I find the idea of Tom and Harry getting married in the butterfly AU hilarious because I imagine after the wedding Tom gets stuff like this:

random person: so I guess all that trying to 'expose Evans' and suspicion and hate was just because Tom was still stuck in the "pull-your-pigtails" way of pursuing your crush, huh

meanwhile Tom overhearing is like: IT WASN'T-- *strangled incoherent rage because he STILL hasn't exposed Evans and he NEVER WILL and now no one will ever think it was anything but Misplaced Love Feelings this entire time*

(And then I read that Astley snippet and realized that it has been like this THE ENTIRE TIME even before they've married, and Tom and Harry marrying was just Tom proving them RIGHT in their eyes :)(

Astley, the more time he spends in Riddle's presence, the more conclusions he starts to draw. By the time he's retired and the wedding invite shows up, he's both exhausted and relieved.

Until he gets there and watches Riddle get fucking dragged from every angle by every guest who are all just tickled pink over how adorable his crush on Evans apparently was.

Astley, who has been forced to watch Evans eye-fuck Riddle over the interrogation table, and has heard this exact conversation happen -

"I'll fucking strangle you," Riddle hissed.

"Don't threaten me with a good time," Evans purred.

- just knocks back his firewhiskey and makes plans to get so drunk he wipes the last thirty years from his memory.
