki and his army when you were suddenly being shot at. Ducking, you rolled to cover, Nat and Clint following. Civilians screamed as they ran for cover below you.
"You two go. Clint and I got it up here," Natasha said, firing at the aliens.
"You think you can hold them off?" Steve asked.
"Captain, it would be my genuine pleasure," Clint said.
"Be safe," you said to them. "Leave if you have to."
"Right back atcha, Porter," Clint said with a wink.
Sharing a look with Steve, he nodded and jumped off the bridge. Steve kept running once he landed and you started helping the people close by. It wasn't easy. Everyone was screaming and you were constantly under fire from the Chitauri.
"Help!" You heard someone cry. It came from your left and you made your way to it after killing the alien in your way.
"Please! Help us!" You furrowed your brows, the voice sounding familiar. "Please!"
"Peter?!" You ran towards his voice and found your little brother holding his friend in his arms.
"He-He won't wake up!" Peter said, tears streaming down his face.
"Hey, hey," you soothed, taking off your mask. "It'll be alright. Look at me."
"YN?" Peter hiccuped and you wiped the tears from his face.
"It's me, sweetheart. Do you know where Aunt May is?"
"It's her day off. She's at th-the apartment."
"Alright. Let me see your friend." You checked his pulse. It was steady and you wiped the blood from his face.
"He'll be alright." Peter let out a sob, and you put your mask back on before picking up his friend.
"Ned's gonna be okay? He'll wake up?"
"Yes. Now follow me. I need to get the two of you to safety."
"Okay." Peter gripped your hand and you managed to get them both to an EMT without any problems.
"Hey! I got two kids here. One's fine, but the other's knocked out. Strong pulse, possible concussion," you said to the paramedic. They took Ned and you turned to Peter.
"I'll come see you when this is done. Don't tell anyone it's me, okay?"
"No! Don't leave me!" Peter cried. He lunged forward and grabbed your waist.
"Hey. It's okay. I love you. The paramedic will keep you safe." You brushed some hair from his face and kissed his forehead.
"You promise to come see us?"
"I promise."
"Pinkie promise." Peter held out his pinky and you linked yours with his.
"Porter! We need you back on the bridge," you heard Steve say through the comms.
"I'll be right there," you replied. To Peter you said, "See you later kiddo."
Taking off into the air, you flew back. There was an alien about to impale Natasha but you ripped it in half, purple blood splattering all over you. Steve was right behind you with Thor close behind. Thor zapped the other Chitauri with lightning and landed next to you.
"What's the story upstairs?" Steve asked Thor.
"The power that surrounds the cube, it's impenetrable."
"Thor's right. Right now, we got to deal with these guys," Tony said.
"Loki's going to keep this fight focused on us. Without him, these things could run wild," Steve said.
"They already are," you said. "Stark's up top and we need him to stay there. Clint, if you--"
You stopped at the sound of a motorcycle. Turning you saw Bruce coming towards the group.
"So, this is horrible," Bruce said.
"I've seen worse," Natasha said.
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be. We could use a little worse."
Steve told Tony that Bruce had shown up. Tony responded by saying he was bringing the party to you.
"I fail to see how that's a party," Natasha said.
"That's not a party. That's a nightmare," you muttered.
"Dr. Banner!" Steve said when he saw Bruce start to walk. "Now might be a good time for you to get angry."
"That's my secret, Cap. I'm always angry."
Bruce turned into the Hulk and punched the monster in the nose. It's armor crumpled as it flipped and Tony shot a missile into a chink in its armor. The monster blew up and you made a shield of water in front of you to protect yourself from the blast. The Chitauri gave screams and growls of protest at their beast being killed. You looked up at them, stretching your shoulders and readying your water.
"Guys, we have a problem," Nat said. You followed her gaze and saw more aliens pour out of the portal in the sky.
"Your call, Cap," Tony said.
"Until we can close that portal, containment is our priority. Barton, you get on that roof. Call out any patterns and strays. Stark, the perimeter's yours. Anything gets more than three blocks out, turn it back or turn it to ash."
"Can I get a lift?" Clint asked Tony.
"Yeah. Better clench up, Legolas," Tony said. He grabbed the back of Clint's shirt and they took off into the air.
"Thor, you take the portal. You got the lightning, light the bastards up and slow them down." Thor took off and Steve turned to you. "YN, you're going to cover the middle ground. Anything that gets away from Stark or Barton is yours. Romanoff and I are going to stay down here."
"Got it. Good luck."
You flew into the sky and started taking down Chitauri after Chitauri. Every so often you'd help someone or they'd help you, but you were getting tired. Flying and controlling water continuously drained you of so much energy and you hadn't had a proper night's rest for a while. A boom came from somewhere behind you and when you turned to look, you were hit in the back. You fell to the ground with a cry, crashing on top of the car.
"Fuck!" You yelled. You sliced the aliens head off and tried to sit up. Excruciating pain flared from your side and you looked down to see a piece of metal sticking out of you.
"Porter, are you okay?" Steve said over comms. "I saw you go down hard."
You couldn't answer and just whimpered in response.
"I got her," Tony said. He came over to you and you groaned when you saw him.
"I'm fine," you said.
"You're clearly not fine." He helped you get off of the car and onto the street.
"I'll be fine. Just give me a second." You ripped some of your suit off and after taking a few deep breaths, yanked the metal out of your side. It took everything in you not to scream out loud. You put the ripped suit onto the wound.
"See? Told you." You kept pressure on the wound. "It's not as bad as it looks, I promise."
"Stark! There's a missile headed straight for the city," Fury said to Tony. You heard it from Tony's helmet, Fury talking directly to him.
"How long?"
"Three minutes, max."
"They're sending a nuke?" You said.
"I have to go. We'll talk later." Tony took off and you made your way to the top of Stark Tower.
"I can close the portal, does anyone copy?" Natasha said.
"Do it!"
"No! I got a nuke coming in. It's gonna blow in less than a minute and I know just where to put it."
You landed next to Selvig, staggering a little. You watched as Tony took the nuke and fleq up through the portal. It exploded when it hit the ship and all of the Chitauri stopped moving all at once. The explosion kept getting closer and closer with no sign of Tony.
"Close it," Steve said. Nat hesitated for only a split second before using the scepter and closing the portal. You looked away from the portal and leaned against the wall.
"Son of a gun."
Looking up, you saw Tony falling through the air.
"He's not slowing down," you said after a moment. "Thor, catch him!"
Thor was about to go get Tony when Hulk grabbed him out of the air. You let out a breath you didn't know you were holding and glanced at Natasha.
"I'm going to sleep so good tonight," you said with a small laugh.
"Me too."
"Everyone, meet at the Tower. Loki's still there," Steve said.
"I'll give you a lift," you said to Nat. She nodded and you grabbed her waist, flying you down to meet the others. You could see Loki start to move and you all manage to sneak up on him.
"If it's all the same to you," Loki said with a groan. " I'll have that drink now."
---
Everything after that was a little bit of a blur. You got the wound in your side checked out, Rumlow and his team came and took the scepter away, and Fury told everyone to take some time off.
"Take care of yourself, Thor," you said as Banner loaded the Tesseract up.
"You too, Porter." He clapped you on the shoulder and took the Tesseract. Loki took the second handle and in a flash of blue, they were both gone.
"Porter, can I talk to you?" Tony said.
"What's up?"
"You feeling okay? You took a lot of pretty good hits."
"I'm fine, Stark," you said with a sigh. "I'm all healed and everything."
"Why don't you like me?" Tony asked bluntly.
"What?" You said, taken aback.
"I'm not saying you have to, but I'm curious. Every time I'd walk into a room you were in, you'd leave."
"My little brother idolizes you. He almost died at the Stark Expo two years ago." Tony was about to interrupt, but you stopped him. "He's fine. I know that's not directly your fault, but he was nine and terrified. I'm sure that you're cool and all, but give me some time."
"Understood. I'm sorry."
"Thank you. Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to leave." You said your goodbyes to everyone and got on your bike. Starting the engine, you drove to Peter and May's apartment in Queens.
Knocking on the door, you waited for May to open it.
"YN!" May pull you into a hug and you heard Peter gasp and run over to you. He crashed into you and it turned into a group hug.
"Oh thank God you're both safe," you said. You walked into the apartment, Peter in your arms.
"Peter told me what happened," May said.
"I'm sorry," Peter said into your shoulder.
"It's okay, kiddo." You looked at May. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you. It was too dangerous."
"I understand. Peter said that you have some, uh, abilities?"
"I do." You tried to put Peter down, but he wouldn't let go.
"No," Peter mumbled. You smiled and shook your head.
"Okay. It's alright, I can do everything like this." You floated a few feet in the air and moved around a bit. When you landed, you changed your face to look like a completely different person.
"Holy shit," May said, eyes wide.
"She can control water too," Peter said.
"I can."
"How?"
"It's a long story," you said, glancing down at Peter.
"Can you stay?" Peter asked you.
"I can stay for a little bit, yeah. I'm on vacation from work."
"Really?" Peter looked at you with wide eyes and you smiled at him.
"Really, really."
"I got a new Lego set, want to build it with me?"
"Of course!"
"I'll make some lunch," May said. She kissed your cheek and you took Peter to his room.
---
The day was full of fun. You and Peter finished the Lego set and after lunch, the three of you played board games until it was time for Peter to go to bed. He fought sleep until he fell asleep mid-sentence. You carried him to his room and tucked him in. After that, you walked back into the living room.
"How long will you be staying?" May asked as she handed you a cup of tea.
"As long as you'll have me. My boss told me I don't have to come back for a while."
"He's missed you, you know."
"I know. I wanted to see the two of you more, but it's too dangerous with my line of work."
"What exactly is your line of work?"
"I work for SHIELD. I'm a spy. Just like Mom and Dad were."
"Your parents were spies?"
"Yeah. Scientists too. The reason why I have these powers is because of them. Experiments went wrong and they gave me these powers," you said.
"That's not good. Why did they–"
"Do experiments with me in the room? I don't know. I barely remember it as it is," you said with a shrug.
"Are they actually dead?" May asked quietly.
"As far as I know, yes."
"I'm sorry you found out this way. I wanted to tell you, I really did, but work kept me busy." You looked at May. "If you see anything fishy, anything at all, call me. One of my co-workers has a family, I can get you to a safe place, no questions asked."
"I will, I promise."
"Thank you."
"Let me get you some blankets." May said. "The couch isn't the comfiest, but I don't have a guest bed for you."
