OKAY, so I just learned about the Ichirou and Allison shenanigans, and have many thoughts. But mostly, I'm just thinking about how if it were to happen, then Kevin, Neil, and Jean can get away with anything and Ichirou won't do shit because they're his girlfriend's friends.

something about jean dying in all the other drafts really gets me like wdym no one would ever have known how soft and caring he was underneath it all or how he had a sister or how he put away the leftovers without asking and cared enough to ask about the safety of someone he barely knew and how he was desperate to love and be loved all along. ofcourse kevin and renee and neil wouldn't have forgotten him but they did not know all the pieces of who he was and what he survived and what he was trying to be, in his heart of hearts. jeremy will know, eventually. but what if he never did? what if no one ever ended up truly knowing him and loving him and saving him? would they piece the deepest parts of his heart by the postcards and magnets and memories of a too soft boy in a too cruel world?

There's one thing I need to know. Was if Nora's intention to reference the ancient Greek myth Paris with Jean being given that as a nickname from Thea? Or is it just about the city? I need to know I need to know.

Paris being thrown out as a little child by his parents due the prophecy that he is going to be the reason for a kingdom's collapse. Paris becoming a Prince of Troy.

Jean being sold off by his parents due to their debt to the Moriayamas. Jean being blamed for the fall Edgar Allan Ravens took. Becoming a Trojan.

Paris being tempted by three goddesses promising him great things.

Jean being fucked over by a pretty face mentioned three times.

Paris and Jean being the scape goats of their stories when acting from love and due to powers stronger than them.

I have a lot of feelings about the rise of he would not fucking say that attitudes in fandom spaces and the paralysing effect it can have on creators. As a writer i think it’s important to just write what feels true to you and not what you think others will “approve” of. Like even as a reader i have enjoyed a variety of different characterisations that all work because the writer makes them work for a particular story. And a fic that’s written out of character to some will be in character to others. Writing fic is not your job you’re not being paid it’s your hobby please. Make them as close to canon as possible. Make them completely different. Who cares! Have fun! Have so much fun! There is an audience for every kind of fic and every kind of character interpretation i promise

#as someone who writes a lot of AUs #i think its important to remember that altering the story world and plot is bound to have an impact on the characterization #characters (if they are well written) are not static #they grow and regress and react to the world around them #so if you tweak the story and the world #it only makes sense the characters would be different as well #but aside from that #the point of fanfiction is to take the source material and run wild with it #if we can accept AU's and Fix-It fics and crossover fics #then we can surely accept characters being OOC from canon now and then #its more fun that way

flyby updates: - very promising progress with regards to audiobooks & translations, but still locking a few things in. ty for your patience & sorry for the wait <3 - got the first paperback proof but the formatting was weirdly off, so made some updates and am waiting for the next proof to arrive in the mail (should be here Tuesday) - have one last round of updates for the ebooks that I haven't pushed through yet - don't remember if there was a fourth note, if I remember it I'll come back and update this post
