CAS Reflections

One of the things I most enjoyed most about Cas was the excuse to try out new things and to draw and that it pushed me to do things I would not have otherwise done. The greatest challenge was finding the time to do all the activities, because it was hard to balance time for schoolwork and Cas. I still had problems overcoming the issue entirely, however planning, and consistent work helped me organize myself to effectively balance out CAS and work. Moreover, I would usually constitute activity in my room as well as drawing or chess games as my free time. A difficulty I found was leaving my comfort zone while trying out new things, especially service. Prior to helping homeless people, I would usually avoid them. They appeared as intimidating. However, once I started interacting more and having conversations, I learned they were interesting people that had their own stories to tell and they were not as scary as I thought. While meeting up with Alek the largest struggle was speaking polish. It was difficult to engage Alek in the first place, and with the addition of my unsureness towards my polish skills it was hard for me to properly connect and talk. It was not really a matter possible to entirely overcome, however as time progressed, we developed a common understanding which helped us connect. Through CAS I achieved greater appreciation in the diversity of extracurricular activities and people.  I learned that I cannot solely focus on school and I need to adjust my time to fit other activities important for personal growth. The skills and abilities I developed most significantly was communication. I was interacting with people of various backgrounds which allowed me to develop linguistically by talking with people I would not normally talk to. Thanks to this I believe I become more tactful and developed a better understanding of others. I also expanded significantly on my art styles, which I would not have tried otherwise. I believe it helped me develop as an artist. I found the 1st learning outcome: "identification of strengths and areas for personal growth " to be the easiest to achieve because I tried out different art styles and services and I quickly realized what I enjoyed and what I did not and was able to distinguish my strengths and areas for improvement. The most difficult to achieve was the 3rd learning outcome “initiating and planning a CAS experience”. After COVID-19 it was difficult to plan and organize my CAS activities as the restriction that were imposed made it difficult to adjust. I had to drop my service and look for a new one, as well as my activity, which was biking to school. These changes made it difficult to adapt and plan out my CAS experience. This experience was only made more difficult in IB2 with all the additional work that came with the new educational year.

CAS project meeting 5

in this meeting we sat down and drew for 11 hours straight as we wanted to get this project done. Kasper and I finished our characters, unfortunately Alex was never available to finish the task, and so Kasper took over and filled in the goo that was flowing out of the boy. this style was more authentic with Alex’s charters, but was still unique to Kasper. 

The overall project was a success in my opinion, it showed me the value of collaborative projects. The varying styles and themes made the project that mush more interesting. I am so glad I was given the opportunity to collaborate with my good friends on one task. this showed the value of working together, without their help this project would have taken 3 times as long to complete.

The project will be continued, but in a different way. We will have Alex finish his figure. After Alex completes his figure will photo copy the project and post it on the internet for people to download for free allowing them to do the color in the way they see fit. This project will evolve from a three person collaborative project to a project to as large as the demand for the coloring in page.

This is my current rating. The initial spike of points that reaches over 900 is because of a friend who played for me when I first made my account. the sharp drop off was when i started playing. after my lowest point I began a steady climb which i recorded on my CAS blog. i gradually ranked up, I still intend on achieving 1200 before i go to collage, but this will have to happen after I graduate.

CAS project meeting 4

This is the start of my Final CAS project collaborative work. This project will focus on the collaboration between several people. Here we have 3 different people with three different art styles. the left most figure was my designated character, the dead character was given to my friend, Alex, who happened to offer to help when we started and the third figure was designed by my original partner Kasper. 

I went with a more cartoony style with not direct theme as well as larger characters. Alex on the other hand went with a more Drug related theme and used small characters with a lot of detail. Kasper had the most interesting figure as he created amore abstract theme. Overall all three characters look amazing and i am excited to see how the three of us will complete the assignment.

I really enjoyed my first experience with Asauna rebel. i deiced to continue it as it helped with my flexibility and my energy through out the day. I don’t think i will stop my weight and calithstnics training, I will add this lighter exercise to my routine to work on my core and flexibility.

