This is a little underwater scene I painted in my @pithsupply sketchbook (very tolerant to slapping down a lot of paint!) _ I’ve been revisiting some old ideas lately and looking at them with a new perspective. A belated day 4 for #MarchMeetTheMaker2022 Friday’s prompt was “3 things…” There are soo many trios I could share but let’s go with my 3 favourite things to forage for on a woodland walk 🌲 acorns, pinecones, and mushrooms! 🍄 At the end of last year, I was really happy to be able to go back to the Edinburgh Printmakers and start screen printing again. This little mushroom print is one of the prints I worked on. So today is the first day of#MarchMeetTheMaker2022 and I decided it was a good time to introduce myself and show my face to all you lovely people 🥰 It’s also time for me to embrace that my art and interests have changed since I made this account and that it’s ok to start heading in a new direction. In 2012, I had a job interview during which, I was told that my work wasn’t very arty. Exactly what every artist wants to hear! Within a week, I had committed myself to a year long challenge - to draw a house everyday for a year. I called the project Draw a City and posted diligently to a tumblr blog. After I had finished the project, and in the years that followed, I began to feel paralysed by the work I had made. I felt like I couldn’t draw in a different style and I shouldn’t draw anything else. I was the girl who drew houses, but I didn’t really want to be… I want to create big painterly landscapes and tiny detailed critters. I want to make things, and animate things, photograph things. I’d like to create in lots of different ways and explore different things. There are no rules we have to follow in art and it has taken me a while to learn that. Feeling like this squirrel today as we edge closer to the weekend. I’ve taken the whole of next week off work and I cannot wait to get stuck into all of the little projects I have on my to-draw list ✏️ • Something I’ve been really keen to try more of is animation. With ALOT of help from the book The Animators Survival Kit, I drew this little running squirrel.
