Out Of Cookies - Au Revoir <3
I’ll try to keep this short but sweet...
Since like august I’ve just been getting busier and busier with work, basically I’ve gone from doing a job pre covid which covered about three roles to now doing a job which covers my role plus my bosses role and then I’ve absorbed two other roles into my own which means I’m doing the job of about three people with the same amount of time.
Unfortunately this is incredibly draining and that combined with some personal things that have happened just means that I have less and less time to actively commit to this group then I’d like.
I don’t have the time to get on and I’ve been holding out for a while trying to get a plot that’s been in the works for a long time out and now thats done I’m going to have to step back from the group.
in canon Winston’s going to go travelling, this is because of Todd dying and stuff like that surrounding the lydia plot (which was amazing, huge shoutouts to Immo, Cal, Hannah, Emily, Cody and everyone else involved); but they’re not going to be in white crest (my hope is that things get better for me real soon and I can come back and just have Winston return to white crest but I guess we’ll see what happens).
I’ve loved everything i’ve written and there’s a hundred new people i’ve yet to write with that I wish I had been able to write with, I’ll miss you all, please feel free to reach out to me to get my contacts if you don’t already have them <3

Goodbye For Now || Solo
When: 29/11/2020 Where: White Crest Summary: Winston deals with a final piece of evidence. Warnings: injury description, murder description, gore
Winston had hidden Lydia’s car.
After everything that had happened, their hands drenched crimson in fae blood, their boyfriend still injured from the fight he had been forced to participate in, Luce with her leg wound and Athena making it out mostly okay... well it had seemed that they were the best person to do this.
Their head swam.
They could still feel the cold wood beneath their fingers, feel the sickening crunch of the spear crunching through Lydia’s ribs and the squelch of the blade piercing her heart. They could remember the pain that was so clear on her features and the dimness of her eyes as they pulled the spear out. They remembered the gush of blood that had covered the haft of the short spear. They remember how warm the blood had been. So thick, so viscous.
It had poured down their fingers and dripped onto the pavement with a sickening plip ... plop ... plip ... plip ...
Winston tried to swallow the lump in their throat, but it just bobbed their for a moment, persistent and uncomfortable.
Somehow murder wasn’t the worst part of the whole ordeal with Lydia.
Winston had found her terrifying the very first time that they had met her, they had found her terrifying every other time that they had interacted with her. Now that they knew the truth about what had happened with her, about what she had done and about why she had done it, well Winston had to admit that they couldn’t keep this up any longer.
Their mind flashed briefly back to their conversation with Ariana. The look in her eyes, the far of place that she seemed to be in. The feeling of ... well there was no way to put it other then a visceral distance from anything, it was something that Winston could relate to.
Todd’s dead.
Those weren’t her exact words. Ariana was a good friend and Winston doubted that she had the capacity to be that blunt. But the force of it had been nothing short of a bus crashing into their chest. She might as well have said it that simply.
The embrace they had been able to have with one another afterwards had felt hollow. Neither of them had come out of this unscathed and what should’ve been a refreshing hug that filled Winston with love and caring had resulted in ... well just gray.
It made sense in the end.
Lydia was why he had been acting differently. Why he had distanced himself from his friends. Why he had cut Winston out of his life. But in the end, Winston didn’t know whether he had died alone, whether he had been in tears, afraid, in the dark. Had their been any comfort for him in the end?
When Lydia had begged for her life, Winston had ignored her pleas and bargains with Todd, assuming that with her out of the way their friend would be safe.
But he was dead.
Winston couldn’t help but feel guilty. The guilt had been eating up inside of them. They hadn’t acted. Once again they had been too slow, too late, too weak, not fast enough. They hadn’t done enough to keep their friend safe and now the vibrant ray of friendship that had been Todd was gone from this world forever.
He had been great. Kind. Lively. Confident. Never afraid to get his hands dirty and never afraid to get back up after he was knocked down. He’d befriended Winston in a difficult time and brought so much to Winston’s life and then Winston had gotten busy, wrapped up in a supernatural world full of magic and turmoil and death and Winston had been too busy to notice the signs. To notice the fact that there was something terrible happening to someone that counted upon them. Something that they could have done to change all of this.