"That's alright. Thank you."
After May gave you the blankets, she went to bed. You tried to get as comfortable as possible and soon you were asleep.

A-Aftercare
Tormund is the god of aftercare
He always cleans you up, whether that’s with a rag or with his tongue, he never lets you stay dirty for long
Up past the wall there’s never any guarantee that you’d be near a hot spring but if there is, you can count on him carrying you to one and taking care of you
B-Body Part
Tormund’s favorite body part of yours is definitely your cunt
He can stay in between your legs forever and never want to leave. He’ll use his tongue, fingers, or his cock to make you scream, a smirk never leaving his face
His favorite body part of his would be his cock. The way that it splits you open and makes your mouth make a perfect ‘O’ shape just drives him crazy. He loves that it takes you a couple seconds for you to start moving after his cock is fully in you and that it always manages to take your breath away
C-Cum
Tormund loves to cum inside you, but he’s not super picky
Your thighs, chest, mouth, face, and stomach are all good to him. It’s all up to you where he cums and he’ll gladly follow your lead on that
D-Dirty Secret
Tormund doesn’t keep any dirty secrets from you
If something turns him on, he always tells you, eager to try it if you want to
He does, however, love watching his cum spill out of your cunt and drip from the corner of your mouth
E-Experience
Tormund has a lot of experience
Wildlings are not the kind of people to shy away from pleasure so the both of you have had many partners before
F-Favorite Position
Tormund’s absolute favorite position is when you’re sitting on his lap and the two of you are chest to chest
He has access to your breasts and your ass and it is easy to kiss you in this position
He loves to take handfuls of your ass as you ride him, his hands helping your movements stay steady
G-Goofy
Tormund can definitely be goofy in bed
Having sex is a way to have fun and get pleasure. To him it’s not supposed to be a super serious thing and he never understands why some others won’t laugh at the funny noises and crack a couple of jokes in the middle of sex
H-Hair
Tormund doesn’t shave at all
He doesn’t care if his partners like it or not, he prefers to have a full bush so that’s what he has
He also doesn’t have a preference on whether or not you shave. It makes no difference to him. A cunt is a cunt and even if there’s hair, it’s still warm and wet
I-Intimacy
Tormund can be very intimate if he chooses to be
He’s a very passionate person and that translates very well to his sex life
J-Jack Off
Tormund will masturbate if you aren’t around and he wants to get off
He knows that full-blown sex isn’t always going to happen and he doesn’t care if he has to use his hand instead of your pussy
K-Kink
Tormund has a pretty big breeding kink
He absolutely loves the idea of putting babies into you and seeing them suck milk from your breasts
Every single time you allow him to cum inside of you, the thought of you getting pregnant makes him cum almost immediately
L-Location
Anywhere. This man will fuck you anywhere
Against a wall, on the ground, on a bed. All he wants is that warm, wet cunt wrapped around his dick and he is a happy man
M-Motivation
It doesn’t take a lot to get Tormund going
He’ll get hard if he sees you beat someone in a fight or if he sees you helping with the children
Hell, even if you’re just walking in front of him and he sees the sway of your hips, he’s ready to take you right then and there
N-No
Anything you’re not willing to do, he won’t do
Tormund would never push you to do something that you’re uncomfortable with, even if he really wanted to try it with you
He also doesn’t want to use any toys during sex, prefering to just use himself to get you off
O-Oral
Tormund loves receiving oral, but he loves giving it even more
That man could spend hours with his lips all over your pussy before he even thinks about fucking you with his cock
P-Pace
Tormund can go hard and fast, or soft and slow. It all depends on what you want and what the mood of that day was
Sometimes he wants to fuck you until you can’t remember your own name
But other times he wants to worship you and make your legs shake as you come undone
Q-Quickies
Tormund is 50/50 on quickies
He understands that sometimes there just isn’t enough time for a full session of sex and he’ll take what he can get
He prefers to have the time where he can fuck you properly, but he’ll never say no to a quickie
R-Risks
Tormund has never cared whether or not the two of you get caught having sex
The only time he’ll make sure to watch his surroundings is if there’s children around
Even though the Wildlings don’t shy away from sex, it’s still inappropriate to do anything with children near
S-Stamina
Tormund has stamina for days
He can go for hours and still have enough stamina left to make sure you get taken care of afterwards
It might take him a little while before he’s up to round two, but you always know that you’ll be taken care of during and after having sex
T-Toy
Tormund isn’t the biggest fan of toys
Up past the wall, there weren’t any toys and when he found out about them down south, he didn’t want to give them a try
To him, if he couldn’t have sex with you, he could always use his hand and the same applied to you
If you wanted to use one on yourself, he wouldn’t say no. But he wouldn’t use one during sex
U-Unfair
Tormund isn’t too big of a tease, but if you had been pissing him off or tempting him earlier, he’d definitely get back at you in bed
He’d edge you until it hurt and then he’d give you want you wanted
If he’s feeling a little extra mean, he’ll take what he wants and leave you wanting until you go begging for him to fuck you properly
V-Volume
This man is loud and he doesn’t give two fucks about it
He’s always been loud and vocal in bed, wanting you to know exactly what he’s feeling in that moment
He’ll praise you as the two of you fuck, letting out groans and grunts as he pounds into you
One time, you even heard him whimper as you were sucking his dick and you’ve always wanted to hear it again
X-XRay
Tormund’s cock is pretty decent
His cock is six inches and girthy
When you first saw it, you didn’t know if it would even fit but you soon learned that you could
Y-Yearning
Tormund has a pretty high sex drive and it doesn’t take a lot to get him going
Just shake your ass or tell him up front that you want to fuck and that man will have your pants around your ankles and his cock inside of you before you could even blink
Z-ZZZ
Tormund doesn’t fall asleep right after sex
If it’s late or you can’t/don’t want to go another round, he’ll hold you as you both relax
Once you’re asleep, he’ll relax even more, pulling you close and holding you as he closes his eyes

YN
The sickness started subtly. At first it was just a scratchy throat and a stuffy nose, normal symptoms of your allergies. Then the cough and fever came. Sam found you suffering in your cell and immediately freaked out.
“YN!” He cried, rushing forward.
“S-Sammy,” you croaked. “Stay a-away.”
Sam didn’t listen to you, picking you up gently. You could barely move your body and were secretly thankful that he was holding you.
“You have to get to A-Block. You’ll be able to get help there.”
Carefully, Sam walked down the stairs, you curled into his chest. That’s when Dean saw the two of you. He started to run towards you, but Rick stopped him.
“You have to stay away, Dean,” Rick said. “Sam and Dr. S. will be able to help her.”
Dean struggled against Rick’s hold and you picked your head up to wearily look at your big brother.
“I’ll be fine, Dean. You just watch the girls. Make sure they’re okay,” you said softly. A string of coughs wracked your body and Sam held you tighter.
“I’ll take her to A-Block. Dr. S. wanted me to help out anyways so Hershel doesn’t have to expose himself.”
“Take care of her, Sammy,” Dean said.
“I will.”
“See ya later, Dean,” you said before tucking your head back into Sam’s shoulder.
“See you, sweetheart.” Dean watched worriedly as Sam carried you towards A-Block and when you were out of sight, he turned to Rick.
“Have you figured out who killed Karen and David yet?” Dean asked Rick.
“No,” Rick said with a shake of his head.
“I know Sam’s in there with her, but you need to keep an eye on everyone. Just in case whoever killed them tries again. I want them nowhere near [y/n].”
“I will. Are you going on the run?”
“I am.”
---
Everything hurt. Your head was pounding, body trembling, throat sore. You couldn’t move your body without immense effort so trying to help Dr. S and your brother was out of the question. All you could do was huddle underneath a blanket and try to keep warm. You were floating in and out of consciousness, not sure what was real and what was fiction.
Sam had come in and told you that both Glenn and Sasha were sick too. He was carrying a cup of steaming liquid and made you drink it. It was bitter and gross, but you knew better than to argue.
“Dean. Is Dean okay?” You asked after clearing your throat.
“He’s fine. He came by before they left on the run. Told me to tell you that he’ll be back before you knew it and that you’re going to be okay,” Sam said.
“Good.” You started coughing, angling your body away from Sam. When you were done, you looked up at your little brother.
“I need you to promise me something,” you said.
“YN, no.” Sam shook his head. You coughed again. “We’re not going there. You’re going to be fine.”
“Sammy, this isn’t up for debate. If-If I die, don’t you dare let me turn,” you said.
“YN—“
“Sam!”
Sam looked at you with wide eyes and you leaned back into your pillows.
“I mean it, Sammy. I don’t want to become one of those-those things.” Another coughing fit hit you and when you pulled back from your pillow, you saw blood.
Sam stared at the blood and you flipped the pillow over before falling back into it with a groan.
“And give me a hunter’s funeral. Do it in the woods far away from the prison and make it big. A-Attract walkers and let me kill some even when I’m gone. And made sure Ada stays safe. Tell her that I love her so much and she’s gonna grow up and kick this worlds ass.”
Sam let a small laugh escape before it turned into a sob.
“You’re not gonna die. Not on my watch.” Sam leaned over you and kissed your forehead before walking out of your cell. Eyes slipping closed, you were asleep in seconds.
---
Dean
Walking into the room with all the meds, Dean quickly made his way over to the cabinets. He threw them open and looked at Bob.
“Which ones do we take?” He asked.
“Anything ending with cillin or cin. C-I-N. Grab those.”
Dean didn’t need any more information and started rifling through the meds. Once he cleared out his zone, he turned to Michonne. She gave him a reassuring look.
“She’ll be fine, Dean. They all will,” Michonne said.
“I hope you’re right.”
When Daryl and Tyreese came back from getting the stuff on their list, the five of them started to make their way back outside. Running into some walkers with the same trails of blood on their face made things difficult and they had to jump out of a window to escape them. That’s when they found out Bob just had a bottle of booze in his bag.
“You ain’t got no meds? Just this?” Daryl held up the bottle and Bob started breathing hard. “You should’a kept walkin’ that day.”
“We’re out here, getting medicine for sick people and the only thing you can think of is yourself?” Dean said, seething. He took a few steps toward Bob and poked him in the chest with his finger. “My sister could be dead because of you. You better hope that she isn’t or you’re gonna be the one paying the price.”
