I say starlight! You write both sides - the feels and the angst, but also the happy and the funny - perfectly. I've read funny fics that still had lines that gave me chills, and I've read angsty fics that still had lines that made me laugh out loud - and that's not even talking about your original works!
Yep. Starlight for you. :)
@clawedandcute @choasuqeen @fashionable-hamster reblog this so I can tell you what your writing style reminds me of 😤💜

Whoa, someone has good taste :3
I mean, "Can't Catch Me Now"? "Rain Clouds"?? That's like one of my top favourite Arcadian Wild songs of all time!
Also, I hadn't heard the others before, but I listened to them and WOW. Definitely a fan. "Shine" especially was really beautiful.
when you get this ask you have to answer with 5 of ur fav songs and then send this ask to 10 of ur favourite followers :) (no pressure <3)
Thank you for the ask, and happy Easter! :)
Slightly random list, but all things I like for sure:
O filii et filiae
Rain Clouds by Arcadian Wild
You Can't Catch Me Now from The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Shine by Vienna Teng
Call Them Brothers by Regina Spektor
(All links are spotify except for the first, which links to a website with recording.)

Has anybody ever had a thing happen on AO3 where your hits on a work don't go up, but you suddenly have like 9 new guest kudos for no reason? I think I got botted.

See, this is the trouble with being a writer: when you see a movie or show or book that handles a good idea or character poorly, your Writer Brain keeps giving you cool ways the writers of the thing could’ve done it better (like, so much better). It would’ve been so simple, but they didn’t do that! And you can’t do anything about it, because you have too many other things to write, and you don’t even really know how to make it, but it wOn’T lEaVe YoU aLoNe—

If anybody’s watched through Season 1 of “The Way Home”, and thought that Elliot went a little haywire in the last episode, this post is for you.
See, in Elliot’s last scene of the season, he broke up with Kat. But the pretense for it is basically “I’ve suddenly contracted Disney Princess Syndrome and now I’m discontent with the very good place I’m in”.
(I mean honestly, what man who’s loved a girl unrequited since he was a teenager—and who just won that girl’s heart!—throws all that away for the sake of some vague sense of self-discovery?)
It’s annoying. What’s more, it doesn’t make sense, for him or in general. It’s just done to keep up the “will-they-won’t-they” drama going on, and it does it poorly.
But… what if that’s not why he parted ways with Kat? What if there was a different reason—one much deeper and more compelling?
Well, I’m about to tell you.
(By the way, this isn’t really a theory, but more of a suggestion for an alternate version that I think would’ve worked better.)
So. Elliot.
Ever since he was a teenager, he’s known, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that he wasn’t going to end up with Kat. But, on the flip side, he’s also known, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that he and Kat were going to be alive for the next 23 years. No matter what happened, all those years they were apart, he knew neither of them could die, because Alice said they wouldn’t. It’s sort of a tragic stability—they’ll live without each other, but they’ll live.
He’s never had to be afraid of death, for himself or for her.
But all that changes when the 23 years run out.
This could explain why he kept trying to get Alice not to go—obviously, she’s going to go, because she already did, you can’t stop that. Whatever happens has already happened. But the more trips she makes, the closer she gets to her last trip. And as soon as that last trip is over, the stability is gone. All the prophecies are fulfilled. All the time he had knowing he (and Kat) were indestructible is spent, right when they finally find themselves together.
And now what? He’s spent all these years knowing the future, or at least part of it. But now, it’s a pure unknown. For all he knows, he could die tomorrow, or Kat, or Alice. (And he’s seen how quickly a happy family can be shattered—though he doesn’t realize it as much as the Landrys, it scarred him too.)
Elliot is a scientific man. To him, the future has always had a stabilizing element, even if it’s painful. Now that it’s gone, he can’t function. There’s too many variables. And he can’t live the perfect dream when he knows he could wake up any moment. Kat tries to get him to change his mind, but he doesn’t listen. He has to find something to stabilize it again.
This could drive conflict in Season 2 that makes sense—Kat, having to reach out to one of the two people who stabilized her throughout this whole thing (and the man she’s fallen in love with). Plus Alice, of course, having to be the sensible one this time around, the one calling out a friend who’s caught up in the wrong time.
This could drive plot points—Elliot’s been taking notes throughout the whole season, trying to figure out how the Pond works. Maybe he uses them now to try to find that stabilizing element, work around the variables, eliminate the unknown. Maybe he discovers new things about the Pond that are vital to the story; helpful, or dangerous.
And this could play to so many themes—the Landrys, especially Del and Kat, were afraid of facing the past, but Elliot is afraid of facing the future. He has to learn to face it the same way they learned to face the past, which is together. He has to learn to live with the variables. And he has to learn to risk in the face of the unknown.
GOSH, it could’ve been good.