The cool metal of Lydia’s car bit through Winston’s skin as they placed the flat of their palm on the hood of it. They had hidden it out on a trail that was so remote, so in the middle of nowhere that Winston was confident that it would have remained hidden for a good while.
They remembered Orion’s eyes as Winston had explained their plan. They remember the pain they had caused by saying goodbye. Rio and their friends were the most difficult thing to say goodbye to. Their family too. They were the reason that Winston had stuck around White Crest for so long.
But as they had held Orion and Rio had held them. As they had embraced. As they could feel Rio’s slow breaths rising and falling, the gentle rush of air on Winston’s neck, Winston knew that they couldn’t be here anymore. It just, it wasn’t ... they couldn’t vocalise it anymore but it wasn’t right, this wasn’t the place for them. Winston understood why Rio couldn’t leave but they couldn’t be here anymore.
The conversation that followed had been incredibly painful. But goodbyes were never easy and maybe this was just a farewell.
Winston had felt their heart tear in two as they explained why they needed to go, as they thought of everyone who had died. Celeste. Roland. Todd. Those were just three names amongst many. They’d killed people now. August, Lydia, Winston had lost count of how many vampires that had died because of them.
They’d miss White Crest. They’d miss their family and their friends. They’d miss Big Al’s and the station and Marley and Jane and Agatha. All the detectives. They’d miss Bea, Nell and Luce, they’d miss Blanche and Ariana and everyone else. Even Athena.
They didn’t belong here anymore and they couldn’t cope with the sheer amount of violence that was so constantly ongoing in White Crest.
Drawing into their focus, Winston summoned a spark. They watched it flicker into life -- perhaps watch was not the right word but they could feel it’s very essence spread into being -- they felt the spark catch the petroleum left in the piston’s of Lydia’s car and begin the controlled burn that Winston knew it would. Combustion engines were far more simple to understand when you could feel the literal mechanics of the car.
Turning, Winston stalked away from the car. Luce could’ve done this, but Winston felt it was right. They had murdered Lydia. By all accounts she had deserved it. Had deserved everything and more that had come to her. Had deserved to be slaughtered for the damage that she had done to Winston, to White Crest, to all of their friends and to all of the families of people that she had taken.
All just so that she could feed.
Yet despite that certainty, Winston couldn’t help the waves of guilt that crashed against their chest. They couldn’t help but remember the sheer pain, the feeling of desperation, the sound of urgency in her voice. They couldn’t help any of this and they ... they couldn’t be here anymore.
Getting in their shitty car, they wrapped their fingers around the steering wheel and the engine sputtered to life as a fire took hold of the hood of Lydia’s car. The flames licking the top of the bonnet and Winston knew that it wouldn’t be long before it went further.
Gently pressing the bottom of the foot to the pedal, Winston took a deep shuddering breath and drove away from Lydia’s car. They were a few hundred meters away when they heard the explosion. The rear view mirror in their car displayed the column of dark smoke that began rising from the woods.
A single, solitary tear began to form in the corner of Winston’s right eye. Their breath grew tight in their chest and they kept driving. The trees, bushes and occasional street light rushing past in a blur. They urged their car forward, suddenly embraced by an urgency that they had never quite felt before. They had to do this faster otherwise they wouldn’t be able to do it at all.
They were almost to the edge of the town before they slowed once more. Pulling up to a sign that read “Welcome to White Crest” and the tear began to roll its slow and solitary descent down Winston’s cheek. All of the good memories that this place had suddenly rushed through their mind, flashing images of childhood with Nell and Bea and Luce, images of high school, times in college with Todd and Ricky, times interning and working with Jane, Agatha, Roland and Marley. All of the times they’d gotten to work in Leah’s library. When they’d defeated Bloody Mary and the Sandman with Jasmine and Zinnia. Helping Rio in the library of White Crest. The first Moose Tour that they’d met Blanche on. Weeb nights with Skye. Fighting giant invisible spirits with Adam. Learning magic from Morgan and Nell. Spraying Ariana with watermelon guts as they tried not to let on that they were magic. Even Miriam, though that was undoubtedly an unhealthy memory, Winston would still miss her.
The memories stopped as quickly as they had come, swallowing once and taking a shuddering breath, Winston pressed their foot on the gas once more, shifted up a gear and began down the winding road away from White Crest.
There was a lump in Winston that wouldn’t go, and they needed to leave.

