How to start again ✨
delete apps and social media that lowers your mood 
wear a new scent, throw away things you don’t need, delete contacts of people who make you feel unworthy, unfollow social media that makes you feel bad in any way
make a new playlist that makes you feel confident and happy 
in a journal, write down why you want to change, the traits of the person you truly want to be, the places you want to go and people that make you feel inspired
write down the things that stop you and bad habits you have, and replace those with new mindsets and habits 
before you sleep, make a detailed, achievable routine for the next day, that includes everything you want to do, including activities that genuinely make you happy
try new hobbies, like baking/cooking, playing a musical instrument, making art, learning a new skill, a sport, or a new language. you can easily get free resources online 
think about the ideal version of yourself. you can be like that, if you try your best and work hard. 
do not overwork yourself or set overly lofty daily goals and forget to do things like drink water. make your sleep and health your number one priority.
spend less time on your phone scrolling through social media. have a method of focusing on other things, like Pomodoro method or using the Forest app. 
if you can’t concentrate, commit yourself to doing it for 5 minutes. once you get into the flow it’s much easier to concentrate.
be patient and kind with yourself. it’s hard to change overnight. you’re the only one who can help change you, so be a friend to yourself.
once you start something, promise yourself you will finish it. 
have new weekly routines, like going to a cafe every Wednesday afternoon or indulging in your favourite tv show every Friday night.
do not deny yourself of good things; there needs to be a balance. similarly, do not be too generous and overdo it too much. 
dedicate a day to clean your room and organize your things if you feel stressed out. 
it may feel scary to change, as you may feel like it’s not the real you. but you’re still you, just the best version of yourself.
have a relaxing morning routine to look forward to, like making a nice breakfast, having a skin care routine, stretches, journalling, or thinking about nothing for a few minutes
have a mental image that makes you excited to do something. visualize yourself completing the goal and concentrate on it every morning.
however, learn not to rely on motivation because your brain will often turn off motivation, especially when you first begin something. have a routine, a specific time to do something, and do it. 
notice the places and people that drain your energy, and try to avoid them. find people who make you feel energized and places that calm you.
think about an enjoyable part of something. for example, when studying you can look forward to learning new things and when exercising, listening to calming music or using nice stationery. it’s actually more fun than you think. 
even though it’s hard, don’t compare yourself. you’re on your own path, and it doesn’t matter if people are better than you, because there will always be someone better than everyone. don’t be afraid to suck. so draw badly, write bad poems, run slowly, make embarrassing mistakes and fail everything. you can’t be good at something unless you’re terrible at something first. and doing anything badly is so much better than doing nothing.
don’t tell anyone about your new beginning, just start and let the results speak for themselves.
you can change and be your ideal self. but it will be hard to do that if you don’t believe in yourself. so make sure you challenge negative thoughts telling you can’t do something. tell yourself firmly that you can do it and then prove your negative thoughts wrong.

Is there a skill you’ve always wanted to master someday, but kept procrastinating on? A language you started learning – then abandoned? A topic in class you’ve never quite grasped? Or maybe you just want to expand your horizon and try something new? Distract yourself from your usual studies?
This challenge is the perfect opportunity to achieve that! Pick a skill and see how much you can improve and grow in 30 days – or really start working on your to-read list (I know those books have been piling up), your portfolio for that dream job in Illustration you want, or your blog you’ve been meaning to post more original content on.
Self-growth and development are so, so important, which is the main reason why I created this challenge.
The idea of this challenge is that people from all communities come together to gain knowledge, add skills and just have fun with the amazing amount of resources out there. This way, we can all support and motivate each other, whatever field you might be interested in.
Post an introduction with the hashtag #30dol with your goals and expectations for the month, and what your current level is. (Of course, you can join in later as well, but it’s fun to start a the same time!) In the end, you’ll be able to compare and see how much has changed!

