Do I have your permission to hypothetically write fanfics in this AU (with proper credit and direct links and everything, of course)?

Yes, anyone who wishes to may write Android Peter fic so long as they please credit me if it is set in my AU and/or uses canon taken directly from my AU*.  Hyperlinks are appreciated but not a big deal so long as the credit is enough information for people to find my work if they want.  Also please tell me!  I want to seeeee

If you’re posting to ao3, there is actually the option to officially declare your work as a "remix, a translation, a podfic, or was inspired by another work" in the Associations section when publishing your fic (this can also be done retroactively on the Edit Work page). Citing any of my works in this section creates a direct link under that work to your own, allowing anyone who reads my fic to see that yours exists and vice versa.  Up to you whether you want to use this function.

If you (general you) are inspired by my work to write your own AUs about Peter being an android built by Tony Stark, then no credit necessary.  Feel free to let me know, though.  I’d love to hear if this series has inspired anyone to create their own!

*For example: If you knowingly use my idea that Android Peter makes mechanical tones to self-soothe because he can't physically cry, please credit. On the other hand, if your AU uses nothing specific from mine but has the common plot element of Peter getting damaged and Tony repairing him, that idea is too vague to be "stolen" in any meaningful way.

Irondad Creator Awards

I just found out that Tony Built a Son has been nominated in two categories in the @irondad-creator-awards!  Thank you so much to whoever nominated my series!  I’m not sure who you are, but it means a lot that after all this time, there are still people thinking about this little AU that’s been such a pleasure to share with you all.

Voting for the event closes in only a couple of days on 21st April, and the winners will be announced on 1st May.  Here’s a link to the voting form if you’re interested in voting.  There are tons of categories in both fic and art and so many nominees.  Be sure to check whether any of your favourite works have been nominated and vote for them!

What are your opinions on spinoff fics based on your series? I've noticed a couple cropping up

I’ve got no problem with people making their own Android Peter fics!  I was honestly surprised I couldn’t find any before I wrote mine, so it makes sense that others would come up with the idea, and I don’t want anyone thinking they’re not “allowed” to use the same idea because it’s been done before.

That being said, if someone has taken direct inspiration from my fic or are otherwise using ideas they got from my AU, it would be nice to get a mention in the notes, and letting me know with a DM or inbox would be cool!  I don’t actively read a lot of Spider-Man fics, so I’m not really aware of what’s been going on in the fic side of the fandom.

Edit: This ask does say “spinoff fics based on [my] series”.  I’ve worked really hard to make my Android Peter my own, so if there are fics people are writing directly based on my AU, such as knowingly and actively using my specific interpretation of an android Peter and/or setting their fic in the specific timeline/canon I created, I really would like them to let me know, or at least please acknowledge where they took their interpretations from.

What is Peter’s legal status?

I feel like I’ve answered this before but when I went looking for what I’d written I couldn’t find it, so:

Peter currently has no legal status as a human being, and won’t until the legal definition of humanity or otherwise individuals deserving of basic human rights are changed.  (if that already happened in the MCU and I’ve overlooked it, feel free to pull me up but I’m fairly certain that hasn’t been addressed??)

He is, in the eyes of the legal system, technically software and hardware developed by Tony, so owned by him.  Crimes against Peter could only ever amount to property damage or theft, or perhaps certain cyber crimes depending on the nature of the attack.  If something happened to him, there are probably a number of angles in civil law that Tony could pursue, however.

It should be remembered that most people who interact with Peter are going to treat him like a human being with dignity and rights, especially if they’ve spent any significant amount of time with him.  It’s also a big leap from being suspicious and/or dismissive of Peter, to actually harming him in any way that would warrant criminal charges if done to a human.  The problem is that if someone chose to mistreat him, Peter would have no legal protections from it.

Hey does peter ever get bullied or mocked because he is an Android?

It’s a long time before Peter ever suffers any kind of persecution because Tony was so protective of him and careful about when and how to introduce him to the world.  Peter doesn’t have to be immediately obvious as an Android to people if he doesn’t want to, but of course that doesn’t mean he isn’t aware how different he is and how many people will and do hold that against him.  He is painfully aware.

Peter’s problem is less often people actively trying to hurt his feelings as a bully would, and more often people misunderstanding his nature and either fearing him or just not treating him with the same respect and dignity as they would afford someone they considered a fellow human being.

Peter, bless his heart, really does try to be a good sport about it but it hurts.

Yes.  I almost answered this with a reminder that actually everything I’ve written so far for this AU has occurred before the canonical events of Infinity War, so who’s to say for certain yet?

But let’s be real, I can’t on good conscience be canon-compliant to the events of Endgame.  It wouldn’t even be fun except in the realm of angsty AUs for the sake of angsty AUs.

As a general rule of thumb, this AU is mostly canon-compliant up to Civil War but not beyond.