Michonne pulled him back gently and Dean let her, clenching and unclenching his fists to help him with his anger. Daryl went to throw the bottle and when Bob put his hand on his gun, Daryl stalked closer until their foreheads were touching. He pulled Bob’s gun out of the holster and grabbed the front of his vest when Tyreese tried to interject.
“Just let it go, Daryl,” Ty said.
“I didn’t want to hurt nobody,” Bob said, voice shaky.
“Take one sip. When we get these meds inta our people, I will beat your ass inta the ground,” Daryl growled, shoving the bottle into Bob’s chest.
He walked away and picked up his crossbow. Bob looked at them walking away and when he met Dean’s eyes, he quickly looked away, not able to handle the death glare he was getting.
---
The ride back to the prison was silent. Dean and Daryl were still pissed about what Bob did and if either of them opened their mouths, a fight would start. So everyone stayed silent.
When the prison fences came into view, it was dark. Carl opened up the gates and when Michonne pulled up, Dean didn’t even wait for the van to stop moving before jumping out and running towards A-Block, Tyreese right behind him. When he got there, you were lying on your bed, fast asleep.
“Dean, what are you doing here?” Sam said. He had turned around to go help some of the others when he saw Dean standing there.
“How’s she doing?” Dean asked, ignoring Sam.
“Better. You get the meds?”
“We did. They should be bringing them in here now.” Dean looked at Sam and frowned. “What the hell happened to you? You got blood all over you.”
“Some people died and managed to get out of their cells after they turned,” Sam said.
---
Sam
After Sam had that talk with you, he walked over to Hershel where he was holding an I.V. for an unconscious Sasha.
“She’s coughing up blood,” Sam whispered.
“Are any of the other symptoms worsening?” Hershel asked.
“I don’t think so.”
“Alright. I’ll get an I.V. set up for her. Caleb made a few.” Hershel looked around. “I don’t think he’s got much time left.”
“I can get it,” Sam said.
“No, I got it. You stay here and hold this up. Sasha’s just dehydrated and should wake up in a minute.”
“Alright.” Sam took the bag from Hershel and sat down on the bed.
Hershel walked over to you and quickly set up an I.V. in your arm before hanging it up. He checked your pulse and gave you a quick look over before walking out of your cell, closing the door behind him.
“Hershel!” Lizzie yelled. His head snapped up to where Lizzie was standing and then was distracted by a walker coming at him. It tackled him to the ground, Hershel barely keeping its snapping jaws away from him.
A man came out of a cell, gun in hand. He was trying to aim and while he was concentrating, a walker came up behind him, making him misfire the gun and shoot a woman in the stomach. That got Sam’s attention and he rushed out of Sasha’s cell, his own weapons out.
“What the hell?” Sam said, skidding to a stop. Quickly, he stabbed the two walkers and the man who had been bitten and died. Then his head turned to where he saw Lizzie pinned to the ground, a walker on top of her.
“Lizzie!”
The two men came running to where she was and Hershel threw the walker over the rail.
“Are you okay?” Hershel asked her.
“I called him nice. He didn’t hurt Glenn so I thought that maybe he listens,” she whimpered.
“Where is Glenn?”
“His cell.”
Sam ran over to Glenn while Hershel took Lizzie over to a cell. Looking at the little boy already in there, he closed the door.
“You two stay put. Do not come out,” he said. Hershel ran over to Glenn as fast as he could and saw Sam checking his pulse.
“Hang in there, Glenn,” Sam said. He looked at Hershel. “He seems stable for now but I don’t know for how much longer.”
“We need the guns.”
Hershel stood up and ran over to Dr. S’s cell to grab the guns, only to find that he had died. After he stabbed Dr. S. in the head and grabbed the guns, Hershel went to shoot the remaining walkers. He couldn’t bring himself to do it while the kids were watching so he lured them away before shooting them. After that was done, Hershel came back to where Sam and Glenn where.
Glenn was wheezing and Sam had him on his side. Blood was coming out of Glenn’s mouth and Hershel thumped his back, trying to help him get all the fluid out.
“We need the respirator,” Hershel said.
“Where is it?”
“On Henry.” The two men exchanged a look and Sam got up.
“You stay here with Glenn and I’ll got get the respirator.” Sam gave no room for Hershel to argue and Sam was running to where Hershel threw him over the railing.
Taking a breath, Sam jumped the railing and began wrestling with the walker, trying to get the respirator off of its face. A gunshot sounded bellow him, but Sam paid no mind. All of his attention was on the walker.
“Sam!” Maggie yelled. She raised her gun and was about to shoot when Hershel called out.
“No! You could shoot the bag and we need it for Glenn!” Hershel said.
Maggie ignored him and shot anyways, hitting the walker straight in the head. Sam sat up and ripped the respirator off of Henry’s face and threw it to Hershel. Hershel took it to Glenn and Maggie was quick to go up the stairs. She almost stopped to ask Sam how you were doing, but Sam pushed her to her husband, following close behind.
“Sam, we got this, you check on everyone else,” Hershel said. Sam nodded and quickly made his way to check on everyone, making you his last stop. He let out a sob of relief when he saw that you were okay and still alive.
---
Dean and Sam
“So YN’s okay and so are Glenn and Sasha,” Dean said to Sam.
“Yeah. They’re all pretty bad, but it looks like they’ll all be okay. Glenn seemed to have been hit the worst,” Sam said, brushing some of your hair away from your face. “Now that they’ve all gotten medicine, they should be good to go in a couple days.”
“Good.”
“Dean, YN thought she was gonna die,” Sam said after a moment. “Told me what she wanted me to do when it happened and everything. I told her that she wasn’t going to die. But she came close, I know she did.”
“She’s a tough son of a bitch, Sammy. She ain’t dying. Not like this.”
---
[Y/n]
The next day came around and you felt immensely better. Not enough to go immediately go back to what you were doing, but enough to walk around a bit. Both of your brothers had left a few minutes ago, you having been fed up with their constant hovering. But of course, nothing was going right.
You had just gotten back to your cell when a boom shook the building. Walking as fast as you could, you got outside just in time to see the Governor cut into Hershel’s neck with Michonne’s sword. Stumbling backwards, you fell against the wall behind you in shock. The gunfire started soon after and you started walking forward.
“Dean, Sammy!” You called.
“YN!” Your brothers came running up to you and you collapsed in Sam’s arms. Dean was holding Charlotte.
“H-Hershel,” you said. Tears were in your eyes and you sniffed as Sam held you tighter. “Where’s Adeline and Sophia? We need to find them!”
“We’ll find them, don’t worry,” Dean said. “But we have to get to the Impala.”
“Alright.”
“I’m gonna get Baby started up and we’ll follow the bus as planned,” Dean said. “Can you hold Lottie while I do that?”
You nodded and took your daughter from Dean.
“I’ll get the stuff from the shed. Meet you back here in five.” Sam kissed your head and ran off.
“I’m gonna get my pack from my cell. I’ll be right back,” you said, giving Dean no time to argue.
“YN!” He called after you. Cursing, he ran to the Impala and found it riddled with bullet holes. When he tried to start it, the engine didn’t make a sound.
“Fuck!” He yelled. Opening the trunk, Dean grabbed what he could, stuffing it in a duffle before grabbing his gun and shooting at the people who attacked his home.
“Dean!” Sam yelled, running up with a bag of his own.
“Car’s been shot! Can’t drive it.” The two of them ducked down when the tank fired again and Sam looked at Dean.
“Where’s YN?” Sam asked.
“She went to get her bag.”
“What the hell Dean! She can barely walk right now!”
“You think I don’t know that? I wouldn’t have been able to stop her and you know it! Now let’s grab her and get the hell out of here!” They got up and started running towards C-Block when the doorway exploded.
---
You were running as fast as you could to get to your cell. Skidding to a stop, you set Charlotte on the bunk and grabbed what you could, stuffing it into a bag. There was hunting gear, some clothes, a few spare knives, and a box of protein bars. You put on the sling for Lottie before putting her in it and heaving your bag over your shoulders. You made your way back outside and ran into Maggie.
“Beth! Have you seen Beth?” She asked you. You shook her head and asked her about Sophia and Adeline. She hadn’t seen them and the two of you ran over to where Sasha and Bob were.
Maggie asked Sasha if she’d seen Beth and the answer was the same as yours. Then Bob got shot. After checking for an exit wound and finding one, you guys looked up to see the bus leaving.
“We need to get to Dean’s car!” You said. “We were supposed to follow the bus and that’s where they said they’d be.”
The four of you made your way to the Impala, only to find it riddled with holes and your brothers nowhere to be found. You let out a whimper but managed to check the trunk. Seeing it empty, you looked back at your family.
“They’re alive,” you said.
“How do you know?” Bob asked.
“The trunk’s cleaned out. They probably went looking for me.”
“We gotta go.”
Taking one last look at the car, you shifted the bag on your shoulders and started running after Maggie. You’d find them again.

Katniss and Peeta were led to the rooms where they'd be able to say goodbye to their friends and family and you made your way with Bennett to Hazelle and the kids.
"Hey," you said softly. Hazelle looked at you with teary eyes.
"Hey, sweetheart."
"Have you seen her yet?"
"No," Hazelle said with a shake of her head. "They only let Gale go."
"Really? I'll tell her for you."
"Mama, are you leaving now?" Bennett asked, squeezing your hand.
"I am. I'll be home soon, though. You be good for Hazelle, okay?"
"Okay. I love you, mama."
"I love you too, baby." You hugged and kissed your son before saying bye to everyone else.
Walking away, you saw Gale get pulled out of Katniss's room. It broke your heart to see him like this, sad and terrified for his best friend.
"Gale," you said. He turned and said your name before walking over and engulfing you in a hug.
"You have to help her, please," Gale muttered into the top of your head.
"I will do everything I can," you said.
"Promise me."
"I can't do that, Gale." You shook your head.
"I can't lose her. I can't." You could feel Gale starting to shake and you squeezed him tighter.
"I'll do what I can," you whispered.
Gale nodded and stepped back. He wiped the tears from his face and gave him a sad smile.
"I'm sorry."
A peacekeeper called your name as they came towards you and Gale.
"It's time to leave," they said.
"Alright," you said. You looked at Gale, "I'll see you soon."
He just nodded and watched as you left with the peacekeeper.
---
The kids were already on the train when you got on and you went straight to your room. They were most likely overwhelmed and you didn't want to upset them further by pouncing on them and talking about the games. You only left your room when your stomach was growling and made your way to the dining car. That's where you ran into Katniss.
"Hey," you said. "Have you eaten yet?"