design/illustration ( stickers and illustration, character illustration, Ink Illustration, 45 best adobe illustrator tutorials, 
business/freelance/open your own shop (tips on how to open your own sticker shop, digital skills: web analytics and marketing)
languages (apps like lingodeer, duolingo, lingvist, busuu, blogs like @lovelybluepanda. there are also so many pdfs and amazing websites out there depending on your target language!)
online mass education courses (edx, coursera, skillshare, futurelearn where universities and professionals teach you about their subject - be that astronomy, engineering, ancient greek history, artificial intelligence or medicine!)
social media (learn to take iphone photos for your tumblr or instagram, and here’s a great post by @studyquill on how to start and maintain a studyblr!)
photography (travel street photography, find photographers you admire like annie leibovitz or henri cartier bresson and read about their path, or browse youtube channels like negative feedback which specialize on photography)
creative writing (there are tons of workshops online - you could also try to set yourself a piece or word limit similar to nanowrimo) 
culinary (check recipe websites, or challenge yourself to try one new recipe a day, or dedicate the month to a specific cuisine)
music (learn music production, andrew huang has also made a video on how to start making music here)
film and filmmaking (karsten runquist’s channel is wonderful for film analysis,  learn about cinematography basics here and film history here)
painting (acrylic painting, sketchbook illustration. you could challenge yourself to fill an entire sketchbook/create a piece every day or week, or to improve a specific technique) 
Every resource linked is free (if you click on the links you can get Skillshare for free for two months and cancel anytime), so all you need is some free time and lots of motivation!!
I’m very happy to be announcing this to you all, and will be working on my Japanese for this challenge – so excited to see what you all and I will do and how far we can come!

As my school year finished, I figured out I could share a few study tips on how you can learn and memorize information, like history dates, names or vocabulary, more quickly and efficiently !! I was in two years in a class where I was supposed to learn a lot in very little time so I developped tricks to be able to remember things more easily. These tips will probably be common but they really worked for me, and they can be especially useful to french students in high school or in college (but it can be useful to everybody too!!)
i. understand what you have to learn.
Trying to remember a lot of dates isn’t easy, especially when there’s a lot in a small time. You need to know what happened on the date and the details on how history goes, and you also need to understand why it happens. When you have understood how it goes from date A to date B, you will more easily remember the dates, and you will be able to make your history essay better. Learning history by reading history books specifically on the subject can be helpful too. The same applies to vocabulary as knowing the etymology of words can be a good way to learn vocabulary, especially when it is in latin or in ancient greek.
ii. rewrite your notes.
Not necessarily in an aesthetic way, but you can write the essential informations on paper in order to have the most important aspects of what you need to learn in something you can reread quickly. You can also do it on a computer if you had paper notes. As I usually wrote in class on paper, I rewrote nearly everything (as I usually need to know the details to understand everything) on my computer, then printed these notes and read it first with highlighters (yellow for informations and green for quotes/important names) and then with a pencil to underline the most important aspects or the conclusions. Reading multiple times, but always remaining active during your reading, can be all the more efficient if you do it everyday, not in one time ; if you read your notes everytime you have a break, you will learn it better than if you read it again and again on one night because you will slowly memorize how the things work and fit together. The same can be done to extracts of books or texts you need to learn, especially in history.
iii. talk.
If you repeat your notes to yourself it might work, but I usually held small classes in my group of friends to make them learn, for example, history or philosophy lessons. When you need to explain something, with or without your notes, you will be able to memorize the bigger picture and what happens in the detail at the same time. Doing it a day or two before the test is also an efficient way of seeing what you know and what you don’t know yet. This is especially useful when you have an essay to write : you will be able to see directly what you need to say.
iv. use apps.
This is especially useful for vocabulary (I don’t use apps for other things, and the app I use the most for vocabulary is called PONS) : vocabulary apps have a lot of “games” that can help you learn vocabulary quicker as you will be active when learning and not passive ; learning vocabulary by reading again and again a list is not really going to help you.
v. have breaks.
Reading again and again your notes intensively for a long period of time won’t help you have a clear mind : do a break every 30 minutes or every hour with something that doesn’t require much your brain, like going on social networks, but always for a small amount of time. Moreover, studying all day the day before the test will only confuse you. Start learning sooner (one week before?) and do something else the day before, especially on the afternoon (like having a walk, listening to music, ..) and read everything again on the evening, before going to bed. You can also wake up earlier and read your notes directly after waking up, as your head will be empty and informations will come more easily.
→ Studying is not only about notes and learning, but also about your lifestyle. Go to bed early, do other things beside school, take afternoons to do something else, start learning and doing your homework way before the due date. This will help you have a healthier body and mind. Don’t neglect your mental and physical health as it can be also essential on the day of a test !

