anyway my stance on "reading the classics" basically boils down to the fact that what is or is not defined as "a classic" is somewhat arbitrary, and therefore it makes no sense to treat "the classics" as some sort of uniform genre that you either like or dislike. Whether you liked Great Expectations has no bearing on whether you'll like 1984 or Rebecca or Pride and Prejudice or East of Eden or Frankenstein or Crime and Punishment. Because those are all vastly different books. "I don't want to read Classics; they're all boring and probably sexist or something." <<free yourself from the arbitrary category of "classic." It just means a lot of people liked the book. You might not. but you might. Treat it as an individual title.
True Name worldbuilding is such an inescapably fascinating thing. You can’t have True Names in your setting without deciding to some extent which Names are True. There are people who I would say know me, who know me only as Tuesday - does that make it a True Name? Do I think of myself as Tuesday enough for it to be a True Name? Is my deadname a True Name? If not, when did it stop being one? When it stopped being the thing you should shout if I was gonna get hit by a bus? When exactly was that? Once I had a violating experience and when I got home I took off the clothes I’d been wearing, curled up under a blanket, and addressed myself by my deadname when comforting myself. It wasn’t not an attempt at name magic. If Tuesday is a True Name, does any moniker I offer to one of the Fair Folk risk becoming a True Name if I interact with them long enough? Do I have to carefully maintain it in my mind as an alias, lest it slip? Are there creatures who play the long game, not trying to find out your True Name but trying to build you one? Can they use the process of building you a new True Name to shape you?
this is like 100% petty all things considered but i just can’t wait until some of u learn that it is absolutely normal for people of any age to refer to their dads as “daddy” in many parts of the south like it isn’t a red flag there. 60 year old women in my family still refer to their dads as “daddy.” and btw i think anyone should be allowed to call their own fathers whatever they want without someone either making it nasty or being accusatory like don’t you get tired of making ppl uncomfortable for no reason
Being on this website is fun because you can absolutely tell when a blorbo clicks in someone's brain. You're scrolling, and suddenly out of nowhere there's like 12 posts about the same character back to back reposted by the same person, and you just know "oh. They're a permanent part of their psyche now." and honestly it's a vibe go off king
So this is a typeset I did for Persuasion by Jane Austen, using the transcript from Project Gutenburg (definitely check them out if you're looking for free/public domain books!).
This typeset is for half letter and is free to use for bookbinding purposes (personal use only), I just ask that you please leave credit and consider liking/reblogging if possible!
The file can be found here:
Really I read it wrong at first but I had a funny idea so here we go 😋
I was tagged by @maddstermind here to give an Out of Context Line (thanks!) and by @mysticstarlightduck here to put up an Out of Context WIP poll (also thanks!)!
With the rules for the second one being to post out of context/bad summaries of your WIPs and make a poll for people to choose from.
So since I mixed them up, how about an Out of Context Mix-up!?
Also, since I'm being a weirdo, this is an OPEN TAG, any and all feel free to play!!
Pick an Out of Context line and the winning WIP will get the context for the line posted AND I'll whip out another chapter of it!
