Camino-Chemin-Weg-Way
With a large collection of pictures of the various routes to the pilgrimage destination of Santiago de Compostela in far Northwest Spain, I have decided to post selected ones. Unlike the usual trip diary, these are photos illustrating various aspects of the ways, including signs, sculptures, architecture, and landscapes.
Unless otherwise noted, all photographs are mine, and I retain copyright to them.

Sendero, Camino Francés entre León y Puente de Órbigo, 2011.
When I first walked the Cabin Francés in 1998 much of the path was adjacent to or in a few cases on the verges of roads, some of them quite busy. It is now possible to walk almost the entire distance on separated senderos, sometimes a few meters from the highway but more often often at a more comfortable distance, and in some places away from major roads altogether. There are several routes between León and Puente, and at least one is well away from highways, but the shortest distance is alongside the highway as shown here. The weather on the day this was taken was forecast to be exceptionally hot, so the best decision was to leave León at dawn and take the shortest route in order to arrive before the heat of the afternoon..