"No."
"Come. You need to keep your strength up." You held out your hand and Katniss took it.
"They all look so fancy," she said.
"I'd say you get used to it, but I'd be lying." You made a plate for you and Katniss before sitting down at a table.
"I'm sorry you're here," you said after a moment. "I can't promise anything, but I'm going to do what I can to help both of you."
"I'm scared. I promised Prim that nothing bad was going to happen and now I'm on my way to the Capitol."
"No matter what, your family will be taken care of. There's not a lot I can do, but what I can do, I will. That I can promise you." You took her hand and squeezed it.
"How did you win the Games?" Katniss asked you.
"During training, I found out I was good with knives. I'm also very quiet. So I sneak around and if I came across another Tribute, I'd attack them."
"Did you seek them out?"
"No. It was only if we crossed paths." You took a breath. "I felt like I was losing a piece of me every time I did and I still have nightmares."
"Do they affect Bennett?"
"No. He sleeps like a rock, nothing can wake him up except himself. I'm thankful for that."
The two of you fell into a comfortable silence as you ate. Katniss finished her plate and you encouraged her to get more. When she was done, she left to her room. You watched her go and when you were done, you went to Haymitch's room.
"Haymitch, open up," you said, knocking on his door. It took a minute, but you heard a crash and a curse before the door opened.
"To what do I owe the pleasure?" Haymitch said.
"You really need to cut down on the drinking," you said, your nose wrinkling in disgust.
"And you need to be less cheerful. I saw the interview from earlier today."
"You of all people should know that I can't." You glared at him and he shook his head.
"I'm sorry."
"We need to start thinking of ways to help these kids. With Katniss volunteering for her sister, she has some chance to get sponsors. You know they love that shit."
"Yes they do. Peeta also has a sort of charm to him. I can tell that he'll be a hit with the ladies."
"I can ask Tigress when we get to the Capitol. We're friends and work well together so she'll most likely help. If Peeta is as charming as you think, there's a few more people who'll support him."
"So we're in agreement that Katniss is going to need more help, yes?"
"Yes."
- - -
The next morning you had gone to breakfast, not really ready for the day. Peeta was already there and you gave him a smile as you sat down.
“Good morning,” Peeta said.
“Good morning. How did you sleep?” You asked him.
“I, uh, didn’t really sleep.”
“That’s okay. It’ll get easier to sleep as the week goes on.” You fixed a plate for yourself before looking at Peeta. “I told Katniss this and I’ll tell you as well. Although I can’t promise you anything, I’m going to do whatever I can to help you. Both of you.”
“Thank you,” Peeta said. “Can we talk about it now?”
“Of course. What do you want to know?”
Right then, Haymitch walked in and sat next to you at the table. You could tell that he was hungover, as usual. Peeta either didn’t notice or didn’t care and he started asking questions about the games. You answered to the best of your ability, Haymitch sometimes chiming in. When Katniss walked into the room, you smiled at her.
“That’s a good way to get killed,” Haymitch said to Peeta, already done with the conversation.
“What’s a good way to get killed?” Katniss asked.
“Oh, joy. Why don’t you join us?” Haymitch said. You elbowed him and waved Katniss over.
“He was just giving some life saving advice,” you said.
“Like what?”
“I was just asking about shelter,” Peeta said.
“That would only be handy if you were in fact still alive,” Haymitch said snarkily.
“How do you find shelter?” Katniss asked.
“Can you pass the jam?”
“How do you find shelter?” Katniss repeated.
“Give us a chance to wake up, sweetheart. This mentoring is pretty taxing stuff,” Haymitch said as he poured alcohol into his coffee.
You just rolled your eyes and put another bite of food in your mouth. Haymitch asked for the jam again and Katniss stopped him by stabbing the table with her knife. Peeta watched with wide eyes and Effie gasped as Katniss and Haymitch stared at each other.
“That is mahogany!” Effie said, appalled that Katniss would do such a thing.
“Look at you. You just killed a placemat,” Haymitch said. He plucked the knife out of the table and looked at you. You shrugged and kept eating your food.
“You really want to know how to stay alive?” Haymitch asked them. The kids nodded and Haymitch leaned back.
“You have to get people to like you,” you said. Both of the kids looked confused and you nodded. “Not what you were expecting, was it?”
“No,” Peeta said.
“Well, when you’re in the middle of the games and you’re starving or freezing, some water or a knife, even matches could be the difference between life and death,” Haymitch said. “Those things can only come from sponsors. And the only way to get sponsors is to make people like you.”
“There it is,” Peeta said. He got up and ran to the window to see the Capitol. “It’s huge. Incredible.”
When you came out of the tunnel, you took a breath and put down your fork. Peeta was waving at the people of the Capitol,  a smile on his face. You could hear them calling Peeta’s name and he tried to get Katniss to join him.
“You better keep this knife. He knows what he’s doing,” Haymitch said to Katniss.

Daryl x Reader - Changed
Title: Changed
Words: 2,508
Warnings: Swearing, pregnancy and birth(not explicit and not reader), canon-typical violence, death(no one important)
A/N: This takes place during the wolves and the herd in Alexandria. Daryl and reader have an established relationship but it's not really the focus of this fic. I have another fic in the works with Daryl's POV to this and can't wait to share it with you. Hope you enjoy!
~~~
You never thought that you'd ever see any of your family again. They were in your home state, Virginia, and you had gone to Georgia State university. But everything happened, you were luckily with your best friend Glenn and the rest was history. So when you had gotten to Alexandria, you were shocked to see your entire family still alive.
"Mom? Dad?" You said in shock. They said your name and you ran towards them. The three of you hugged until you heard your big brother's voice.
"Max?!" Your brother caught you when you leapt into his arms. You were full on sobbing now, Max rubbing your back soothingly.
"I thought I'd never see you again," you said when Max set you down.
"I'm so happy you're safe, darling," your mom said. She patted your cheek and you smiled at her.
"Have you been here this whole time?" You asked them.
"For the most part, yeah," Max said.
"We have to put up the walls," your dad said. "It's safe and now I have you home."
---
A lot happened in the next few weeks.
You met your brother's wife, Skylar, who was visibly pregnant. She was nice and a good addition to the family. The job Deanna had given you was fantastic and right up your field. You were Alexandria's resident mechanic. The one they had was working out of a manual and had died two months before your group had arrived. It was the perfect job for you.
Then Rick found the quarry and the wolves attacked.
You were in your garage, fixing one of the cars that the runners used when you heard screaming. Immediately, you rolled out from under the car and grabbed the biggest wrench you saw. You were worried that walkers had somehow gotten inside when you saw a person you never seen before brutally kill a resident of Alexandria. Then he saw you.
"Fuck," you muttered to yourself.
The man started running towards you and you readied the wrench in your hands. He swung his axe at you and you ducked, hitting his kidneys when he passed you. He fell to the floor in pain and you whacked him in the head, hitting him over and over until he was a bloody mess. You only stopped when you knew he was dead.
You're about to grab his axe when you heard your name said. You turned to see Max standing there in shock.
"Where's mom and dad?" You asked him. He just stared at you as you grabbed your knife and gun out of one of your tool boxes and strapped them to your thighs.
"Max! Where are mom and dad?!"
"They're-They're at home," he managed to say.
"Come on. We have to get to them."
Max looked at you and you grabbed his hand, dragging him with you. You stuck to the sides of the houses, not wanting these people to see you. When one of them came towards you, you shot them in the head with deadly accuracy. You saw Max jump at the noise and a strange sound came from his mouth. You ignored it and took his hand again, leading him away.
"Where are we going? The house is that way," Max said.
"I'm dropping you off somewhere," you said. Max protested but you shut him up with a look. "I'm not taking you with me. You can't defend yourself and I move faster without you."
When you got to one of the houses Deanna had given your group, you signaled Max to be quiet. Taking a breath you whistled and desperately waited to get one back. When you heard it, you were relieved. Enid opened the door and you saw Carl standing in the middle of the room.
"Oh thank God you're okay," you said to him. "Is Judith okay? Where's Carol?"
"Judith's fine. Carol's out there," Carl said.
"I'm going to get my parents. Watch Max for me. I love you both." With that, you ran out the door.
Max called out for you and tried to leave but Carl stopped him.
"She knows what she's doing. She'll be okay, trust me." Carl handed Max his knife. "You need to stay here and help us protect Judith."
Max took the knife with shaky fingers and sat down on the floor.
---
You ran into two more people on the way to your parents house. They were swiftly dealt with but when you got to their house, the door was wide open.
"No," you muttered to yourself.
You put your gun away and took out your knife. The lower level was clear and when you started climbing the stairs, you heard a thump. You quickened your pace and called out softly.
"Mom? Dad?"
Your mom said your name and you rushed into their bedroom.
"What's going on?" Your mom said.
"People got inside and are killing others," you said. "Max is safe, don't worry. Where's Skyler?"
"She's with Denise having a check up." Your dad looked at you. "Honey, you're covered in blood."
"It's not mine, don't worry." You missed the look your parents gave you, an air horn going off. "We have to leave. Now."
"Behind you!" Your mom cried.
You turned and saw a woman running full speed towards you, a knife in her hands. You drew your gun and shot at her. She moved at the last second and you hit her in the shoulder instead of the head.
"Fuck!" She yelled, stumbling back. She hit the wall and barely had time to look at you before you shot her right between the eyes.
"Fuck off," you said.
"You-You killed her," your dad said.
"It was her or us. Now, come on."
You checked your gun before leading your parents to safety. The three of you had just gotten to the infirmary when the air horn shut off.
"Skylar!" You yelled.
"In here!"
Skylar was in the back room and you were relieved to see her okay.
"Max is safe. I need to get back out there," you said.
"No. You can't leave," your mom said. "It's too dangerous."
"I need to help other people. You'll be safe here, I'll be back soon."
"I got them," Tara said.
"Thank you." With that, you left the infirmary.
---
You got back to the house in time to see Ron being chased. Carl shot the man in the leg and when he tried to take the gun from Carl, you shot him in the chest.
"Are you two alright?" You asked them.
"Yeah," Carl said. He turned to Ron. "Come inside. We can keep you safe."
"No," Ron said before running off. You called after him, but he ignored you.
"Shit," you said. Enid called for you and Carl and the two of you went inside, locking the door behind you.
"Where are mom and dad?" Max asked you.
"They're safe. Skylar too."
Max let out a relieved laugh and gave you a hug. You squeezed him back before letting go.
