THE NEW YORK TIMES instructed journalists covering Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip to restrict the use of the terms “genocide” and “ethnic cleansing” and to “avoid” using the phrase “occupied territory” when describing Palestinian land, according to a copy of an internal memo obtained by The Intercept. The memo also instructs reporters not to use the word Palestine “except in very rare cases” and to steer clear of the term “refugee camps” to describe areas of Gaza historically settled by displaced Palestinians expelled from other parts of Palestine during previous Israeli–Arab wars. The areas are recognized by the United Nations as refugee camps and house hundreds of thousands of registered refugees.
The Times memo outlines guidance on a range of phrases and terms. “The nature of the conflict has led to inflammatory language and incendiary accusations on all sides. We should be very cautious about using such language, even in quotations. Our goal is to provide clear, accurate information, and heated language can often obscure rather than clarify the fact,” the memo says. “Words like ‘slaughter,’ ‘massacre’ and ‘carnage’ often convey more emotion than information. Think hard before using them in our own voice,” according to the memo. “Can we articulate why we are applying those words to one particular situation and not another? As always, we should focus on clarity and precision — describe what happened rather than using a label.” Despite the memo’s framing as an effort to not employ incendiary language to describe killings “on all sides,” in the Times reporting on the Gaza war, such language has been used repeatedly to describe attacks against Israelis by Palestinians and almost never in the case of Israel’s large-scale killing of Palestinians.

Even though Swedish media has been changing it’s tune to be more empathetic with Palestine, it’s still being fucking embarrassing.
“It’s incredibly hard getting in necessities right now because of rigorous control and the harsh rules inside of Gaza”. Controls by who?? Rules created and upheld by what nation? What army? This almost makes it sound like it’s the Gazans themselves who’ve made up hard rules, not the IDF.
Not to mention that most of their articles on the conflict STILL to this day start with “After Hamas attack against Israel 7 oct…” STILL that is the first sentence you see when you want to read what’s been happening.

UNRWA, ANERA and WCK have all been forced to pause or halt their humanitarian operations in Gaza because Israel has deliberately targeted any means of lifesaving aid to a starved, maimed, and tortured population of over 2 million Palestinians, almost half of which are children.
This has been broadcasted by Israel so that it sets the precedent of what is deemed permissible in the face of "international law". I said it before, it does not get any more obviously genocidal than this.

i wake up thirsty and i think of palestine. i go to the doctor’s office and i think of palestine. a sign in the corner of the waiting room says ‘this is a place of healing, disruptive behavior will not be tolerated’ and i think of palestine. they probably weren’t thinking of bombs and snipers and mass graves in parking lots. i call my parents and i think of palestine. i drive to the grocery store and i think of palestine. i look at the clear blue sky and i think of palestine. i put the dishes away and i think of palestine. i feed my cat and i think of palestine. i listen to music and i think of palestine. i read poetry and i think of palestine. i text my friends and i think of palestine. i think of palestine and i think of palestine and i think of palestine

Seeing footage of the aftermath of the flour massacre in Gaza is so painful
"Where is my daughter? Tell her I don't want flour anymore"
"My brother was shot holding a bag of flour. He kept holding on to it so they kept shooting him"
"Why does flour have to be stained with blood?"
Over 100 have been killed. Every single one of them hungry. Every single one of them has someone waiting for them to come back with the bag of flour.
Israel is using starvation as a weapon of war against innocent civilians. Israel ambushes starving Palestinians and shoots them. Israel is not fighting a war to defend itself. This is another episode of Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Remember when Emmy Rossum made that post about how important it is to believe in and stand up for women who have been assaulted, no matter who they are, referring to Oct 7.
Where the fuck are her posts now that Palestinian women are speaking up, huh? Where are any of the celebrities decrying the importance of believing and protecting women?

Talk about “write what you know”: Suzanne Collins literally wrote a multi-million-dollar bestselling franchise that presents a war within a dystopian society through the lens of television production. Of course the Games are a reality show, but even in Mockingjay, when most other stories of this type would be giving us battle scenes, the story remains focused on the media behind the war. Studio sessions and costume design and voice-over work. Not just creating battle plans but creating narratives. Even in the story’s final battle, Katniss isn’t a military leader on the front lines. She’s there filming commercials. For the most part, she’s not fighting alongside soldiers, but befriending cameramen and producers. It gives the story a much different flavor than the typical “overthrow the evil government” narrative and allows it to explore different questions about the nature of warfare. And it’s all because Collins let her own experience add color to the story. Which I think is brilliant.

it just broke that israel has seized 1,977 acres of west bank land for settlement, which marks the largest land theft since 1993. west bank raids are also seeing an all-time high, with a reuters article stating a series of israeli raids raised the palestinian death toll in the west bank to 10. there are palestinians being abducted as well, a lot of whom are children. the west bank is slowly being eaten up by both israeli settlers and raids, but this is barely being covered by mainstream media.
