Closure.
My first and final post of 2023. For the folks that followed me and/or anyone that used to pay attention to all the nonsense I used to post, I just wanted to do one last time since I didn’t when I left in 2021.
I’ve learned and grown so much in 2022 even though it was only a year difference. So much in fact, I can say that I’ve learned more in 2022 than any other in my 32 years. It was a truly opening year with both the best and the worst experiences of my life. And that’s all I can say about that. You can really experience a lot in one year, even change into an entirely different person.
As for this page, it was race-based and served as an outlet for voices, concerns, and justice in general for namely Asian Americans. But I do wanna say that in the larger sense of the world, we’re all just people trying to fit somewhere in it—Asian American or not. Sometimes I just wish we could see that. At the same time though, the world can be a very cruel or welcoming place depending on who you are and what you look like. That’s just reality.
To those that I’ve had long and deep conversations with, and even just little interactions with, thanks. That’s all I can say because something as simple as that is all that’s needed to change and even grow a person sometimes.
And to everyone that I’ve hurt on here or said mean things to, I just wanted to say sorry. I admit I was a jerk and still am sometimes. But maybe sometimes, it takes being a jerk to grow from it and to really see how far you’ve come as a person. Still doesn’t excuse the fact that others had to take my crap though.
For 2023 and beyond, may we all be blessed with peace and good health. And just for those that aren’t sure or maybe haven’t reached it yet, may we all become someone that we can be proud of being. That maybe even others can be proud of too because as individually as we try to be sometimes or maybe all the time, it takes a village. It really does.
Anyway, take care of yourselves and each other. It’s easier to say and harder to do but worth it in the end. May peace smile upon us.
—From someone who just isn’t angry anymore

So, I just saw an interview with Daniel Dae Kim on The View, and people were talking about how he and other Asians “played up” Stop Asian Hate, and it’s all exaggerated! I’m sorry, all those new reports and personal stories were made up? And since when was this a gymnastics performance for who has it worse? I’m pretty sure the guy that made a few comments was an undercover white guy, but you never know with YouTube. What a fucked up world, eh? It had nothing to do with the interview, too!
Okay, let’s be honest here.
Most of these people that say “Stop Asian Hate” is exaggerated, propaganda, or some other shit, never even gave a shit about Asian people anyway nor do they care. The reason why racism against Asian people is “news” to non-Asians is because they never paid attention to us in the first place which is why I don’t care about anyone else at the moment and we are all justified to do so.
SAH is a response to a particular form of racism that has been happening for a VERY long time. All the individual cases that you see today has been happening and has happened to our grandparents since they first came here. If you’re part of an older Asian family that has been here for a century or two, your greatgreat- or great grandparents have faced racism too. They’ve faced small scale racism like attacks and robberies but also systematic scale racism from laws and policies. None of this is new. It’s just new because people haven’t been paying attention and because the term/phrase “Stop Asian Hate” is new. But the overarching issue of racism itself is not new.
It’s kind of like how your grandparents may have some personal trauma right? Then they pass it down to your parents. Then your parents might pass it down to you. Then you might pass it down to your kids if you decided to have any or if you do have some. But 100 years ago or so, nobody knew what this sort of “familial trauma” was called because it didn’t have a name and nobody responded to it and nobody addressed it. But here in the US at least, we all know that familial trauma thing is called “generational trauma.” Generational trauma is a new term in comparison to how long it has actually existed. So just because something doesn’t have a name or phrase doesn’t mean it never existed before. And just because something has a new name or phrase doesn’t mean it’s new.
It’s exactly similar with SAH. Just because the phrase is new doesn’t mean racism is new and just because we didn’t have a phrase for it doesn’t mean it never happened before. That’s the unique thing about humans is that we face so many different things in life but most of the time, we don’t know what those things are until someone defines it or puts a word or a phrase to it. But whatever word, term, or phrase we use to describe something is simply just a shared meaning for people to better understand, it’s not to signal that it is “new.” Since it seems “new” to some people (or I should say many people), then they think it’s exaggerated or fake or propaganda or something else but the fact is that they never paid attention in the first place. And we can’t reach people that don’t pay attention.

hi! just want to inform you that pasifika/oceanic are an entire different race from asian. unfortunately the u.s. created the term aapi and lumps two races together, and most of the time both asian folks and non-asian folks contributed to the erasure of oceanic folks and are not considerate willingfully to learn about oceanic folks and their history and legacy. not to mention there are asian settlers in hawa'i. so please use "asian" if you are going to discuss about asian folks
I’m not sure why you’re telling me this since I literally have like 10 different posts on this topic lol. Like I have literally advised people NOT to use AAPI-related terms for this exact reason since it erases Pasifika folks. Thank you for reaching out though.

