i literally cannot stop thinking about dami and jiun in a modern university au,,,, with like adult dami basically having hwi's personality (although i like to think dami would have grown up different without being forced to become hwi, but that's a discussion for another day)

dami definitely studies law and jiun studies medicine

dami is that One Girl we all know that just has everything together - like perfect notes, perfect essays, always turns up to tutorials on time, somehow also finds time to represent the university on the archery AND equestrian team of her college. scary. terrifying. is she even human.

jiun being That Student that turns up late to lectures wearing different coloured-socks because he just got out of bed 5 minutes ago, and who definitely falls asleep during the lecture itself, but who somehow manages to top the cohort each year

they meet because jiun is running across the college at top speed (once again, he is late for a lecture), and he ends up running straight into dami by the college's lake, causing her to drop her folder of notes into the water.

dami decides there and then that she hates him.

but then jiun jumps into the lake to get her notes out, and all is going fine until dami notices that jiun is having trouble getting out of the lake, and has to dive in to haul him out

"WHY did you dive into the water if you can't swim?????"

"i can swim....i just got...a cramp.....in my leg...." (he's lying, he can't swim but felt so bad about the notes, and i mean, how hard can swimming be? right? RIGHT?)

it's literally winter so they are both wet and shivering, and jiun awkwardly suggests that they go to his dorm room which is nearer to dry off, and dami huffily agrees

jiun offers dami a Clean Towel and gets her a change of clothes, before starting to take his top off so he can change too, dami shrieks, because, what the fuck?? she's still there????? Her Eyes (secretly she is 100% like Damn,,,, Those Abs, but she's never going to say that out loud,,,, yet)

jiun ducks into the toilet to finish changing and is about to dash out of the door without a coat because Oh My God I Am So Late For My Lecture

dami yanks him back and makes him put on a coat and a scarf because wtf is wrong with this man does he want to catch a cold???? jiun falls Hopelessly In Love at this point

dami turns up to the tutorial late and wearing a hoodie that is about 3x too big for her. her classmates are staring. she tries not to blush. (obviously she still knows all the answers to the tutor's questions without her notes - who do you think she is???)

jiun is in a daze for the rest of the day and his friends are trying to figure out why he is wearing this large goofy smile. this man is basically the equivalent of a gigantic golden retriever and we all know it

dami tries very hard not to think about jiun (and his abs), but she does, so she tries to find out about him sneakily by casually asking her friends (she thinks it's casual. it isn't)

turns out he's not only this ace medical student but also volunteers at orphanages in his spare time,,, he also founded this medical start up but the rumour is that he donates all his earnings to said orphanages

dami is All Soft at this point because she grew up in an orphanage

dami signs up for the volunteer roster for the next week, and when she arrives and sees jiun playing and laughing with the children - her heart feels so full she thinks it might burst

dami reads a storybook to a group of children and does not notice that jiun is just staring at her with like gigantic Heart Eyes

jiun asks her out for coffee after the volunteering session is over,,, and things just,,,, happen from there

jiun kisses her first, and then pulls back, all shy and hesitant, and hwi just shoves him to the wall and kisses him back with all her might because she's been thinking about doing this all day

jiun is 1) surprised, 2) very into this

they start going out after that but they keep it a secret because turns out jiun's dad is some important, vaguely terrifying dude and jiun dating would definitely make it onto society gossip pages

jiun 120% wears giant, extremely fluffy and comfy looking sweaters, and dami is Tiny and Mad because the sweaters make him extra huggable but no one can find out they are Dating™

dami wakes up first in the mornings because she is definitely the kind of person who wakes up at 5am and completes a whole workout routine before beginning her day

good things about waking up earlier: she gets to watch her Beautiful Boyfriend sleep

bad things about waking up earlier: she has to untangle herself from her boyfriend's extremely long limbs while he tries to cling to her in his sleep

dami will literally be 80% done with her essay by the time jiun stumbles into the kitchen looking still mostly asleep. (whispering: jiun with messy bed hair!!!!!)

on their first anniversary, they head back to the lake where they first met and jiun gently tells dami that he wants to be someone who will never fail to be by her side whenever she needs him most, and dami has never heard anyone say anything more romantic in her entire life. and no, she's not crying, there's just something in her eye!!!!

(Bonus: they kiss. daddy jung comes into the university to guest lecture and walks in on them. oops.)

