I love how in the Dracula Daily fandom, we don’t say that we are beginning once again on May 3rd.

Rather, we say “my dear friend Johnathan is preparing for his upcoming trip. I hope he has such a wonderful time and that he brings back some delicious recipes :)”

I emerge briefly from the fog, on this, the second (2) semester of the PhD. The good things:

-I got a lot of writing done this semester

-I have a summer job- wheeeeee!

-I have the beginnings of a dissertation committee

This semester got a little rough on my psyche for one reason or another; part of me thinks I overworked myself too early, and part of me thinks I just haven't recovered fully from my MA. My breaks were never enough rest, and I got caught in this semester-long cycle of doing nothing over weekends and regretting that immensely when the week started. We are down to final papers and I feel like I just caught up with the semester itself, woof. My plan is, outside of work this summer- to rest and recover my mental/physical wellbeing. Build by some good, healthy routines and look forward to the final semester of coursework. But we did survive that first year. That counts for something.