Unfortunate, but also untrue, so it balances out XD
Also, did not know "What’s My Age Again" was a 1999 song! That makes so much more sense of that one episode of "The Way Home"!
At least im not 23

Ruth is a sweetheart, and I forgot I had this scheduled for her birthday, but it was nice to remind myself of it :)
OC Birthday Facts: Ruth
Birthday: March 8 (she’s actually 8 at the time of the story)
How she usually spends it: As we’ve said, the tradition is for them all to go out for a special day in town, and the birthday child would pick somewhere to go and somewhere to eat. Ruth was very little for most of these, but I think she would always shout, increasingly closer to the top of her lungs, “Park!” And despite Seth’s consistent complaints that the park is so boring, that’s where they’d go every time. They’d walk around, play, climb trees, pick flowers (and sometimes get in trouble for it, depending on the park). They’d usually have at least a small picnic, just for the principle of the thing. But for their actual meal, they’d usually just go eat at whatever place caught her eye on the way back to the car or house. Nowadays, she usually settles for the picnic, but everything else is about the same. Parks don’t cost money, and she’s happy that way.
How she would choose to spend it: Well, if she were to do anything different, she’d want to see more flowers. The parks are always super nice, but there’s never enough flowers. She wants to go to a field or something that has lots of flowers everywhere, and there’s all sorts of pretty colours and sizes, and you can pick as many as you want.
Favorite birthday dessert: Lemon Jell-O cake. That’s usually what she picks. Although, she also quite liked it when, one year, they couldn’t find the cake pan and made the cake/Jell-O mix into cookies instead.
Best birthday in her past: I’d say her sixth birthday. That’s the one she remembers most clearly, and it was her last birthday with her parents. She got all dressed up in her prettiest yellow dress, and they went to the park. But then it turned out to be all rainy when they got there. The others thought that ruined the whole thing, but Ruth wasn’t the least bothered by the rain. So they stayed. She played and jumped in puddles and got all wet and made her dress all muddy. But she got in a splash fight with the boys and Daddy, and she remembers all of them laughing, and it was so much fun. Then when it started getting a little heavier rain, they ran to find a place to hide. Seth found them a perfect spot: a gazebo that fit all five of them, surrounded by flowers. He said he was just looking for a dry spot, but she’s convinced he picked that one specially for her. She could just tell. Then they had their picnic in the gazebo—a tea party picnic at that, a surprise from Mommy. It was a while before they left, so they ended up just going home after that. She fell asleep in the car, leaning on Ty’s shoulder, muddy, exhausted, and the happiest she remembers being.
Worst birthday in her past: Not that she remembers, but it was probably her second birthday. She was just a little baby then, but she was miserably sick with a fever, and wouldn’t stop crying. She could hardly even sleep, she was feeling so bad. If you ask her, though, Ruth will probably say she hasn’t had a worst birthday.
Best gift: To be honest, if you asked her, she wouldn’t be able to decide. Her doll, Daisy! No, the drawing book she used all the time! No, the princess dress with the poofy sleeves! No, the shoes that were all pretty and sparkly! Most of her presents have had a turn at the top. In her heart, though, the gift she loves the most is probably one she doesn’t even remember getting. The day she was born, her daddy and Ty and even Seth each picked her a different flower and gave it to her and Mommy. Daddy got it on film, like he did with a lot of their birthdays. Then, when she was little, Ruth watched that video, and she was in absolute awe of the whole thing. She never forgot it, either.
Worst gift: Probably one of those little variety boxes of little cookie things from her grandma before she died. It looked really neat, but Ruth literally couldn’t find any of them she liked.
What she says she wants: Honestly, she’ll probably tell you some random really cool and elaborate thing that ends up turning into some adventure or other. Like she’ll start by saying she wants a fairy princess dress, and then she can go and hang out with the other fairy princesses, but then there’ll be a secret evil changeling sneaking into the fairy castle and she’ll find out, and she’ll have to warn the fairy queen, but then he turns into a dragon and… well, you get the idea. That’s part of why she gets such a kick out of Ty’s birthday gift ideas.
What she actually wants: Not much, really. I think she just wants her own little garden. The kind of place where she would plant all her favourite flowers, and Seth would spray the sprinkler on her to be silly, and Ty would help her put rocks around the path, and they’d all be there, and they wouldn’t have to leave, and the world wouldn’t be any bigger than that place and that day. That’s all.
As always, thanks goes to @isfjmel-phleg for the template! I'm really enjoying these.
