Why Diet & Exercise Do Not Work for Weight Loss? Weight loss is not about restricting calories and exercising to create a calorie deficit. It is a self-love and healing journey of the body, mind, and soul. Calories in and calories out have nothing to do with your weight. That's why calorie deficit does not work. Of course, if you starve yourself long enough, you'll lose the weight. Look at concentration camp victims in World War II. But the weight always comes back plus a few extra friends (pounds). In fact, extreme calorie restriction may further ruin your metabolism and relationship with food. This is shown in a starvation study from World War II, which can’t be duplicated nowadays because starving human beings are inhuman and unethical. So stop starving your body and start loving it. A #healthyeating lifestyle to lose weight is not about restricting food or restricting calories. It's about eating the right foods that fuel and nurture your body, mind and soul. The best eating lifestyle for YOU is one that includes foods that your body recognizes and able to use to fuel and nurture your body and soul. Foods should be something you enjoy and makes you feel good physically and mentally. Many people, especially women, develop poor relationships with food consciously and subconsciously through years of diet to achieve the body image they think will get them what they want - the attention from the opposite sex, approval from well-meaning relatives, protection, punishment, etc. Remember, no food is off limit, even the bad ones, because you have CHOICES. Making bad choices does not make you a bad person, low life, loser, or stupid. It only shows you're human. A overly restricted diet created bad relationship with food, because every time you deviate from your strict dietary rules, it lowers your #selfesteem because you've broken a rule. The Look Good Feel Good Lifestyle eating plan allows you to have "bad food" when you want. They are available, but not recommended. Knowing you have choices is freedom. And you already know the more you are not allowed to have something, the more you want it. So stop that by allowing yourself choices and having an empowering conversation with yourself. Ask yourself, "does this food get me closer to my health or life goals?" "How does this food make me feel?" "Is there something else I can do to get the same feeling?" or "I can have pizza, but I love how I look in my skinny jeans more." Or "I can have chocolate, but I love having clear blemish-free skin even more." Or "I can have a small slice of pie if I want, and it's okay." Forget about #intermittentfasting. Instead of letting the clock (an external factor) to tell you when to eat, tune in and listen to your body. Eat every 3-4 hours only when you're hungry. Don't wait until you're starving. Eat slowly, paying attention to your fullness signal. Stop eating when you're comfortably full, not stuffed or "thanksgiving full." For some of you, this advice may sound like blah, blah, blah, etc. and I can hear you say, "it doesn't work." Yes, I know it hasn't been working for years, because somewhere, somehow you were taught to suppress and ignore your feelings, including your hunger/fullness signals. You may not be a perfect eater right away, but you have to start somewhere. Start by paying attention to your eating, the feelings, hunger, fullness, etc. Remember you were born with the perfect relationship with food. Along the way growing up, you picked up some bad eating habits from someone or some events. It's okay. It's not your fault. Just realized that you can always undo it because you have the power. That's all. Eating healthy has become so complicated nowadays because there's so much noise in media and everywhere with conflicting information. Even nutrition experts can't agree on what's good. I'll explain everything in my new book coming soon. Conventional nutritionists and medical advice say eat low fat and low salt, drink diet soda, diet drinks, use low-fat dressing, and low-fat, fat-free everything else. Then, functional nutritionists, like myself, try to encourage people to eat healthy fats, unrefined sea salt, and #eatrealfood for optimal body functions and avoid poisonous "factory food," diet soda, and diet drinks. So who to listen to? One very simple way to determine what to eat to optimize your energy level, mental and physical health is to follow this simple rule. If the food comes from a plant, ie all fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, seeds, eggs, and animals (who once ate plants), go ahead and eat it. If the food is made in a "factory plant" ie soda, juices, salad dressing, sauces, canned foods, vegan meat, granola, cereal, chips, etc, TOSS it in the trash. You are smart, you got the idea. "Factory" food is loaded with man-made chemicals to make the food addicting. These chemicals also interfere with your body's hormone signaling and brain chemicals that affect your mood, metabolism and energy level. Does that mean you can never have "factory" food again? No. You always have a choice. No one is telling you what you do. You do what you want, but knowing the consequences helps to make better choices. P.S.: my patients all felt so much more energy and alive eating the #realfood better mood and slimmer. 90% of Weight Loss Effort Fails because most people often go back to the old habits that's familiar to them. How do you create permanent lifestyle change to keep the weight off? Make the unfamiliar new habit familiar. Make one simple change and commit to doing it for the next 21 days. For example, drink 2 cups of lemon water first thing waking up in the morning. That way, you're already 16oz ahead of your water drinking goal. Yes, kids need play time to learn life and social skills. More specifically free play so they can learn to problem solve and be creative. Kids don’t need lots of toys to be entertain. When people think about cow's milk protein allergy, the first image is someone with stomach cramps, stomach pain, and running to the bathroom. That's lactose intolerance, which means your body cannot "TOLERATE" lactose, a type of sugar in milk. It is not an allergic reaction, and it is usually not life-threatening. But I want to talk about the cow's milk protein allergy that kids and adults with ADHD experience. When most people think about food allergy, the first image is someone ate something they're allergic to, within minutes, they start having difficulty breathing, fainting, and have to administer the epi-pen. Yes, that does happen. And that's an extreme example of an IgE-mediated allergic response. This type of reaction can be tested and showed up on regular food allergy testing and skin prick test. However, most of the food reactions we see in most people, especially kids and adults with ADHD are non-IgE mediated reactions, which means the blood test or skin prick test shows no reaction, but you or your child is reacting to some food physically and behaviorally. Most people only focus on "physical reactions" to