You ever just wake up thinking about how Cassian admitted he thought him and Nesta were mates when she was still human but still proceed to give Mor lingerie in front of her? Then had the audacity to shout at her in the middle of the damn street that she was his and why won’t she just accept it?

today it was revealed that a white woman in brownface was amita suman’s stunt double in shadow and bone.
at a time when hollywood is preaching to stop aapi hate the show has shown us, twice so far, that they don’t care about our community. by having a south asian coded character make racist remarks towards an east asian coded character they added nothing to the plot or character development- all they did was try to create a divide between our communities. this hurt more especially because zoya was never racist in the books.
they condoned putting a stuntwoman in brownface because they couldn’t be bothered to find a desi stuntwoman for amita. there are truly so many talented desi dancers and acrobats out there but shadow and bone refused to cast accurately solely because stuntwomen are supposed to show up in blurry or fast moving shots, making it “easier” to rely on brownface. this speaks volumes about how much they care about diversity.
for a show that has been praised for representation and diversity and was going to mean so much for asian viewers, shadow and bone failed to deliver time and time again, showing us that all we can count on when it comes to south asian representation in hollywood is constant disrespect and racism.
netflix and leigh bardugo along with the rest of the showrunners and writers marketed the show as being a diverse fantasy but were surrounded by a team that approved brownface should tell you all you need to know about how much they respected desi people in the first place. so many south asians were excited to finally see themselves onscreen in inej and zoya, especially as the show was praised by reviewers and writers as being diverse and accurate representation and this is what we got.
amita was so excited to play inej, a strong brown woman whose identity was not solely defined by her race and i can’t imagine how she felt watching a white woman paint herself brown so that she could perform stunts that amita had trained for as well. if anything, this proves that hollywood’s pushing of diversity on screen does nothing to help poc and representation unless that same diversity exists behind the camera.

So Shadow and Bone is like every adaptation. It’s loosely based on the books but basically it’s own thing. Overall 5/8 episodes in it seems like it’s trying at least on the original trilogy side to stay parallel to the books. Love the crow kids but not loving that they’re involved with the Alina storyline. Ketterdam is such a crazy diverse place I would have preferred to spend the bulk of their time there.
The only character that really seems to have changed drastically is Mal. Which I’m sure is for reasons since he wasn’t very likable in the books in my opinion. Honestly he was a grade A asshole in the books so the 180 turn of personality and attitude at least makes for more compelling tv. Still won’t ever ship him with Alina though because tv Mal feels like fan fiction after reading the books. Darklina was always problematic but at least you always knew where you stood.

Can we talk about the fact that it is NEVER ADDRESSED what happened between Nesta and Cassian the first time they spoke after the war? Like it just says “she shut down”, “she shut him out”, “she made it clear she didn’t want anything to do with him”
And ok cool but like DID HE TRY? HOW LONG DID HE WAIT AFTER THE WAR? DID HE TRY TO APPROACH HER ALONE? DID HE ASK HER TO TALK TO HIM???
Like I have to assume he did SOMETHING but then also knowing this self loathing idiot bat he probably was just like well ball is in her court I shan’t bother her with my love MEANWHILE NESTA IS SAT THERE FEELING UNLOVED AND LIKE HE DOESN’T CARE BECAUSE HE JUST WALKED HIS FINE ASS RIGHT OFF THAT BATTLEFIELD WITH MOR AND THEN NEVER TRIED TO SPEAK TO HER???
When this was not addressed in ACOFAS I was like oh they saving this big heartbreaking scene for ACOSF and then... nothing... like it could’ve explained so much about Cassian’s frustration and hurt and longing AND shown us why Nesta shoved everyone away and let us into her thoughts even more.

Morrigan, shortened to Mor by her friends, is a member of Rhysand’s Inner Circle and the Third-in-Command of the Night Court. She is the court overseer and looks after the dynamics between the Court of Nightmares and the Court of Dreams, running both Velaris and the Hewn City.

SJM literally leaves just enough crumbs for all your possible ships because it will keep you talking about the books and being invested to buy future releases. There’s a reason BAM had an Azriel scene and the reason Waterstones/B&N/Indigo had a Feysand scene with a tiny Elain/Lucien mention. It’s to keep us talking about it . There was absolutely no need to add any mention of any other characters to that scene it’s done intentionally. Everyone’s feelings are valid so don’t be a dick to people.
Edit: Elain wearing or not wearing gloves can back either ship.
Elriel: She didn’t wear them because she hates the idea of a mate so much she can’t even handle a gift he got her.
Elucien: She forgot about them or forgot to put them on. Doesn’t say she’s never worn them. It’s sort of implied by Feyre but she gardens all over town it’s possible she’s just never seen it.
Other: Elain is so damn tired of not having control she likes the feel of the dirt on her hands as a tether.

I’ve seen a lot of posts about future babies for the sisters and who that means their end game ship is. Honestly, I hate that this is the hill some people are choosing to latch onto. So here’s my rant.
I don’t think Elain not having her anatomy changed means anything for either ship. Rhys and Feyre believed the baby had wings because Feyre had wings when the baby was conceived. It’s still possible they could have a child without them. Rhysand’s father didn’t have them and either did he until he got his power. It’s just a game of odds whether or not the baby would have them. We also know nothing to my knowledge about what Elain, Lucien, or Azriel wants in terms of a family. We get one scene of Azriel saying whether he has children isn’t up to him. If anyone has any other scenes I’m all eyes.
Children are supposed to be rare and we have 4 characters (I’m adding in Gwyn) who have gone through a lot and may or may not want or be able to have children. Whether or not someone can reproduce shouldn’t be the determining factor of a successful relationship. I would love a side part with an adoption or surrogate but I don’t see surrogacy being a thing in the ACOTAR world. All the Fae are incredibly territorial and I’m just having a hard time picturing them being okay with someone else carrying their child. They also didn’t seem to know how to do a c-section so IVF feels out of the question. If anything adoption seems more realistic as a lot of children lost parents in the war.
In short please don’t project having a baby as the only way to have a happily ever and make a ship work. It’s not realistic and is harmful for people in real life reading that who might not be able to have children but want them.