Zuko and Katara are unaware of their students trying to set them up, and so it results in a lot of interesting shenanigans where their students are frustrated because they did not concoct a twelve step plan for their teachers to hold hands— only for Zuko to blush (he’s trying to be professional, but he loves his wife) and briskly walk away.

Katara is a little confused when a horde of Zuko’s students surround her with reassurance and encouragements after he rounds the corner.

hi anon! thank you so much for the ask <3 

oh you are killing me here. i love both but if i absolutely had to choose...SWT ambassador katara/fire lord zuko for sure. this one wins out for me just because it feels like such a natural progression of how their relationship would go post-canon, like an extension of the show. being ambassador really fits katara’s natural skillset and her goals: she gets to inspire people, to change outdated systems and traditions, to fight for those who don’t have the power to fight for themselves. i also see zuko being incredibly grateful to have her there, not just because she’s one of the only people he can trust in the messy political landscape of the post-war Fire Nation, but because they share the same moral values and motivations (defending the innocent, helping those who can’t help themselves) and she would absolutely have his back when he needs it. 

headcanons (god i have too many): 

- katara becomes fiercely protective of zuko following the final agni kai. the assassination attempts on the fire lord drop sharply after katara takes up residence, because any would-be assassins always find one incredibly determined, furious waterbender watching the fire lord’s back

- katara developed a slight crush on zuko during their time on ember island, but she’s all it’s nothing serious i’ll get over it until one day they’re working late in zuko’s office the way they always do and he makes a horrible joke but she can’t stop laughing anyway and then she looks at him and he’s giving her this soft, tender smile and his eyes are beautiful amber in the firelight and she goes oh. 

- zuko has been in love with her for a long, long time, of course. he realizes it at the exact moment she heals him after the agni kai when he opens his eyes and looks at her and thinks he would do it all over again for her 

- they don’t confess for ages because katara thinks zuko will have to marry some fire nation noble and doesn’t want to get in the way of his duty while zuko thinks katara will never want to stay in the fire nation, and doesn’t want to tie her down. they’re two pining idiots in love 

- katara becomes the first person zuko looks for when he needs advice on big decisions. her insights, opinions and support become invaluable and they spend many nights together poring over trade agreements and tariffs and tax policies, with tea and laughter and many, many unsubtle longing looks 

- katara is the only one to look out for zuko, her friend, not just the fire lord, and zuko makes sure that katara doesn’t run herself ragged trying to do everything for everyone. he makes sure to bring her badly-brewed tea at least once a week, but katara drinks it anyway (she commiserates with iroh later)

- katara falls asleep over her paperwork and zuko carries her to bed. this is canon 

- the first time katara joins zuko’s council meeting, an old, racist politician makes a xenophobic remark to her in front of the fire lord. that is the only time anyone on zuko’s council dares disrespect katara

- katara becomes absolutely beloved by the people of the fire nation. when the news of zuko and katara’s engagement is announced, after the new ozai society has been routed out, the entire country celebrates

- literally everyone around them knows the swt ambassador and the fire lord are in love, long before zuko and katara realize it themselves. when they actually announce they’re dating everyone is like ????? why are you telling us this??? we know??? 

god, time to go read swt ambassador and fire lord fics again. if anyone has a good one, please drop recommendations.