"I need to go help our people," you said.
"What? But you're safe here."
"We are, but others aren't. I need to go get others to safety. You stay here with Carl and Enid. I'll be back when this is over."
—---
Sitting down, you took a deep breath. The wolves were gone but there was now a giant herd outside the walls. Rick had barely made it inside and while you were happy to see him alive and well, some of the others hadn't made it back yet. Glenn, Abraham, Sasha. Daryl. You were worried about them being stuck outside and about the walkers. You also had a feeling that your family was going to talk to you about what had happened today.
Your suspicions were confirmed when your mom asked you to come by the house for dinner.
"Sweetie, your father and I are worried about you," your mom said when you sat down at the table.
"Why?"
"Well," she said. She glanced at you. "You killed people today."
"I know." You took a bite of your food, not looking at anyone.
"Why are you so dismissive of it?" Max asked you. "You took lives today!"
"I gave them clean deaths, unlike what they were doing to our people. Or what walkers would have done to them."
"You've changed," Max said sadly. "The little sister I knew wouldn't ever think of taking a life."
You slammed your fork down onto the table and everyone jumped.
"Do you know what I have seen? What I've gone through? No!" You got up, chair scraping the floor. "I've seen children die in front of me. I've seen people that I love and care for die in horrible ways because of other groups. My best friend and boyfriend were almost killed and eaten by cannibals! One of us actually was eaten by them! I have lost home after home, person after person and I will do anything to make sure that never happens again!"
You took a deep breath and looked at the shocked faces of your family.
"The girl you knew is gone. I'm not the same person from before and she's never coming back. I'd be dead right now if she was."
Your mom started saying your name, but you had your hand up.
"Don't. I've killed people to keep my family alive. You don't have to kill anyone or be happy about it. I'm not. But you have to accept that sometimes it's the only way." You looked around the table. "Thank you for the food, but I have to go. Guard duty starts in ten."
You left the house and walked to the front gate. After relieving the person on duty, you sat down on the chair with a huff, gun on your lap. You sat in silence for a few minutes until you heard someone climbing the ladder. Looking down, you saw your dad.
"Hey," he said.
"Hi. What're you doing here?"
"I haven't seen it yet." Your dad looked out at the dead. "It smells terrible."
"You get used to it. I can't even really smell them anymore unless they're particularly ripe."
Your dad laughed and you cracked a half smile. The two of you were quiet for a moment before your dad broke it.
"I'm sorry you've been through so much. Can you tell me about it? You haven't really said anything about what had happened."
You told him everything. The Atlanta camp, the farm, and the prison. The people you had lost and the people you had killed. Terminus, the hospital. Beth. You sniffed and looked at your dad.
"I remember every life I've ever taken, even if I don't know their names. Their faces are seared in my head. That's how I live with it."
"How many does today make?"
"Sixteen."
"I want you to know that you're still my little girl. You may think that she's gone, but she isn't. She's only grown stronger and I couldn't be prouder."
"Thank you." Your dad hugged you and you wiped a tear from your face.
"I love you, sweetheart. Don't you forget it."
—---
When the walls came down you were with your sister-in-law in the infirmary. She was having her baby and you were worried about her. You were helping with the delivery of the baby, Hershel having taught you some things to help with Lori. Denise was nowhere to be found so you were on your own.
Max and your parents were worried for Skylar and the situation outside wasn't helping. Aaron and Heath were making sure nothing got inside while Max was by Skylar's side. There was nothing to worry about, however. Skylar gave birth to a perfectly healthy baby boy and both of them were going to be okay. You just finished cleaning the baby when Denise came through the door.
"How're my patients?" She asked.
"They're doing well. We moved them upstairs just in case," Heath said.
"Skylar just had her baby," Aaron said. "She's fine. Baby too."
"Who helped her?"
"I did," you said, coming down the stairs.
"Have you ever done that before?" Denise asked you.
"No, but I was taught what to do. Maggie's dad taught me for when Judith came."
"There's people coming," Aaron said as he looked out the window.
"It's the kid. Is he bit?"
"Carl?" You moved the curtains and your eyes widened when you saw Rick carrying a lifeless Carl, Michonne clearing their way to the infirmary.
Rick brought Carl in and you covered your mouth in shock. He had been shot in the eye and there was a lot of blood.
"Oh my god," you said.
"Please save him," Rick said after he said Carl down on the gurney. Michonne took the blood-soaked sheet off of Rick and when you saw the look in his eyes, you knew that he wasn't okay. When he drew his hatchet, it clicked.
"No, Rick. You need to stay here," you said. He didn't listen to you or Michelle as he flung open the door and walked outside.
"Shit," you said. You grabbed your knife and immediately followed Rick. You heard your dad call out to you, but you ignored him. Keeping Rick alive was your priority.
The other joined you quickly, Aaron taking down a walker right behind you. You all fought, more and more people joining you. A lot of walkers were taken down, but you were starting to be backed into the corner. You were also starting to get tired. So when the lake was suddenly engulfed in flames and the walkers started to make their way towards it, you felt yourself get a surge of energy.
No one knew for sure who started the fire, but you were hoping it was Daryl. You had been constantly worried about the people who were stuck outside the walls. Pushing those thoughts aside, you focused on the task at hand. Kill the walkers and take back your home.
—---
When all the walkers were dead, you allowed yourself to breathe. Leaning against the side of a house, Aaron patted your shoulder. You gave him a smile and squeezed his arm. Then you heard your name be called. Turning, you saw Daryl running towards you.
"Oh my god," you said. Pushing off of the house, you leapt into his arms.
"Are you okay? You bit?" Daryl said, frantically searching you for injuries.
"I'm fine. I promise." You notice the blood dripping down his arm. "You're not. Come on, let's get you all fixed up."
You stay with Daryl as Denise stitched up his shoulder, telling him what had happened while they were gone. He also told you what had happened to them and you set your head on his good shoulder, squeezing his hand.
"We're okay. Carl's going to live and Skylar's okay," you whispered. "You've come back and that's all that matters."
You looked at Daryl. "I love you."
He kissed you softly and pressed his forehead to yours. "I love you too."
Being an agent of shield wasn't a bad job. It had its ups and downs, like any other job, but it was really cool when you could do the things you could do. Shapeshifting, controlling water, and flying were good skills to have when you were a spy. The downsides were when your friends got taken by the enemy.
"Barton's been compromised," Fury said.
"What? When?"
"Couple hours ago. I need you on the carrier. How fast can you be here?"
"Five hours. I'm on my way." You hung up the phone and took off into the sky, the mission you were on gone from your mind.
Fury hadn't said much on the phone and your mind was running in circles. Whatever was happening wasn't good at all. Shaking your head, you pushed yourself faster and made it to the carrier in three hours. Landing on deck, you made your way to the bridge.
"What happened?" You said when you saw Fury.
"Loki happened."
"Loki? Like Norse mythology?"
"Yes. He has a spear that controlled the mind of Barton and Selvig. It turned them against us."
"A magic spear brainwashed two of the smartest people I know? What are we doing about it? Do we know anything else?"
"Agent Romanoff is on her way with Bruce Banner and Agent Coulson is with Steve Rogers," Fury said, looking at the screen in front of him.
"The Hulk and Captain America?" You scoffed. "Sir, one of them turns into a rage machine and the other is misplaced in this time. What can they do to help?"
"I told you what I wanted you to be a part of. They're a part of it." Fury gave you a look and you sighed before going and sitting at the table and pulling up the file searching for Clint.
It didn't take long before Nat came to the bridge with Rogers and Banner in tow. The carrier was in the air and you were listening to the hustle and bustle around you.
"Dr. Banner," Fury said. " You've already met Agent Romanoff. This is Agent Porter."
"Nice to meet you," you said, getting up and shaking his hand.
"Likewise, Agent Porter." He looked at you. "Are you a spy too? Like Romanoff?"
"Yes and no," you said.
"Agent Porter here has abilities," Fury said.
"Abilities?" Steve said.
"Yeah." You shifted into Nat and watch the confusion on their faces before turning back into yourself. "I can also fly and control water."
"Holy shit," Banner said.
"How can you do that?" Steve asked you.
"I was in the wrong place at the wrong time," you said. "Got caught in an experiment gone wrong. Twice."
Bruce gave you a look of understanding before turning to Fury.
"How long am I staying?" Bruce asked.
"Once we get our hands on the tesseract, here in the wind," Fury said.
They started talking and you tune them out, going back to the computer. Loki was a second priority for you until you got Clint back. You nodded to Nat as she left to take Bruce to his lab and it was only minutes later when someone got a hit on Loki.
"Captain, you're up. You too, Porter," Fury said. "Show Rogers his uniform."
"Yes, sir." You gestured for Steve to follow you and took him to a room.
"Everything you'll need is in here. Meet me back at the bridge when you're ready."
"Understood."
You walked a couple doors down and opened the door to your room after entering the code. You make sure that you had your weapons and that your suit was in good condition before changing. The suit was made specially for you and it was able to change along with you when you shifted and still covered your face. Sighing, you took one look at yourself before leaving the room.
"Porter, Romanoff is going with you. She'll pilot the jet and be back up for Rogers. You're going to see if Barton is anywhere close. It's unlikely, but possible," Fury said.
"Got it."
---
By the time you made it to Germany, you knew that Clint would be gone. Still, you had hope. Loki was still there and as Steve took him on, you flew around and looked for any sign of your friend. When you saw two men laying dead with arrows sticking out of their chests, you landed next to them.
"Fury, he was here," you said. He yanked one of the arrows out of the man and looked at it.
"Are you sure?"
"Positive. These are his arrows." You drop the arrow when you saw a doorway that was open. Walking inside, you notice the compartment open. There was nothing inside.
"Iridium," you muttered. "Why do they need Iridium?"
"I'll talk to Dr. Banner. You get back to the square. Loki's in custody."
"Copy that." Furrowing your brow, you left the room and flew to the jet.
"Porter."
You groaned and rubbed your temples when you heard Stark behind you.
"Stark," you said curtly. "What're you doing here?"
"Director Fury invited me. Thought I'd help out. Where were you when the Captain here was getting his ass kicked?"
"He was doing just fine," you said with a snort. You walked over to Nat and told her what you had found.
"We'll find him," Nat said. "We have to."
"I know. But I'm worried."
"Hey." Nat took your hand in hers. "He'll be fine. It'll be back to normal soon."