Service 

in this meeting my internet was poor, which made it difficult to communicate with my group. Despite this impairment I was able to have a nice meeting with Alek. We talked about his dog and our pets. We also talked about school (which Alek was not too interested in so we quickly changed subjects), we also talked about TV series, as well as sports. It was a fun meeting that I enjoyed, thanks to everyone contributing and talking about things that they find interesting.

in this game I played pretty well, my opponent didn't play as well, but regardless I am proud of how it went. I had an accuracy rating of 93.3 meaning I did almost all best moves and only one blunder. The checkmate I delivered was in my opinion very clean and well though out. This was the highest ranking I got on the website. I reached a ranking of 838, this is not quite my goal but over since starting chess i managed to go up about 100 points on chess.com.

Activity

today I decided to try something new. my mother uses an app called asauna reble, it is a fitness app that provides exercises and workout routines. The exercises do not push my body in the way that weight lifting and calithstnics do, rather it focuses on the muscles that are not as readably used such as the muscles in the core. these exercises also heavily focus on flexibility, this is something that i struggle with, which has only gotten worse with sitting at my desk all day thanks to the lockdown.

CAS project 3 

In this meeting my partner and I presented to one another our sketches on how the seen would look. I had the idea of having two characters standing next to one wither its head chopped off, this was the only scene that i really wanted. My partner on the other hand came up with three sketches each presenting a different scene, we both agreed that the first two of sketches were too active and would look messy. the third sketch looked good, but it only had two figures, this limited how much we could draw. in the end we agreed upon my sketch as it was simple and allowed for the most space to work. In my sketch book i made a few sketches of doodle that i wanted to add to my piece. i used my sketch book as a way to practice before doodling on the final piece. Unfortunately my partner didn’t do this prep, this will make it difficult for him to work on the project later.

Today we had a meeting with Alek. this time it was a bit less fun as everyone else were speaking to one another. I tried to engage Alek in the conversation but everyone was talking to one another about school making it difficult to talk. the mocks were around the corner making the meeting stressful and a bit unpleasant. Hopefully next week the meeting will be better seeing that the mocks will be officially behind us.

this game of chess was interesting, wasn't doing to well, you can see by the odds in the top right. despite not playing too well, I won after he blundered his rook and decided to resign. This wasn’t my best game, but i felt that i should post it as this was the game that got me a rating of 800 on chess.com. this was exciting and as this was the first big milestone i had hit since i started playing chess.

today I did standard weight lift training. I did the 4 reps on the bench press, 18/116/12/10 reps. the first three reps i benched 40 kg and the last rep was with 35 kg

Service

Today only Kaya and I were the only ones able to make it for the meeting as everyone else were busy. this made the meeting more direct which meant i had to be more active with Alek then i usually was, which was difficult because my polish makes conversation difficult sometimes. Despite this meeting being a bit  more difficult it was very fun and interesting, because it was just Kaya and I, I felt that i created a better connection with Alek. I think this will translate to a deeper connection between us. I hope this translates to him talking to me more in future meetings.

CAS project meeting 2

after a couple days of thinking we came discussed our ideas. after our discussion we more or less presented what conclusions we came to. this was a bit shorter meeting but we ended up agreeing on a style and artistic discussion. in the end we decided to create an outline of the characters and fill them in with doddles, reminiscent of gawx art’s work. the doodles would have references to games, events or just random designs we are fond of.  after this meeting we agreed that we need to find some time to make a couple basic sketches.

after a few more days of proactive I’ve gotten better. my accuracy went up to 72.8 and I’ve risen 30 points. this game was interesting because at first i was losing until i created a revealed attack on the queen while putting his king in check. this was the turning point in the match that turned the tides and lead me to win. 

It was a fun game I noticed that i can see moves several steps ahead allowing to make moves like the discovered attack on the queen. What I did see after analyzing this game was that i am still not fully aware of the board and I suffer from tuner vision that leads to blunders.
