i took elvish in school and i fucking hated it. the teacher was like 700 years old and he'd like take us on field trips to sit on the banks of babbling brooks and watch the fall of sunlight through the leaves. my friends in spanish class were like conjugating verbs and shit and meanwhile i was in an old-growth forest being overcome with awe at the sight of a majestic stag. like uhh yeah mr autumnheart when are we gonna learn like any grammar "listen to the murmur of the wind in the treetops, and you shall find the grammar you seek" like fuck dude your pedagogy leaves much to be desired

this post is about spiders

I'm scared of spiders just as much as the next guy. I do however, own several of them as pets at this point (hands off, display pets only as my fear keeps me from ever wanting to actually touch one), including a black widow and as of today, a brown recluse. And i know that they're the United States boogey monsters of spiders, but the lack of knowledge around them from the general population is staggering, and im getting kind of tired of it. Every single person in my life has reacted with anger and horror at my perceived stupidity from "Keeping an animal that can and will kill you if given the chance". And very few people are even willing to believe me when I tell them the truth.

Like the fact is that it just isn't true that either spider can kill me. Unless im allergic to them, which would be like winning the lottery (of pain and death), then I as a healthy adult cannot be killed, not even close. I'm not saying they're puppies or anything, they do have a medically significant bite, or more accurately- they can have a medically significant bite. But they can also choose how much venom to deliver in a bite, and they do not want to waste it for something that isn't prey.

Both of these spiders are also incredibly shy, and you have to be actively squishing them to death for them to want to bite at all. If i was bitten by either of these spiders, i would spend an afternoon at the ER, and then go home and for the next few weeks/months (depending on venom amount), i'll be in a good deal of pain while i recover. Is it a walk in the park? absolutely not. But these spiders just.. aren't life threatening. I also don't plan on touching them at all let alone harassing them aggressively enough to get any kind of bite.

my friend is getting a tattoo in a few days & i asked to go w/ her bc i want to get one, too. and she said the studio told her she had to come alone.... and now i feel like they are serial killers and she's walking into a Dexter trap? my tattooed friends... is this common? I've never been to a tattoo place that had a rule like that.. don't like 95% of people getting tattooed bring a plus 1? idk this is like SUPER weird to me but maybe i've just had several especially chill artists?

Tbh, I don't think chatgpt was ever going to be helpful on that particular subject. Google searches and asks sent to LGBT information blogs might be a better route if you ever decide to try understanding again later. I don't use them personally, but the way I see it, neopronouns are just like any other word used to describe a person. Nicknames, labels, pronouns: people are just using whatever words they feel match up best. People who like more than one gender could all identify as bi if they wanted, but for some, a different word feels like a better fit. As far as grammar, you can always ask on a case by case basis, and I'm sure anyone would get it if you messed up sometimes. But yeah, even Wikipedia would probably be a better resource than a chat bot.

I feel that the thing i dont understand about it would be taken as too pedantic to be worth explaining. And because of that, no google search would give me an answer specific enough for the questions. And yeah chatgpt is definitely not the best option, but i feel uncomfortable requesting of someone for whom this is a personal topic to have patience while they overexplain something that im not getting on an abstract level. I've been going in circles with chatgpt for almost 3hours now about this 😂 because i still havent given up lol.

But to stop being so vague about it, what I don't understand is how a neo-pronoun can resonate with a person. Like, what is it about a particular neo-pronoun that speaks to someone over a more traditional pronoun? This is difficult for me to understand because there is nothing i can compare it to in my own experience. Like, for me I feel that my reasons for my pronouns are not the same reasons someone with neo-pronouns may have. And as far as it being similar to bisexuality, that comparison confuses me because if i idenfity as (for instance) pansexual over bisexual, it would be because to me, pansexual carries a meaning that isnt captured by "bisexual". It would be because, to me, those words, while similar, are not actually synonymous. So if that is also the case with traditional pronouns vs. Neo pronouns, then my question is: what is it about "zir" (for instance) that means something different than a more traditional pronoun like "them" if both suggest a gender identity that is outside of the binary? What does "zir" mean that "they" isn't capturing? What quality of "zir" resonates more than "they"?

Clearly these questions can be subjective and are likely to have different answers from different people. And im also not asking you to answer these for me, anon, just to be clear. Im just explaining my thoughts, and why wikipedia or a google search wouldnt help me answer this. You're right in that I would probably need to ask real people for their insights into this. But im afraid of coming off as disingenuous or even just annoying by being so.. philosophical about my misunderstanding of what i think is supposed to be not this complicated, & im really not looking to upset or offend anyone.

Honestly, you guys. I think im just gonna have to call it, and accept that there's some kind of mental disconnect for me, to where i simply do not have the capacity to understand neo-pronouns. Like I've been trying to get ChatGPT to explain it to me (because my non-understanding is so fundamental that i worry if i asked a real person, they'd find my ignorance and repetitive lack of understanding offensive or purposeful, even though it definitely isnt purposeful, nor is it malicious) and im genuinely starting to think that there is an abstract quality to this concept that i just am not capable of grasping. And don't get it twisted, this is not me saying "neo pronouns are stupid, fuck y'all". Im just saying i dont get it, and at this point, i dont think i ever will, or am even able to. But i dont need to in order to live and let live. I'll just keep respecting ppls pronouns but I think i have to give up in actually understanding 😔

First leopard gecko build 🥰 this is the first time I've ever tried custom-building my own setup, and it's finally done. Just had to post it because even though it's not perfect im actually really happy how this turned out and im sure my new leopard gecko will love it.