How to learn a language and its culture together

If you were going to start a garden to prepare for the apocalypse, what would you plant? Housemates and I decided that was a better use of our anxiety than playing zombie games and I don’t have anyone else to ask.
1. Potatoes. Best starch and caloric yield per acre of just about any food.
2. Tomatoes. Easy to can or dry, tasty, high in nutrients.
3. Corn, beans, and squash, planted Three Sisters style. All are nutritious, and planted this way the beans put back into the soil the nitrogen the corn uses. If you plant dent or flour corn and dry beans and sun-dry the squash, all store well. 
4. Mint. It’s useful for minor aches and pains in salve, it’s good for upset stomachs, and it’s quite tasty.
5. Hot peppers. Tasty, and also useful for aches and pains.
6. An assortment of herbs for both seasoning and medicinal use.

How to remain productive with online classes:
A few tips from a broke neuro-divergent academic
Try and wake up early, and go to bed early too. I’m not saying get up at 5 (unless that’s you’re thing) but sleeping into noon is a productivity blackhole. I go for 8 or 8:30, generally, but that’s just what works for me.
Get dressed for the day. I’m not talking like, jeans and a business casual outfit, but a clean pair of sweatpants, fresh underwear, and a new shirt can really put you in the mood for a new morning.
Have a workspace. Whether it be the kitchen table, a desk, a spot on the floor with a lap desk, have a place that’s dedicated to your work. Have items that signify that workspace too, like your book, planner, laptop, lamp, whatever. It can help you get into the zone, being in that space.
Have a morning drink. I choose earl grey tea with honey and cream, but black coffee, herbal tea, lemon water, whatever works for you is awesome, as long as itll wake you up and start your day.
To do lists. To do lists and to do lists and more to do lists. I have three. One is a post it weekly planner deal (3.99 at a local grocery store). it’s a weekly spread already set up, and if you’re anything like me, its really hard to set up a weekly spread. Then I have an app called Ike. I have a daily to do list I write on that app, and then I have four more to-do lists of what I have to for each specific class.

Spread out your assignments. Don’t overwhelm yourself. If you’re professors are like mine, and have the due date for each module as Sunday at midnight. What I do is spread out all my assignments from Monday to Saturday, and I leave Sunday blank, so anything I didn’t do that week, I finish on Sunday. It works for me, it might work for you.
Have a folder for each class, and a notebook for each class. I hate spending money, I’m broke as hell, sono al verde as the Italians say, but a 0.99 cent folder and a 0.25 cent notebook can do wonders for motivating one to fill them up.
Study with a drink. Tea, water, coffee, whatever, but my go to is generally a warm drink. I cannot study if I’m cold, I get tired and groggy, so warm socks, a robe, and a hot drink really keep me going.
Take breaks. Make time for your hobbies, for something fun. Working without stopping absolutely destroys my motivation, and let me tell you, when I feel like that, an episode of Avatar and a snack gets me right back on the wagon.
Do self check ins. Does your back hurt? Are you sad? Stressed? Do you have to pee? Are you hungry? Never put your homework over your health. You won’t be able to get anything done well anyway if you’ve got those blocks.
Most importantly, get enough sleep. I beg of you. Sleep is so important, and it’s the game changer, at least to me. We as students have such an amazing opportunity to get more sleep than we ever have before during the year. Take advantage of that.
