Moving In

So, I've picked Joker's route back up again. In chapter 3, Alice finally decided to move in with Joker after he offered. She told Blood and Elliot about the offer, and Elliot got really upset (obviously) and Blood calmly stated that they can't interfere with her choice. Now Alice is going around apologizing for refusing the other offers she had from the Train Station and Black Territory. Gray was surprised, and started protesting, and then Nightmare also stated that Alice has made up her mind and there's no point in stopping her. All I could think about was how each and every one of these role holders are currently cussing out the rules right now. XDD No one likes this "can't interfere with an outsider's choices" rule right now.

Oops. I just realized I got so absorbed in playing Hannibal and Nightmare, I barely wrote any commentary on this blog diary. It's been months since I finished them, so I'm gonna have to replay them.

Quick Thought - Nightmare

I, uh, forgot to put much of my commentary for Nightmare's route on this blog. However, I had a quick thought about his route. Much of his route was him taking care of Alice while she was sick, vice versa, and even taking care of each other at the same time. And the thing they enjoy doing while resting in bed is playing chess, having started out by helping Nightmare get better at it, so he can actually, ya know, win a match at the event.

It was so cute, and refreshing change of pace having Nightmare look after Alice. As well as having Alice be less forceful in her nursing of Nightmare. Especially after he talks about his trauma and why dreams are his escape and comfort. It felt nice for Alice to be nicer to Nightmare, which, after playing so many of his routes, is a welcome change.

Every Nightmare Fangirl's Dream

Alice is feeling unwell, but she really doesn't want to stop working, so Nightmare is allowing her to work in his room, so she can rest and work at the same time. ('Cause he knows she's stubborn about her job.) And he picks her up to take her there. I just screamed, both out loud and in my head, and wanted to bask in this moment forever. I want him to do that to me. Alice is so lucky. AHHHHHH.

There's more to this scene that was nice, but I might post about that in a different post. Right now, I just can't get enough of the CG and him picking her up. It's a fangirl dream come true.

Distant Gaze

So Alice was thinking about how Gray is more capable and should be station master instead of Nightmare. Nightmare, of course, objects, saying that because of him the trains run, Gray is his assistant and lives a fulfilling work life. And then goes to Gray for confirmation. Gray, surprised, gives a non-committal response, then says that it's because of Nightmare he's satisfied with his work every day. (Distant eyes) It says in his dialogue in parenthesis distant eyes. XD It's hilarious. He clearly is just agreeing to placate Nightmare, and it's funny.

Oh, how I've missed these interactions between Nightmare, Alice, and Gray.

Ace's Best End

The last scene in Ace's best end was super sweet, and gotta thank Nightmare and Peter for bringing Julius, Ace, and Alice together in a dream. So sweet, and I missed this group. I really liked how it ended.

Poor Elliot

Alice is actually playing the queen in the final chess match for Ace's route, and she's been ordered to attack and get rid of Elliot. She has three attempts to attack him, and if he avoids all three, the attack is null and void.

His face as Alice walks toward him, though! It's so funny! He looks so worried. I know I shouldn't be laughing, but I just...poor Elliot.

Apology

After Alice starts chewing Ace out, and Ace saying that he's been scolded a lot recently, he sincerely apologizes to Alice about the mess with Lewis. And that these days he can't control himself. I'm rather surprised he honestly apologized.

Granted, it's been a year or two since I touched the series before starting to play this game, so my memories on his character are a bit fuzzy. Still, I feel like this is very significant for him.

Results

Results of the first chess match in Ace's route? A bloodbath. Too bad I don't have an image of the bloodbath itself, so have the CG that went with the scene. (The other chess pieces jumped in to help Lewis and Ace, and...yeah. They just got in the way.) The White Territory won as a result of this mess.

Ace's First Chess Match

I'm at the first chess match played by the Black Territory. And I find it interesting how Ace is in the role of the queen instead of the knight, like the other routes. In the other routes, he protested about being a queen and wanted to be a knight, so that was the chess piece he was.

Instead, he's playing the role of queen in his own route. I wonder why, and if it has any symbolic meaning.

Side note: He's probably gonna cause a lot of trouble during this chess match, because during the Hatters vs. Station match, Alice and Ace ran into White Joker, and uh, they spat poisonous words at each other. Ace lost his facade with Joker, and I'm scared what Ace is gonna do during this match. He's more than likely still mad at Joker, so he's probably gonna take his anger/irritation out on others.

(I think he's already starting with Lewis.)

Lewis is asking why on earth Alice hasn't reported her move to the Black Territory to him until now.

Aw

Ace and Alice are camping in the corridor after getting lost on the way to the servants' room. They are drinking coffee, and Alice asked if he liked coffee.

Ace answers that he doesn't really like it himself, but someone he knows does, and that he was borrowing his wisdom. (On coffee, because Alice doesn't like the bitterness very well, but Ace made it so it was more drinkable for her.)

I just went, "Awwww. Ace!" and "Julius! He's talking about Julius! I need more Julius!" I'm sure Ace would agree with that last part.

Boris' Route

I finished Boris' route, and I gotta say, it surprised me how much I liked it.

I felt like Boris was much more respectful of Alice and what she didn't like in this route. He was also much more communicative about his feelings, which helped a lot. He was willing to listen to her, and patiently waited for her. He even was willing to suffer through being uncool to prove that he was serious about her to Peter.

He is still possessive and jealous, but it isn't as prominent as the routes that came before. He admits to wanting to lock her up, but he doesn't. He doesn't handcuff her or anything else. I think he's come a long way, and it was refreshing.

I loved how he admitted to being lonely and disappointed while Alice was gone. He found it much more fun being with Alice than being alone, and that spoke volumes. The merry-go-round in that distorted space that he turned into an amusement park just for them was sweet and adorable.

He was also very patient waiting for her to finish work, and I was surprised he didn't get bored of waiting for her to the point where he just left. He stayed and waited. Well, that is until he got saddled with more work to do, because he was cutting corners to spend more time with Alice while she worked.

TL;DR Boris went through amazing character growth while Alice was in Diamond and it showed in this route, which made it really enjoyable. I would probably actually replay it.

Comparison

Boris is talking about how sad and lonely he was when Alice moved to the country of Diamonds. Here, he's saying that he was really happy to see her again. More so than the most exiting ride or shoot out.

Those are things that make Boris really happy, and I get it, but that comparison just makes me laugh. XD More than an exciting (dangerous) ride and a gun fight. LOL. Very Boris. Aside from his comparison, this is a very vulnerable, sweet moment.

Slip of the Tongue

Boris is arguing with the twins. Boris is telling them to shut up and not rush Nightmare. They counter that Nightmare's thinking out loud, so it's only natural to rush him. Boris then goes, "He's not confident in himself, so he can't help but say what he's thinking. It can't be helped."

Blurting out your territory lord's weakness out loud like that in the middle of a chess match at an event. XD Way to go Boris. If I remember correctly, Gray did something similar in his route. Couldn't help but be honest, I guess.
