george russell was interviewed during the drivers parade, china - april 21, 2024 (transcript under the cut)

Interviewer: "George, last time you were here you were a Formula 1 rookie. Now you return as a grand prix winner. How much are you enjoying this weekend and this magnificent circuit?" George: "Yeah, it's amazing to be back in Shanghai. So many amazing fans here supporting a lot of people, especially this guy to my right. But yeah, we're just excited for the race this afternoon. Starting P8, hoping we can move forward and go from there." Interviewer: "You ran softs yesterday, the only driver to do so. How much knowledge, how much confidence, does that give you for the grand prix today?" George: "Yeah, the soft was working well. Recommend the other drivers to try it out and give it a go and go from there, so… No, it was not a bad tire, but today's gonna be a very different day. I think there's gonna be a good fight on our hands with McLanre, with Fernando, and hopefully we can be up there with Ferrari, as well." Interviewer: "Lovely stuff. Thank you, George."

Oscar:

- says swap was fair

- acknowledges lando qualifying ahead and different strategies in place

- doesn’t undermine his own strong performance but knows lando was quicker at that point

- places the team first to maximize the joint result

Lando:

- recognizes his own strong performance and doesn’t play down his result that was achieved on merit

- thanks oscar for making his life easier and reiterating that they have a lot of respect for each other

- appreciates that it must’ve been incredibly difficult for oscar to swap bc it’s his home race and thanks him for his contribution to the team

both drivers show such respect and admiration for each other while believing in their own abilities and performances, let’s as fans do the same please