hi bestie ask and ye shall receive i had some free time (im sorry if theres some mistakes in the plot its been years since ive watched the movie) A week ago, if someone told Zuko that he’d be meeting his ex-wife again, he would have laughed in their face. Zuko hadn’t told Izumi about how she had a twin sister who looked just like her; eyes, nose, and all that. That was the deal he and Katara had made all those years ago. He would have custody over Izumi, while Katara got Kiyi. Then they decided to part ways, for good. But here he suddenly was, meeting up with Katara almost 11 years later- because of that wretched summer camp Izumi had forced him to let her go to. It was like his life was straight up out of a Disney movie. Izumi had circumstantially met Kiyi in the same camp. And the clever little nuisances had decided to exchange their identities, leading to Kiyi coming back to him instead of Izumi. \\ The ruckus with his ex-wife being in the same hotel as him, during his wedding began when Zuko was wandering around the hotel clad in his best suit, donning a red tie. Remarriage was a big deal, and he was going to do everything right. As he walked into the elevator with his fiancé in his arms, he saw her. Katara. He had to shut his eyes tight and reopen them to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating. She was right there, just a few steps away from the elevator, smiling at him, almost amused. The doors began to close as Zuko leaned all the way towards the wall, continuing to stare at her, disbelief clear in his eyes as she waved meekly at him. \\ Zuko was horrified to find out what Izumi had done. He had had Kiyi with him for so long, and he had never realized! The girls had secretly planned to reunite him with Katara, they didn't seem to realize the mess they had caused in the process. \\ He went out looking for her. He had to see her again. He walked around, peeking at every dark-skinned woman with curly-wavy hair to see if they were her. Distracted by his search, he barely acknowledged his mother-in-law weave her arm into his. “Zuko, I think this hotel is perfect for the wedding,” she smiled. He didn’t bother to reply, his mind exploding like a firecracker. He had to see her again, or he'd lose his mind entirely. “The more I see it, the more I like it!” Mai's mother said, ignorant of what Zuko was doing. Why won’t she leave him alone? Couldn’t she see he was busy? “Me too,” he dismissed as his eyes still wandered around looking for Katara. There she was. His eyes widened as he saw her graciously climb down a set of stairs. His heart couldn’t seem to stop thumping. She seemed to have this effect on him even after all those years of being halfway across the world from each other. “Now, tell me, how many people are expected from your side of the family? An estimate should do.” Zuko’s mother-in-law said, looking at him for an answer. “I.. I don’t know at the moment,” he replied, his eyes still glued onto the dark-haired woman before him. Untangling his arm, he murmured, “ill be right back.” Mai's mother seemed to be yelling something to him, but he was too focused on someone else. Speeding up his pace, he walked towards his first love. Katara was still yet to notice him. She was jaw-droppingly gorgeous, all that even without trying. All she had on was a blue frock, her hair in a messy updo, yet she carried herself with such grace- it was impossible for anyone to take their eyes off of her. A small smile playing on his lips, he walked faster, tripping on someone’s picnic basket. Vaguely apologizing, he moved forward, hoping he hadn’t missed his shot yet. He turned around to make sure he could still see her, leading to him unceremoniously bumping into another man. As he whipped around to apologize again, his foot slipped. He landed face-first into the pool. So much for an impressive reunion with his ex-wife. “Daddy!” he heard Izumi yell. As he struggled to swim back up, he splashed around until he could bring his head out of the water and use his lungs again. Coughing and sputtering, his face red of

embarrassment, he saw her looking at him, the most beautiful laugh echoing off of her. Oh, how he missed that laugh. Pushing out of the four feet deep pool, he climbed out, dripping wet to face Katara. She was still giggling, her fingertips at her lips, her eyes sparkling as she anticipated his next move. Smiling almost subconsciously, he sighed, assessing her face. “Hello.” He tried, his eyes searching hers. “Hello, Zuko.” He heard a second later, her smooth voice making his heart thud erratically again. His lungs seemed out of oxygen, his mind buzzing like that of a love-sick teenager. im sorry i replaced meridith with mai i couldnt think of anyone else atm im sorry I love mai

Drabble that came to me earlier when reading hc’s about the steam babies:

Kya whirled around the kitchen grabbing various tea leaves. She expertly arranged the tray and swept past the counter to serve another customer.

She loved working at her Grandpa’s tea shop. It was refreshing and so different from the palace she was used to spending her days in. This place was absolutely bustling with activity and here she had more freedom than she ever did back in the Fire Nation. Here, she wasn’t Kya, Crown Princess of the Fire Nation, she could just be… Kya.

Iroh smiled as he watched her work. He loved the summers he got to spend with his granddaughter. She was always so keen to help out and was a ray of sunshine to his days.

She rushed past him again pulling a funny face and Iroh laughed.

She put her dirty tray down and bumped into Ran at the sink. “Hey, watch it Ky!” he complained as the bump knocked his arm straight into the sink.

“Are you a waterbender or aren’t you?” she teased, reaching for her notepad and pen.

“Yeah, but doesn’t mean I like being soaked,” he replied sulkily. “How come you get to serve and I’m stuck doing the washing up?”

“Wanna swap? There’s plenty of people who’d love to chat with the Prince of the Fire Nation out there,” she said, offering the pen and notebook with a knowing smile.

Ran rolled his eyes and tipped his head back with a weary sigh. “Why did Mum and Dad send us to work here again? You know I could’ve been at Ember Island with Shomo and Raoko right?”

“Doing really productive things I’m sure,” Kya said sarcastically.

Ran huffed, his fringe flying away from his face as he went back to his reluctant cleaning.

Kya bent under the counter to pick up a dish rag.

“Excuse me?” came a voice from above.