Why are Asian-Americans complicits with alt-right? Like the yellow flag during the Jan 6, and the three alt-righters supported Hong Kong students in Hong Kong?
Damn I didn’t know 4 people represented all Asian Americans and thus meaning we are all complicit with white supremacists lol
But I got an equally good idea though. Go on Twitter and find 4 Black and 4 Latine folks that love white supremacists (they’re easy to find tbh). Then come back here so you can make the assumption that all Black and Latine people are also complicit with white supremacists lol. After that, you can do Middle Eastern folks. After that, you might as well do white people too because why not lol
You know how Speed Racer utilizes the number 5? Well, you can be Speed Racist number 4 since that’s how many people it takes for you to make assumptions of an entire group lol

Why some of the hashtag Stop Asian Hate features some muscles man, lady, and etc that have nothing to do with SAH?
LOL
It’s a lost cause and a loss cause. It’s lost because the original message was about addressing racism towards Asian people, specifically East and Southeast Asian diaspora folks. That’s all it was at the core and now it’s about muscle mans and ladies and whatever crap it is now.
And two, it’s a loss because the Asian diaspora failed to build on the movement. We had the spotlight but didn’t do anything with it except cry and bitch about what it meant or what slogans we should’ve used and other meaningless in-fighting bullshit. There will not be another Asian-related diaspora movement as potentially big as that for a long while. What a waste. But hey, we got Squid Game right.

Pandemic hit Asian-owned businesses in Southern California hardest, study finds
Out of the 400 Asian-run businesses surveyed, 60 percent reported a large negative effect from the pandemic, compared to just 40 percent of all California businesses surveyed by the U.S. Census Bureau’s Small Business Pulse Survey.
“Originally, businesses were the top site of racism, because that’s the only place we would interact with people during quarantine — we go out shopping, and then we would interact with people,” Russell Jeung, co-founder of Stop AAPI Hate, told NBC Asian America in May. “Now we’re seeing more incidents in public places like streets and sidewalks. So it seems to me as we come out of the pandemic, everybody is interacting more in the broader public and Asian Americans are experiencing racism there as well as businesses.”

Shang-Chi Director Suggests The Character's Power-Levels Are Comparable To The Hulk & Thor
During a recent interview with Collider, the filmmaker was asked about the Master of Martial Arts' power-levels and whether they were on the same level as the likes of Thor and The Hulk. Without naming any specific characters, Destin Daniel Cretton suggested that by the end of the movie, Shang-Chi is "standing on a similar level" to the most formidable heroes in the MCU.
"It depends if you're talking about the beginning of the movie or the end of the movie," he said. "I think by the end of this movie, I think, he is, you know, standing up on a similar level to some of our favorite superheroes in the MCU. For fun, we've debated things but I don't really know the answer to it. But I'm sure we'll explore them in the future."

‘Shang-Chi’ Smashing Labor Day Opening Weekend Records With $60M+ – Midday Box Office Update
Shang-Chi’s three-day total looks to be around $60M, with the potential to do in the mid- to high-$60M range over four days. That’s poised to be 126% higher than the previous Labor Day weekend record opener, 2017’s Halloween. It could even go much higher, but we’ll have a better idea tomorrow morning. This is according to industry estimates, not Disney.
Exhibitors have a lot to be thankful for here as Disney has Shang-Chi on a 45-day theatrical day window. Early PostTrak audience exits show 5 stars for the first Asian-American Marvel superhero movie, with a 99% fresh audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Who is Shang-Chi?
While the film’s version of Shang-Chi differs considerably from the original comic version, it is still worth exploring the origins of the superhero. The superhero was introduced as a master of martial arts and a peerless hand-to-hand combatant in Special Marvel Edition #15 and instantly became popular. Throughout the 70s, he continued to be one of the most famous Marvel street-level superheroes despite his stereotypical characterisation.
Meanwhile, Simu Liu revealed how he along with the director and writers made sure MCU’s portrayal of Shang-Chi was complex and relatable, even if was not authentic to the source material. “Those comics were written by white people. And they didn’t necessarily understand an authentic Asian-American experience. So the character that came out… it never seemed like he was three-dimensional. He was very serious, spoke mostly mystical proverbs and didn’t feel fleshed out. So we crafted this all new character and story.”

Vicha Ratanapakdee, Face of Stop Asian Hate, gets a new mural in San Francisco Chinatown
Ratanapakdee, 84, was walking along Anza Vista and Fortuna Avenues on Jan. 28 when a teenager shoved him for no apparent reason. The attack, which occurred in broad daylight, was captured on surveillance video. The suspect, 19-year-old Antoine Watson, was arrested the same day along with a female accomplice. The latter was soon released due to an absence of evidence, while Watson pleaded not guilty to murder and elder abuse charges.
The mural was created by artists Thitiwat Phromratanapongse and Sarah Siskin. It is located at Grant Avenue and California Street. Ratanapakdee’s two children, Monthanus and Pasama, set up a new GoFundMe page in hopes of raising funds for their legal fight, education of his grandchildren, and grief counseling.

Do you have any mutuals or know of any accounts that give advice w on how to write a Muslim-coded character in fantasy? I have a character that I was hoping to code as a Muslims, and I have a lot of questions about whether or not it’s rude to base a fantasy religion on a real one that I’m NOT a part of (I’m already coding another religion as Protestant because that’s what I am) and where coding ends and straight up ripping off a religion begins.
Sorry I’m not sure. If any Muslim folks have any advice (or if anyone knows of someone), feel free to reply!