You gave her a smile and squeezed her hand. Walking over to a seat where you could keep an eye on Loki, you made yourself comfortable. He kept his eyes on you until thunder and lightning came from nowhere. Loki broke eye contact to look out the window, worry and a little bit of fear in his eyes.
"Scared of a little lightning?" Steve asked him.
"I'm not overly fond of what follows, " Loki said. You shared a glance with Natasha, knowing exactly what was going to happen next. It was confirmed when Thor landed on the jet and came inside, taking Loki with him. Tony was quick to follow and while Steve put on a parachute, Natasha tried to get him to stay inside.
"You coming?" Steve asked you.
"No. I'll stay in here." You winked at him. "I'll go when you need help."
Steve jumped and Nat turned to look at you.
"They're going to need your help. Thor knows you."
"I know. I'm just going to let them duke it out before I go down there. Too much testosterone for me."
Natasha laughed softly and after a few minutes you flew to meet them. Steve had stopped Thor and all three of them were lying in the dirt.
"You guys done comparing sizes?" You said as you landed in front of them.
"Porter?" Thor said.
"The one and only. Now, if you're done, go get Loki so we can take him to the helicarrier," you said.
"Fine." Thor took off and you turned to the other two men.
"Natasha's hovering up above us. The hatch is open." You took off and they looked at each other.
"I guess I'll give you a ride," Tony said. He grabbed the back of Steve's uniform and flew back to the jet.
---
Back on the carrier, you went to the bridge.
"So you know him?" Steve asked you.
"Yes. I met him a year ago. So did Coulson and Selvig. There was a situation in New Mexico."
"Have you met Loki before?"
"No," you said, shaking your head. You sat down next to Natasha. Fury was talking to Loki and you glanced at Bruce when Loki made a jab at him.
"He grows on you, doesn't he?" Banner said sarcastically when the video feed shut off.
"Loki's gonna drag this out," Steve said.
"Thor, what's he going to do?" You asked.
"He has an army. The Chitauri. They're not of Asgard nor any world known. He means to lead them against your people." Thor turned and faced everyone. "They will win him Earth for the Tesseract, I suspect."
"An army from space?"
"So he's building another portal," Bruce said. "That's what he needs Erik Selvig for."
"Selvig?" Thor looked at you.
"Loki brainwashed him. I'm sorry," you said.
"Along with one of ours," Natasha said.
"Why did Loki let us take him?" Steve said. "He's not leading his army from here."
"We shouldn't focus on Loki. You could smell the crazy on him," Bruce said.
"Have care how you speak. Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard. And he is my brother," Thor said.
"He killed eighty people in two days," Nat said.
"He's adopted."
You bit back a laugh and got up, needing to stretch your legs. When you saw Tony walking into the room, you rolled your eyes. He started speaking and you looked at Natasha, telling her to catch you up later. She nodded and you left the room. You walked the halls of the carrier, lost in thought until a boom shook the ship and an explosion ripped a hole right where you stood.
"Fuck!" You yelled. It took a second to right yourself but you managed to fly back onto the ship.
"YN! Are you okay?" Thor said as he came running up to you. His nose was bleeding and he was all sweaty.
"I'm fine. Everyone else?"
"Yes. I'm going to Loki, to make sure they don't release him.
"I'll go with you."
The two of you ran towards Loki's cell. When you got there, Loki was being let out. Thor yelled and ran forward before you could stop him. As you suspected, it was a projection and Thor went right through him. You cursed under your breath as someone brought a knife to your throat.
"Are you ever going to not fall for that?" Loki said. You were dragged over with a grunt, the knife cutting into you slightly.
"If you do anything at all, I'll slit her throat." Thor set his hammer down and you were shoved into the cell with Thor.
"Are you alright?" Thor asked you quietly.
"Yeah." You touched your neck and saw a little blood on your fingers. Before you could say anything, Thor hit the glass with his hammer. The cell shook and you knew that you were fucked.
"The humans, they think us immortal," Loki said with a laugh. "Shall we test that?"
Loki was about to press the button to release a cell when the guard with him fell with a grunt. Looking over, you saw Coulson standing over him with a giant gun.
"Move away, please," Coulson said. Loki stepped away from the control panel and Phil came closer. You were tense, knowing that you wouldn't be able to do anything to help. So when Loki stabbed Phil, you cried out.
"No!" You yelled, dropping to the floor. You didn't even notice Loki press the button until you were floating in the air.
Chapter One
Title: Reaping Day
Words: 1561
Warnings: Talk of character death, mentions of death threats and blackmail
A/N: Hello! I'm back, somewhat. This series is still in the works, but I couldn't wait to post it. Hope you enjoy!
Reaping day was one of your least favorite days. It signaled the beginnings of the last days for 23 children and made your insides twist with guilt and sadness. The reaping started at one and it was currently eight in the morning. With a sigh, you got up out of bed and made your way into your son, Bennett's room.
"Mama!" Bennett said. "You're awake!"
"Good morning Benny!" You said as you picked him up and held him close. "Ready for some breakfast?"
"Yeah!"
You took Benny to the kitchen to make him breakfast. He was chowing down and you watched him over your cup of tea, sadness etched on your face. When he was done and asked for more, you gave your son a smile and put more food on his plate. There was no food in front of you, but you would eat later on the train if your stomach agreed to it.
"Mama! I'm done," Benny called out.
"Good job, baby. Now let's get you cleaned up before we go out."
"Okay." Bennett helped you put away the dishes before letting you help bathe and clothe him. He could tell that your mood was off and once you were done brushing his dark hair back, he turned to look at you.
"What's wrong, Mommy?" Bennett asked you.
"Do you remember what I had told you about today?"
"Is it the reading?"
"Reaping, baby. Today's the Reaping."
"Reaping," Bennett said. "What's a reaping?"
"The reaping is when one boy and girl are chosen to fight in The Hunger Games. It is also the day I have to leave for a little while," you said.
"To the Capitol?"
"Yes."
"Can I go with you?"
"No, baby. You can't. Not this time."
Bennett was very clearly upset and you sat down on the floor and brought him into your lap.
"Why not?"
"I know that you've been to the Capitol before, but you can't go with me when I leave for the Games. You're too big and it's not allowed. But I'll be back before you know it, okay?"
"Okay," Benny said with a sniff.
"You're going to stay with Hazelle while I'm gone. I won't be gone for long, I promise."
You kissed the top of his head and held him while he calmed down. Once his eyes were free of tears, the two of you got up and left the house. You were required to be on stage while the Reaping was taking place and since the citizens of the Capitol absolutely adored Bennett and he wasn't old enough to be reaped yet, he was allowed on stage with you. But before you went to the Justice Building, you stopped at the Hawthorne house.
Bennett's hand was in yours as you knocked on their front door. He was more excited now, having realized that staying with the Hawthorne's meant being able to play with his best friend, Posy. When Hazelle opened the door, you said hello and gave her a smile that didn't really reach your eyes.
"Hey, sweetheart," Hazelle said. "Come in."
"Thank you."
"Where's Posy?" Bennett asked Hazelle.
"Benny," you scolded. "You didn't even say hello yet."
"Hi, godmama. Where's Posy?"
Hazelle just laughed and pointed to the back. "She's in the backyard with her brothers."
"Thank you!" Bennett took off and you watched him go.
"Don't get too dirty! I can't get you another bath today!"
Bennett ignored you and you shook your head.
"Come here, sweetheart. How are you doing?"
"I should be asking you that," you said. "Where's Gale?"
"Out with Katniss I'm assuming. He'll be back in time, don't worry."
"Thank you for watching Bennett again. I appreciate it, I really do."
"Of course. The two of you are a part of this family." Hazelle took your hand and squeezed it.
"I brought some food. There's more back in the village if you need it and you know where I keep my money. Use what you need and stay in the house if you'd like." You glanced at the clock on the wall. "Benny and I should get going. I was told that I'm being interviewed before the reaping."
"Alright."
You called for Bennett and both he and Posy came running inside.
"Hi auntie!" Posy yelled, grabbing onto your leg. You picked her up and hugged her tightly.
"Posy! Did you have fun playing with Bennett?"
"Oh yeah! We picked some flowers, see?"
There were flowers in both kids' hair and dirt all over Bennett's hands.
"I didn't get too dirty, mama. Just my hands!"
"Let's go wash those hands. Don't want to get mom all dirty, do we?" Hazelle took Bennett to wash his hands and when he was clean, you kissed the kids goodbye and gave Hazelle a hug.
"I'll see you after the Reaping," you said.
"See you later, sweetheart."
It didn't take long to get to the Justice building and the makeup crews were eagerly awaiting your arrival. They did your makeup quickly all while doting on Benny. After they were done with you, you were put in front of some cameras.
"Hello, Sunshine! How are you and little Bennett doing this fine morning?" Caesar Flickerman said cheerfully.
"Caesar! We're doing great, how are you?" You said with a giant smile on your face.
"Hi!" Benny yelled. He pointed at Caesar. "I like your hair, it's so blue."
"Do you like blue, Bennett?" Bennett nodded furiously.
"It's his favorite," you said with a laugh.
"It's mine too. Now, you've been a Victor for about eight years now. How's the life been treating you and Benny?"
"Oh, it's been wonderful. I can't express my gratitude to the Capitol enough for helping us. Especially after-" You took a breath. "After my husband died."
"The anniversary just happened, didn't it?"
"About 2 months ago. I miss him everyday."
"How's Bennett doing?" There was a frown on Caesar's face. "Does he know about his father?"
"He knows what he looks like. Sometimes he'll ask why he doesn't have a dad and the other kids do. It's hard, being a single mom, but I have people who are basically family who help me out a lot."
"Oh? Like who?"
"Benny's godmother, Hazelle, is a life saver. She helps take care of him when I can't and I help her with her kids. She's family to us."
Benny was starting to get fidgety and Caesar let out a chuckle.
"I'm going to let the two of you go. We'll see you soon, Sunshine!"
"See you soon, Caesar. Say bye, Benny." You and Benny blew a kiss to Cesar and waved goodbye until the cameras shut down.
"Mama, can we go now?"
"We have to sit for a little bit, but then you'll be able to play with Posy all day long."
"Yay, Posy!"
You heard the makeup crew fawning over Bennett and then the telltale sound of high heels. Turning, you saw Effie Trinket walking towards you. She called your name and you smiled.
"Hey, Effie," you said. You kissed each other's cheeks.
"Pretty hair!" Bennett said.