[pm] So, how awesome are we? Coming up with a ritual that permanently got rid of Bloody Mary and Sandman? Who does that? Oh right, us. Everyone was a huge help, but your brain really helped save the day. Now to figure out the whole lake of glass thing.
[pm] We are awe inspiring and amazing, I could not have done any of it without you so if you ever need help with anything like that again, let me know.
I have no answers there, I don’t even know how that happened.

[pm] All I did was run. You didn't get hurt or anything?
[pm] Everyone that helped did a lot and you can’t minimize it by saying all you did was run, doesn’t work that way dude. But I’m fine, it was fine in the end. All’s well that ends well.

[pm] I understand. I have been doing best I can. Which is not always my usual best, but it - it is something. It is hard, but it is something that can happen. Just not something I predicted would happen. You know what they did, don’t you?
I know. Luckily I am with a good friend and she helps a lot. I have cried. Which is not something I like but it is showing emotions.
Okay. Good. I should
[pm] That’s all you can do right? Like you’re doing what you can and no one can ask more of you then that, just keep going and it will get easier sooner or later. You guys deserved so much better then this
As long as you’re somewhere that’s safe and with someone that helps, I guess let me know if you need anything.
You two aren’t alone.

[pm] Okay good or I’d have to kick her ghost butt.
I don’t know I feel like the brain cell might be defective.
It really do suck lmao. But it is what is it I guess. But at least you can carry on the magical torch.
[pm] Don’t worry, me and Jasmine did that already. But thanks for the offer.
Well, we transfer it between the three of us so much that it was bound to take some wear and tear.
It might not come to that, besides, who knows what we can research and find out. Full moon’s on halloween though, that’s ... spooky.

This tea is also great even when you don’t have a hangover. I genuinely hope you enjoy drinking it, even if you don’t end up trying that tequila.

[pm] My parents knew my brother was living with you They I worry I People want to help. Which I appreciate, but I also just want to bury myself under blankets and not do anything. I did go back to classes. I think I zoned out. I still hear them all the time and I can’t stop seeing
What do you know I think moving on is the best one can do. Since we can’t change the past. Only move on.
Is Ri okay? Can you tell him I love
That’s understandable. I guess keeping busy is a way to keep your mind off of it but remember that everyone copes and mourns in different ways. I know it must be tough losing those abusive assholes your parents but I guess it’ll be conflicting for a while.
You can’t change the past but you certainly have to feel these emotions. You can’t just bottle them up.
Yeah I think he’s actually doing better then ev As okay as you can be after killing your parents what happened.

No need, consider it a gift. Where should I send it? Is that what the kids say? I suppose you’d be more likely to know than I.
Have you never traveled before? I think traveling is a great way to expand your horizons even if you don’t go very far. I could suggest some places if you’d like.
Just send it to the WCPD FAO Winston Dane. Saves me giving out my address online not that I don’t trust you or anything just better safe then sorry
I mean, I’ve done some travelling like out of state but I’ve never really had the time or the cash to go and now that I do I never get an opportunity to go because if I try and leave White Crest it might blow up

[pm] Are you okay? She didn’t hurt you, did she?
Yeah, I guess it’s my turn to have the brain cell lmao. I’m…not really sure. I feel like it’s just a waiting game at this point. There’s nothing that can be done for it and I hate that  I don’t understand  There’s always been a way out
[pm] No, I’m okay.
Just in the nick of time too I guess. Make sure you get full use out of it!
I’m sorry, that must suck.

[pm] Yeah I saw the news. So far I’ve not actually been bothered by anyone but I’m sure the same can’t be said for you.
I guess this must be hard, but... I think it was the right thing to do.
