Psst it's the two year anniversary today!
Introducing... The Warrior Cats Rarepair collection!
@addershine and I have made a rarepair prompt meme collection on AO3 to help create content, especially for ships! As @mallowstep has said, there's a severe lack of romantic fanfiction in the WC fandom and we'd like to encourage others to give it a try!
The collection is dedicated to helping boost rarepairs so shippers have more content and the fandom has more fics to devour.
So what is a rarepair? We're defining a rarepair as a ship with less than 10 works in their canonical relationship (/) tag. You can find more information on the collection page! Adder even made a whole spreadsheet of all current Warrior Cats rarepairs for reference!
If you write fanfiction or create fanart, you can add your fanworks into the collection or claim and fulfill prompts from other people. Anyone (must be signed in) can add a prompt - you're welcome to claim your own as well, and prompts can be fulfilled as many times as people like!
Because it's a celebration of my birthday, every anniversary (13 February) we'll post an overview of the last year, a sort of present to myself and to the fandom that I've been in the longest.
If you have any questions that aren't on the collection's intro or FAQ, please feel free to send either myself or Adder an ask. If you need an invite to join AO3 to participate, you can either sign up for the AO3 waitlist or contact one of us (off-anon) so we can get you an invite - we'll send this in a private ask or DM.
Also if you want prompts for a specific rarepair, send me an ask and I'll personally write a request on there with multiple prompts for you AND others to fulfill!

in retrospect it's kinda weird that brokenstar, famously beloved and favored by his father (before killing him) was breezepelt's dark forest mentor. honestly? tigerstar the first would have fit better bc he could bend the story of pinestar abandoning him to try and align with breezepelt's pain more, convince him that he is right to get revenge on crowfeather like tigerstar never got to with pinestar. (it doesn't matter that tigerstar didn't actually really want revenge on pinestar, only that he can convince breezepelt that he did.)

Hate that once a cat goes to the Dark Forest they can’t be redeemed. We spent a whole arc dealing with a mistake Starclan made and they even admit it was a mistake and then turn around flip all the dark forest cats who risked their lives to fix it off. Like what’s up with that?? It’s no crime forgivable?? You’re telling me they were gonna send Squirrelflight and Leafpool here with no chance to ever make it to Starclan? Let I remind you that none of the cats running their trial haven’t broken the code themselves. That’s hella fucked up.

one thing i notice warrior cats gets flak for is how it doesn't really appear to have a specific theme in mind, with ideas falling in and then right out of the authors' hands like rainwater. and in a lot of ways this is true: warrior cats often doesn't seem able to make up its mind about what it wants to be about. but let me propose to you this: warrior cats is about repeated cycles and loving regardless of them. the problems in warrior cats are faced over and over and over again, generation by generation. even though the characters themselves are largely inconsequential to the history of the world, they're consequential to those around them. they love, they live, they die even though some cosmic part of them knows in the eyes of starclan none of it matters.
it's about always.
warrior cats is about cradling your newborn child and looking up to the gods above, and knowing they will never care for him as anything beyond a mere mortal- but you accept him, and you love him, and therefore nothing else matters in the world. knowing that your daughter and granddaughter and great-granddaughter will face the same scorn and worry you have- but knowing that you can try to improve the world where you can to make their worries different than yours. it's about burying bodies you never knew in the hopes that someone out there will remember them. it's about acceptance of how close we really are with the generations before and after us. it's about how in the grand scheme of the universe and all within it we are all deeply insignificant, but we can still make connections that matter! we can still love even though the problems we faced then and after us will always be the same. to love in spite of ourselves. even though greed and anger and apathy will outlast us, so will love! so will life! and so will the forest of cats fighting, falling in love, and dying; for the stories they tell existed long before the erins ever adapted them and will exist long after the last warrior cats book will be printed. it's a universal nature, of the human condition: there are no original stories because they have always been there within us.
from the first line in the first book, it has been about always. for good or bad it is always.
there is always something a cat can do, so long as he has courage and loyalty.
that is how it has always been, and that is how it will always be.

leaders returning lives is great and all but i'm just obsessed with the finality of leadership. you have nine lives. if you are a bad leader, your clan either deals with it, or they kill you. that's it. no backing out. no middle ground. deal or die.