"Thank you." Effie cooed over Bennett, letting him touch her poofy shoulders. While they were doing that, you saw Haymitch make his way into the Justice Building. He was clearly intoxicated and didn't notice you or Effie at all.
"Effie, we'll see you later. It's almost time and we should go."
"Of course! I'll see you on the train."
You and Bennett walk to your seats, you sitting next to Haymitch. People were still walking in and you scanned the crowd. Two of these kids would soon take a one-way trip to the Capitol and it hurt you to keep a smile on your face. Looking at Haymitch, you knew why he drank himself half to death everyday but you didn't have the freedom. You had to keep up your cheerful and sunny attitude in order to keep Bennett and everyone else you cared for alive.
Once all of the children were present and accounted for, Effie came onto the stage. The video President Snow had made was put on every screen and when that was over, Effie officially started the Reaping.
"Ladies first," Effie said. After some contemplation, Effie picked a name out of the bowl.
"Primrose Everdeen."
You felt your heart sink. You knew Prim and it hurt to have a twelve year old get their name picked. Looking into the crowd, you saw many different emotions. Gale had a look of horror on his face, as well as Hazelle. Carine, Prim's mom, was in shock and you couldn't blame her. Prim started to walk towards the stage and that was when you saw Katniss.
"Prim? Prim!" Katniss was stopped by peacekeepers and Prim had turned to look at her sister.
"I volunteer! I volunteer as Tribute," Katniss said, shoving one of the peacekeepers away.
Your eyes widened, not expecting that. Throughout your years of living and of being a Victor, you had never seen a volunteer from District 12. Katniss walked up onto the stage as Gale carried a distraught Prim to her mother. After everyone had quieted down, Effie drew the boy who would be participating.
"Peeta Mellark."
Peeta came up to the stage and he shook hands with Katniss.
"Happy Hunger Games. And may the odds be ever in your favor."
Watching Sandor as he slept was one of your favorite things. He looked so at peace and so much softer than he is and it never failed to bring a smile to your face. It wasn't often that you woke up earlier than him and you always took advantage of it.
You didn't move as you looked over his features, committing everything about him to your memory. The ways his eyebrows furrowed or his lips twitched. The soft snores coming out of his mouth and the bed head his hair had become. You loved everything about this man and moments like this just confirm it even more.
After a few minutes of you watching him, he twitched in his sleep and some hair fell in front of his face. You let out a giggle and brushed the hair away, tracing his features with your fingers. That made him start waking up.
"Good morning, my love," you said softly, voice still a little scratchy from sleep.
Sandor just grunted and wrapped his arms around you. He opened his eyes fully and you leaned forward, planting a kiss on his lips. Sandor kissed back, keeping it soft and loving.
"Aye. Good morning love."
The only thing that you could see was fire and death. The barn was engulfed in flames and you couldn’t see your brother anywhere. Carl was also missing and Lori was panicking, trying to find her son. As Lori and Patricia were combing the house, you were gearing up to defend the barn. Daryl had already hopped the porch fence and was on his bike. You joined Jimmy in the RV, shooting out of a window as he drove.
 “Y’all should go see if Rick and Shane lit the barn on fire! They might need help gettin’ out back,” Daryl yelled.
 “Got it,” Jimmy said.
 “Hold on. I’m going to get on the roof. I can shoot better and if it was them, they’re going to need help getting out of the barn,” you said.
 “A’ight. Ya stay safe, okay?” Daryl said to you. You could see a little bit of concern in them, but you blinked and it was gone. He drove off and you climbed to the roof of the RV, making sure you were holding on tightly.
 “Here!” Rick screamed. He waved Jimmy over and you were happy to see him.
 “Rick!” You yelled when you got to the barn.
 Jimmy stopped the RV and you stood up. Holding your hand out, you helped Rick and Carl onto the roof. Carl clung to you and you kissed his forehead.
 “Rick, where’s Shane?”
 “We have to get to the house,” Rick said, ignoring you. He climbed down the ladder, you and Carl following him. You could hear Jimmy screaming and you winced, knowing what was happening.
 “[Y/n], come on,” Carl urged.
 He grabbed your hand and the three of you made your way around the barn and into the woods. There were a few close calls with walkers, but you and Rick managed to take them out quietly. When you got out of the woods you were behind the house. You couldn’t hear the cars anymore and the only person you saw was Hershel, a walker coming up behind him. Rick shot it, saving Hershel.
 “Where’s Lori? Have you seen Lori?” Rick asked Hershel.
 “Everyone else too,” you said.
 “I don’t know. They just keep coming.”
 “We have to go!”
 “It’s my farm!”
 “Not anymore,” you said.
 Rick grabbed Hershel and you had a good hold on Carl as the four of you ran to the last car. You climbed in the front with Carl, the boy curled up to you. You could tell that he was trying not to cry and you tried to soothe him, running your fingers through his hair.
 “Rick, what happened to Shane?” You asked quietly.
 “He’s dead.”
 You were expecting that answer, but it still shocked you. Closing your eyes, you willed the tears away.
 “How?” Your voice cracked and you looked at Rick.
 “He turned.” Rick sounded angry and short. You choked back a cry, and Carl wrapped his arms around you. Putting your face in Carl’s hair, you started crying. Rick glanced at you, his heart breaking.
 “I’m sorry,” he said softly.
 ---
 By the time you made it to the highway, you had calmed down a little. It still hurt to know that your big brother was dead, but you knew that there was nothing you could do. Getting out of the car, you looked around the highway. You didn’t see anyone else. You could hear Carl start yelling at his dad and Rick was quick to quiet him.
 “Carl, everyone should think to come here. It’s what we know and all we have to do is wait,” you said.
 “Okay,” Carl said.
 The four of you spent the next couple of hours on the highway. If a walker came by, you hid from it rather than killing it, knowing none of you had the strength to do it. All of you were getting a little anxious that no one had shown up yet and you knew that if they didn’t show up before nightfall, you would have to move on. It wasn’t safe at all to stay. Hershel and Rick were talking about it when you saw the other cars appear.
 “Guys,” you said, pointing it out to them.
 “Is that?” Carl asked.
 “It is.” You holstered your gun and when everyone got out of their cars, you crashed into Glenn.
 “Glenn! You made it out,” you said, happy your friend was alive.
 “We did.”
 “Where’s the rest of us?” Daryl asked.
 “We’re the only ones that made it so far,” Rick said.
 “Shane?” Lori asked, getting up from the ground where she was hugging Carl. Rick shook his head and you bit your lip.
 “[Y/n], I’m so sorry,” Glenn whispered, pulling you in for another hug. Your shoulders shook from holding back your sobs and he tightened his grip before looking at the rest of the group. “What about Andrea?”
 “We saw her go down,” T said.
 There was an argument where some people wanted to go back for Andrea but it was ultimately decided that the group was going to head east. So you all piled into the cars after grabbing what supplies you could find quickly and started driving.
 You were sitting next to Carl, the boy curled up next to you. He was trying to comfort you and it brought a faint smile to your face. You drove for most of the day and you slept for a good portion of it. You woke up for the last time when Rick honked the horn on the sedan, signaling to the rest of the group that they needed to stop.
 The other car and Daryl stopped driving, everyone getting out. You shivered from the cold and rubbed your arms, trying to get some warmth into them before grabbing your gun.
 “Ya out?” Daryl asked Rick.
 “Running on fumes.”
 “How are ya doin’ on ammo? I don’t got a lotta arrows left,” Daryl said.
 “Not enough,” Rick said. He looked around. “Alright. We’re going to set up a perimeter. In the morning we’ll find some gas and some supplies.”
 “Glenn and I can make a run now,” Maggie said.
 “We should spilt up this close to dark,” you said. “Safer to stick together.”
 “[Y/n]’s right,” Rick said. “We don’t need anyone being stranded without a car.”
 “Rick, we’re stranded now,” Glenn said.
 “I know it looks bad, but we’ve been through worse. At least we found each other.” Rick stopped and shook his head. “I wasn’t sure. I really wasn’t sure, but we did. We’re together and we need to keep it that way.”
 “Right now we need ta find some shelter,” Daryl said. “Build us a fire and keep a look out for any walkers.”
 “Over there looks good,” you said, pointing to what looked like a ruined building.
 “What if another herd passes by or a group like Randall’s?” Beth asked, fear in her voice.
 “Ya know I found Randall, right? He had turned but he wasn’t bit,” Daryl said.
 “How’s that possible?” You asked.
 “Rick, what the hell happened out there?” Lori said.
 “Shane killed Randall,” Daryl said.
 “Then the herd got him?”
 No one said anything, everyone looking at Rick. You could tell that he was contemplating something and you frowned.
 “We’re all infected.”
 “What?” Daryl said. Your eyes were darting around, your brain trying to comprehend what Rick had just told you.
 “At the CDC, Jenner told me that whatever it is, we all have it.”
 You shook your head and walked a little ways away from the group. No, it wasn’t possible. You could hear the group still talking about it, but no words registered. The world had already gone to shit and this was just the icing on top of the cake. Everyone was fucked, doomed to die and become a monster if no one shot you in the head first.
 Rick walked away from the group, Lori following him. You could see that Rick had said something to Lori and she wasn’t liking it, both of them glancing at you from time to time. It made you a little worried, but it was between them. Shaking your head, you walked over to Carol and Daryl.
 “We should get some fire wood collected,” you said. “If we don’t get warm, we’re not going to last the night.”
 “I’mma go and see if I can hunt anything. Set some traps, too,” Daryl said.
 “[Y/n] and I will focus on the firewood. I’ll let the rest of the group know where you are.” Carol looked at you and put her hand on your arm. “Come on, honey.”
 “Alright.” You gave Daryl a smile as you passed him and he tilted his head at you.
 ---
 Later that night, you were sitting around the fire with Lori and Carl. It was small, but it was doing its job. Daryl hadn’t managed to catch anything and you could hear everyone’s stomach growling. You could also hear everyone talking about Rick and how they think they should take their chances on the road. You shook your head at that, knowing that none of you would’ve made it this far if it wasn’t for Rick. You ignored it, though, not really caring about it. Even when a loud noise sounded in the dark, you found yourself not really caring.
 All you felt was numb. Numb at the loss of your brother. At the loss of the farm. Everything was going downhill and it was going fast. Glancing at the group, you saw that they were all in the middle of arguing about Rick not doing anything and that you needed to leave. All of it went in one ear and out the other. All of it except the part about Shane.
 “I killed my best friend for all of you, for Christ’s sake!” Rick hissed.
