All of this must have alienated and confused young lesbians in the 90s and 2000s. Imagine you're a young person with a nagging curiosity about the "lesbian and gay" section in the library. You finally get up the nerve to read the lesbian book about lesbians in the lesbian section. And it's so dense with radical politics and theory you can barely read it.
It鈥檚 disheartening going back and ready lesbian non fiction books and seeing just how heavily doused in politics lesbianism was
I don鈥檛 mean in the fighting for our rights thing
Just soooo many people claiming the title lesbian as a political thing as opposed to a representation of who they are.
It makes me wonder if we didn鈥檛 have the intersection of sexism with it all how much more history we would have with women talking about their lesbianism as a love and attraction to women and less as a response to men.
Because it does a disservice to lesbians to paint our sexuality as a political act. Because it鈥檚 not. I was just born as a woman who is solely attracted to women. The world made that a political thing, not me. So to see soooo many statements about it being a choice that鈥檚 linked to politics is so disheartening and kind of homophobic.