“Just a second,” she said, before she tossed the rag back in the sink behind her (feeling satisfied at the groan from her brother) and turned back to see the most gorgeous face she had ever seen in her life. She didn’t know eyes could be that green! He must be an earthbender, surely.

She suddenly realised she’d been gawping at him completely silent.

“Uh, what can I do for you?” she said, tucking her hair behind her ear and tugging the ends nervously, a habit she seemed to have picked up from her mother.

“Can I get a ginger tea please?” he asked.

“Oh yeah sure!” she said a tad too loudly. “You sit down and I’ll be right with you!”

She hastily made her way to the kitchen to make the tea, knocking the whole pot over in the process. “Shit…” she muttered to herself.

“Are you alright, Kya?”

She jumped at Iroh’s voice. “Yep, absolutely fine!” she said a little too quickly.

She prepped the tray, steeled herself and made her way out into the seated area. She caught his eyes and felt herself smile. Then she tripped over the green rug in the middle of the floor. With lightning reflexes she managed to right herself just as a tan hand appeared to steady the tray. “Are you ok?” the boy asked.

Kya’s eyes widened. She laughed awkwardly. “I’m fine, just fine,” she said, feeling the tips of her ears burn with a blush as she took the tray from his hands and placed it on the table. “Sorry, I spilled your tea a bit,” she said, “I can get you another-”

“No no, it’s alright,” the boy said with a kind smile.

“Ok, um, great,” Kya said. She nodded her head at him and made her way back to the kitchen as fast as possible.

The next few days the boy returned every day. One afternoon Kya was leaning on the countertop lost in her imagination.

Iroh watched from his usual seat. He followed her gaze to the handsome Earth Kingdom boy sitting by the window and chuckled to himself.

He rose from his seat and joined his granddaughter at the counter. “It appears we have a new regular!” he said.

Kya was startled from her daydreaming. “Oh, uh, yes. I mean… who?”

Iroh gestured. “He is a handsome boy is he not?”

Kya blushed. “I… wouldn’t know. I guess,” she said, winning the award for worst nonchalant answer in the world.

“Shame he always sits by himself,” Iroh said. “I would have thought he would have a girlfriend.”

“Do you think he does?” Kya asked a little too quickly.

Iroh laughed to himself but kept his features neutral. “I shouldn’t think so,” he said.

Kya’s face melted with relief. “Ok. That’s good. I mean… that’s fine. Why would I care?”

They stood in silence for a while. “I’ll take over for a while my dear, you could do with a rest,” Iroh said. “Why don’t you go and accompany our new patron?”

“What?” Kya said, instinctively clutching the notebook and pen to her. “No no no, I couldn’t do that, I couldn’t possibly-”

“Make polite conversation with our new, generous customer?”

Kya paused, stumped for a response. “Uh- no-”

“Great! You have a rest,” Iroh said, taking the notebook and pen from her gently but firmly and shooing her away from the counter.

Kya stood frozen, wrestling with herself for a bit.

She turned to face the table. She sighed and drew herself up straighter and made her way over.

“Uh, hi,” she said. The boy looked up at her and smiled.

“Hi,” he said.

“It’s- uh- nice to see you again. Here. You’re a- um- good customer,” she said. Her brain screamed at her.

The boys lips quirked up into an unfairly gorgeous smile. “Uh, thanks,” he said. “Are you… still working?”

“Me? Oh, um, my Gra….boss just said- it-it’s my break,” she managed.

The boys face lit up. “Oh well, please feel free to join me,” he said, gesturing to the chair opposite.

“Ok, thanks,” she said, managing to get through at least one sentence without stumbling over her words. Short as it was, she’d count it as a victory.

“I don’t think I’ve seen you around here before,” the boy said.

“Oh yeah, I’m just here for the summer,” she replied.

“Where are you from?” he asked.

“The Fire Nation,” she said.

“Ah, I thought so. I mean, I didn’t want to assume, but-”

“Golden eyes gave it away huh?” she said. It was a pretty dead giveaway, even if her lightly tan skin and curly hair gave away her Water Tribe heritage.

The boy nodded, smiling a bit sheepishly. “Firebender?” he asked.

She nodded. “Earthbender?” she asked.

He smiled and nodded too.

Kya readied herself for her night out.

“You tell anyone I went out, you’re dead,” she threatened her brother.

“Sheesh, calm down, I’m not telling on anyone,” he said from his position lying on the couch. “Just… be careful Kya ok?”