 “What?” You said, getting up from the ground.
 “You saw what he was like. How he pushed me and compromised us.”
 “You killed my brother?” Your voice was shaky and you took a step back from Rick.
 “He staged the whole thing with Randall, wanting to put a bullet in my back. He gave me no choice!” He looked at you and you shook your head. “He was my friend and he came after me.”
 “He was my brother!” Rick took a step towards you but you stumbled back, pointing at him with a shaky hand. “No, you stay away!”
 Rick went to open his mouth again and tears fell down your cheeks. You spun on your heel after a second and started walking away from the fire and the group.
 “[Y/n], stay here!” Rick said. You ignored him and continued walking. Rick started to go after you, but Carol got in front of him.
 “No. She clearly doesn’t want you near her right now.” Carol glanced at Daryl and he nodded, going after you. Rick didn’t seem to like that, but Carol glared at him. “Leave her be. She needs time.”
 Rick knew that this was his fault, his mind running a mile a minute as he watched Daryl go after you. He felt bad, terrible even, but he couldn’t take back his actions. So he watched as you fell apart.
"Mama!" Bennett said. "You're awake!"
"Good morning Benny!" You said as you picked him up and held him close. "Ready for some breakfast?"
"Yeah!"
You took Benny to the kitchen to make him breakfast. He was chowing down and you watched him over your cup of tea, sadness etched on your face. When he was done and asked for more, you gave your son a smile and put more food on his plate. There was no food in front of you, but you would eat later on the train if your stomach agreed to it.
"Mama! I'm done," Benny called out.
"Good job, baby. Now let's get you cleaned up before we go out."
"Okay." Bennett helped you put away the dishes before letting you help bathe and clothe him. He could tell that your mood was off and once you were done brushing his dark hair back, he turned to look at you.
"What's wrong, Mommy?" Bennett asked you.
"Do you remember what I had told you about today?"
"Is it the reading?"
"Reaping, baby. Today's the Reaping."
"Reaping," Bennett said. "What's a reaping?"
"The reaping is when one boy and girl are chosen to fight in The Hunger Games. It is also the day I have to leave for a little while," you said.
"To the Capitol?"
"Yes."
"Can I go with you?"
"No, baby. You can't. Not this time."
Bennett was very clearly upset and you sat down on the floor and brought him into your lap.
"Why not?"
"I know that you've been to the Capitol before, but you can't go with me when I leave for the Games. You're too big and it's not allowed. But I'll be back before you know it, okay?"
"Okay," Benny said with a sniff.
"You're going to stay with Hazelle while I'm gone. I won't be gone for long, I promise."
You kissed the top of his head and held him while he calmed down. Once his eyes were free of tears, the two of you got up and left the house. You were required to be on stage while the Reaping was taking place and since the citizens of the Capitol absolutely adored Bennett and he wasn't old enough to be reaped yet, he was allowed on stage with you. But before you went to the Justice Building, you stopped at the Hawthorne house.
Bennett's hand was in yours as you knocked on their front door. He was more excited now, having realized that staying with the Hawthorne's meant being able to play with his best friend, Posy. When Hazelle opened the door, you said hello and gave her a smile that didn't really reach your eyes.
"Hey, sweetheart," Hazelle said. "Come in."
"Thank you."
"Where's Posy?" Bennett asked Hazelle.
"Benny," you scolded. "You didn't even say hello yet."
"Hi, godmama. Where's Posy?"
Hazelle just laughed and pointed to the back. "She's in the backyard with her brothers."
"Thank you!" Bennett took off and you watched him go.
"Don't get too dirty! I can't get you another bath today!"
Bennett ignored you and you shook your head.
"Come here, sweetheart. How are you doing?"
"I should be asking you that," you said. "Where's Gale?"
"Out with Katniss I'm assuming. He'll be back in time, don't worry."
"Thank you for watching Bennett again. I appreciate it, I really do."
"Of course. The two of you are a part of this family." Hazelle took your hand and squeezed it.
"I brought some food. There's more back in the village if you need it and you know where I keep my money. Use what you need and stay in the house if you'd like." You glanced at the clock on the wall. "Benny and I should get going. I was told that I'm being interviewed before the reaping."
"Alright."
You called for Bennett and both he and Posy came running inside.
"Hi auntie!" Posy yelled, grabbing onto your leg. You picked her up and hugged her tightly.
"Posy! Did you have fun playing with Bennett?"
"Oh yeah! We picked some flowers, see?"
There were flowers in both kids' hair and dirt all over Bennett's hands.
"I didn't get too dirty, mama. Just my hands!"
"Let's go wash those hands. Don't want to get mom all dirty, do we?" Hazelle took Bennett to wash his hands and when he was clean, you kissed the kids goodbye and gave Hazelle a hug.
"I'll see you after the Reaping," you said.
"See you later, sweetheart."
It didn't take long to get to the Justice building and the makeup crews were eagerly awaiting your arrival. They did your makeup quickly all while doting on Benny. After they were done with you, you were put in front of some cameras.
"Hello, Sunshine! How are you and little Bennett doing this fine morning?" Caesar Flickerman said cheerfully.
"Caesar! We're doing great, how are you?" You said with a giant smile on your face.
"Hi!" Benny yelled. He pointed at Caesar. "I like your hair, it's so blue."
"Do you like blue, Bennett?" Bennett nodded furiously.
"It's his favorite," you said with a laugh.
"It's mine too. Now, you've been a Victor for about eight years now. How's the life been treating you and Benny?"
"Oh, it's been wonderful. I can't express my gratitude to the Capitol enough for helping us. Especially after-" You took a breath. "After my husband died."
"The anniversary just happened, didn't it?"
"About 2 months ago. I miss him everyday."
"How's Bennett doing?" There was a frown on Caesar's face. "Does he know about his father?"
"He knows what he looks like. Sometimes he'll ask why he doesn't have a dad and the other kids do. It's hard, being a single mom, but I have people who are basically family who help me out a lot."
"Oh? Like who?"
"Benny's godmother, Hazelle, is a life saver. She helps take care of him when I can't and I help her with her kids. She's family to us."
Benny was starting to get fidgety and Caesar let out a chuckle.
"I'm going to let the two of you go. We'll see you soon, Sunshine!"
"See you soon, Caesar. Say bye, Benny." You and Benny blew a kiss to Cesar and waved goodbye until the cameras shut down.
"Mama, can we go now?"
"We have to sit for a little bit, but then you'll be able to play with Posy all day long."
"Yay, Posy!"
You heard the makeup crew fawning over Bennett and then the telltale sound of high heels. Turning, you saw Effie Trinket walking towards you. She called your name and you smiled.
"Hey, Effie," you said. You kissed each other's cheeks.
"Pretty hair!" Bennett said.
"Thank you." Effie cooed over Bennett, letting him touch her poofy shoulders. While they were doing that, you saw Haymitch make his way into the Justice Building. He was clearly intoxicated and didn't notice you or Effie at all.
"Effie, we'll see you later. It's almost time and we should go."
"Of course! I'll see you on the train."
You and Bennett walk to your seats, you sitting next to Haymitch. People were still walking in and you scanned the crowd. Two of these kids would soon take a one-way trip to the Capitol and it hurt you to keep a smile on your face. Looking at Haymitch, you knew why he drank himself half to death everyday but you didn't have the freedom. You had to keep up your cheerful and sunny attitude in order to keep Bennett and everyone else you cared for alive.
Once all of the children were present and accounted for, Effie came onto the stage. The video President Snow had made was put on every screen and when that was over, Effie officially started the Reaping.
"Ladies first," Effie said. After some contemplation, Effie picked a name out of the bowl.
"Primrose Everdeen."
You felt your heart sink. You knew Prim and it hurt to have a twelve year old get their name picked. Looking into the crowd, you saw many different emotions. Gale had a look of horror on his face, as well as Hazelle. Carine, Prim's mom, was in shock and you couldn't blame her. Prim started to walk towards the stage and that was when you saw Katniss.
"Prim? Prim!" Katniss was stopped by peacekeepers and Prim had turned to look at her sister.
"I volunteer! I volunteer as Tribute," Katniss said, shoving one of the peacekeepers away.
Your eyes widened, not expecting that. Throughout your years of living and of being a Victor, you had never seen a volunteer from District 12. Katniss walked up onto the stage as Gale carried a distraught Prim to her mother. After everyone had quieted down, Effie drew the boy who would be participating.
"Peeta Mellark."
Peeta came up to the stage and he shook hands with Katniss.
"Happy Hunger Games. And may the odds be ever in your favor."
Days like this were the worst. You were sneezing every few seconds, your eyes were watery, your nose running, and a splitting headache starting to form. There wasn’t any medicine for you to take, the last of it was used a week ago, and there wasn’t any time for you to take a nap to make it go away. So you powered through it.
Sniffing, you turned your attention back to the walkers in front of you. You stabbed one in the head before turning around and sneezing loudly. Groaning, you sniffed again and coughed.
“Are you alright?” Karen asked you.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” you said. “My allergies are just kicking my ass today.”
“You want to go get some medicine?”
“No,” you said with a shake of your head. “We don’t have any more. I’m pretty sure I singlehandedly wiped out our stores on that.”
“You should lie down then,” Karen said. “Don’t want Daryl seeing you working like this.”
“He’s on a run, he won’t find out.” You waved her concerns away and went back to work.
“I won’t find out what?” You spun around in surprise, clearly not expecting Daryl to be standing right behind you.
“Nothing!” Your voice went up in pitch and Daryl gave you an unconvinced look.
“Their allergies are bad today,” Karen said.
“I’m fine,” you said, turning away from both of them. That’s when you sneezed so loudly you spooked the horse.
“Fuck,” you said with a groan.
“You need to sleep that off,” Daryl said to you. To Karen he said, “I’ll get someone else to cover their shift.”
“Feel better!” Daryl grabbed your hand and led you into the prison to your shared cell.
“Sit. Don’t move.”
You said nothing back as he left and came back with a bottle of water and some pills.
“We have more allergy medicine?” You asked him.
“No, but Hershel gave me some Tylenol for the headache you’re most likely nursing.”
You laughed before wincing slightly. Daryl just shook his head and handed you the water and medicine. After you took them, you laid down and covered your eyes. You could hear Daryl closing the curtains before he started taking off your shoes.
“Thank you,” you said softly. “I appreciate you so much.”
Daryl didn’t say anything else, but he kissed your forehead before leaving you to rest.