food, but ignore that your moodiness and irritability could also be result of the food you eat. Try to eat or drink something with "red coloring" and wait for the "monster" to come out. Why you think they call the drink "Monster". These kinds of reactions are difficult to diagnose because the reaction usually comes on slowly, maybe hours or even days later. So most people with these symptoms don't realize that it's caused by the food they eat, and there are not good reliable testing for either. This is from the smartest man who had ever lived @alberteinstein So I think you should listen and believe. Having #ADHD doesn’t doom you or your #adhdchild a life of disappointment and failure. Every person and every child is gifted and special in their own way. Conventional school systems do not take into consideration of or consider many other talents. Like @simonebiles or @adamlavineofficial Do you care if they have perfect SAT scores? My goal as a parent to my daughter is to provide her with the environment where she can thrive and feel good being herself. I’m not trying to shape her into someone she’s not. We’re still in the discovery journey of who she really is. Enjoy your child’s journey of discovery and embrace the memories. I’ve been learning so much about ADHD and unresolved childhood trauma. ADHD is not simply about a delayed and smaller brain, but also “what happened” to the child. Childhood trauma comes in so many forms. I used to think childhood trauma was traumatic experiences, such as abuse, neglect, abandonment, accidents, etc. but it actually includes many minor things that we parents do or say to or around our children that we’re not thinking about. It goes so much deeper into understanding how our children interpret the adult world around them and how they relate as they’re growing up. that’s why it’s important to understand about child development and our expectations of our children. Thank you goes out to @the.holistic.psychologist for this amazing infograph And that’s my little blurb and opinions. 7 Superfoods for ADHD In all the years of my practice, almost 100% of the time when a child with ADHD changes their diet eliminating all the processed food and sugars, their ADHD symptoms often improved. The reason behind this is because many artificial additives, preservatives and food colorings can interfere with the brain and hormonal signal in the body. This is not just an ADHD thing. Any human exposed to these chemicals will have a biochemical reaction. Think precocious puberty (children starting pubertal change before age 8 in girls and 9 in boys). It's all the hormonal exposure in animal proteins. Kids being hyper at birthday parties filled with colorful cakes, sugary drinks and candies. Food colorings, preservatives and high fructose corn syrup. I'm not saying that food and diet is THE solution for ADHD symptoms. And poor diet quality if NOT the only cause either. If fact, it's ONLY A PART of the solution. Read the book "Eat the Focus" to learn more. So what are some better foods for kids with ADHD besides your standard unprocessed food? Parents with picky eaters often turn to "junk food" to get their children to eat. But if you're working so hard to get your child to eat, why don't you work the same effort to get them to eat "healthy" or even superfoods that are actually good for the child. Here are 7 superfoods for kids with ADHD: Beets increase blood flow to the brain Blueberries reduce brain inflammation and protect brain cells Cacao improves brain function, memory, and reaction time Fermented food rebalance the gut microbiome Kale loaded with vitamins and minerals that are often lacking in kids with ADHD Matcha (green tea) increases alertness and calms the ADHD brain Salmon contains omega-3, which is an important brain-building ingredient for the delayed ADHD brain. All these food have a superpower that benefits at least one of the underlying causes of ADHD. Add beets, blueberries and kale to smoothies, cacao or matcha latte with non-dairy milk, salmon dinner x2-3 times a week, sauerkraut with sandwiches, non-dairy yogurt for breakfast or snack. Today. I created a #visionboard with my coach. The idea is to put images of the things that you most desire in life On The port, which you will display in a prominent place where you see it all the time to remind you every day of the things that you’re working towards. Isn’t it genius? Some of you might think of this kind of a war war crazy new each thing. But let me tell you, it worked. I achieved and manifested everything on my first vision board many years ago. This board is more motivational than materialistic as I have a much bigger goal to accomplish. You can do the vision board old-fashion way with magazine cut cuts and stickers. Or digitally on your computer or web-based app, such as Canva. #createyourdreamlife #lifestylebydesign #manifestationtips #getwhatyouwant #selflovetips #positivemind #growthmindset (at Honolulu, Hawaii) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRxU5-BD9f0/?utm_medium=tumblr

The gluten in today’s grains causes inflammation and it is also more addicting, which makes you crave and eat more of it. Grains and legumes also contain anti-nutrients such as saponins and lectins. These tiny molecules are extremely challenging to intestinal defense mechanisms and opening the tight junctions in your gut. As a result, it can set off allergic reactions that damage the intestinal wall even more and cause more inflammation. Lectin can pass through the damaged intestinal wall into the bloodstream and bind to insulin receptors and leptin receptors. When this happens, lectins can cause insulin and leptin resistance, which means that your fullness signal is suppressed and that you’ll be hungry even when your body has had more than enough calories. Grains and legumes also contain phytic acid (phytates) that literally binds to essential minerals, such as magnesium, zinc, iron, and calcium, which are already low in kids with ADHD. Grains, such as wheat, barley, and rye, contain gluten that is very difficult for the human body to digest and can also cause inflammation in the intestine and damage the gut lining leading to malabsorption of nutrients. Grains and legumes are poor sources of bioavailable nutrients when compared to meat, seafood, vegetables, and fruits. If you experience digestive symptoms, such as bloating, reflux, abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation when eating a grain- and legume-rich vegan diet or when eating nuts, beans, seeds, and grain, consider removing these foods from your diet or preparing them differently to reduce lectin. These so called vegan meat substitute is just another hype by food manufacturers to profit on the vegan diet trend. Whatever God has created for a human to consume is already perfect. Why do we have to create a fake product to mimic what God has already made. Besides, if people are so concerned about killing animals. Why do you have to eat something that resembles animal meat.