She rolled her eyes at him. “I’ll be fine,” she said.

“Oh and you better not bring him back here, ok? I’m not sharing an apartment with you and your new lover.”

She threw a pillow at him. “Same to you and your new fancy lady!” she retorted.

Ran’s face fell. “I- what?”

“Don’t think I didn’t notice you sneaking out last week!”

“I didn’t- she’s not-” Ran began before his face fell into a scowl and he growled in frustration. “Real nice, blackmail from the future Fire Lady, that’s comforting.”

“Shut up,” she retorted with a smile. She took one last glance in the mirror before she set off.

Later that night she crept back into the tea shop, a soft flame burning in her palm to light the way. She could hear her brother’s loud snores from outside the room. She carefully put her pack on the side and went to grab some water from the sink.

Suddenly a loud snore from the sofa made her jump and almost drop the cup. She quickly caught it and snapped her head round. She silently made her way to the sofa and peeked her head over it.

Iroh was fast asleep on the couch.

She breathed a sigh of relief and carefully crept back to the kitchen, putting the cup back in its place before quietly going back to her room.

The door closed with a soft click.

The snoring from the sofa ceased and Iroh carefully lifted his head to glance around the room. Then he chuckled to himself.

“Ah, you are both here!” Iroh said, greeting the Fire Lord and Lady enthusiastically. “We have had the most wonderful time! Ran’s been working hard in my shop and Kya has been wonderful as always. She’s even made some new friends,” he said. He glanced over at Katara with a twinkle in his eye.

Katara caught his look. She knew that look. Her gaze flicked over to her husband who, as usual, hadn’t noticed his Uncle’s tell tale signs of having some juicy gossip.

“Sit down, you must tell me all about your trip over,” Iroh said, shooing them into seats around the table.

Just then the door opened and Kya walked through, lost in a world of her own.

“Kya!” Zuko said excitedly. Kya jumped, startled at the sudden presence of her parents.

“Dad! Hi!” she said, her startled face melting into a smile.

“How’s my little sunbeam?” Zuko asked, coming over to give her a hug.

“Great, Dad,” Kya said as he squeezed her tight. She made her way over to Katara giving her a hug too.

“Had fun with Grandpa?” Zuko asked.

Kya beamed. “Of course! I actually said I’d look after the kitchen this morning though so…” she said, backing towards the door.

Zuko smiled. “Of course, I’ll come and help get heaters going.”

“Dad, I’m a firebender, you haven’t had to help me with that since I was like three,” she complained.

“Let your Dad be of assistance if he wants,” Katara said, with a patronising pat on Zuko’s shoulder. He arched an eyebrow at her and she nudged him playfully before turning back to his daughter.

Katara eyed Iroh suspiciously over the rim of her cup as Zuko and Kya left the room. Iroh’s face was impassive, as always, but Katara knew he was dying to tell her something.

“Iroh…” she said.

“Yes?” he asked.

“What do you know?”

Iroh looked around conspiratorially and leaned in. “Kya’s got a boyfriend,” he said excitedly.

Katara laughed. “Who?” she asked.

“There’s a handsome boy who comes to the tea shop, you should see her, she’s been daydreaming about him all day every day since she first laid eyes on him!”

“Oh spirits,” Katara said in mock despair.

“Reminds me of a Water Tribe girl I once had working here who could barely make the right orders because she was too distracted by the other server.”

Katara’s face suddenly became amusingly affronted. “I did not make the wrong orders! And I was not ogling Zuko!” she said.

Iroh laughed. “I believe I said ‘distracted’, my dear,” he said.

Katara blushed, as if the idea of being attracted to her husband of twenty years was still embarrassing, making Iroh laugh even more.

“What’s this boy like?” Katara said, a hint of concern in her voice. She knew her daughter could handle herself but she was all too familiar with how vulnerable feelings for someone could make you, and how much it could hurt when it didn’t go well.

“He’s very kind,” Iroh said reassuringly. “You know the day she met him she tripped over, spilled his tea everywhere!”

Katara laughed. “Oh spirits, I’d hoped she wouldn’t take after her father in this respect…”

Iroh laughed too.

Zuko walked back in and the two quickly fell quiet and went back to sipping their tea.

Zuko paused by the table. He regarded them both suspiciously.

“What did I miss?” he said, his tone heavy with suspicion.

“Nothing, my son,” Iroh said dismissively. “I was just telling Lady Katara here that it is important to spice up a marriage after such a long time together.”

Katara choked on her tea.
