yes i support all mental health conditions but you should shower every day and if you can’t clean your own living area you’re gross and you have to talk in a way i understand you can be weird but not that weird and you can’t have really bad impulsive thoughts and you can’t have ritualistic behaviour and you can’t ever act out or else you’re using your mental health as an excuse and you need to be well-groomed and you should be employed or a student and — Wait what do you mean I don’t support mental health conditions? I just said I did, didn’t I?

The other day I told a friend of mine that I never forget to take my ADHD meds because I fucking love my ADHD meds. I'm in my late 30s, I didn't finally get a diagnosis and meds until less than two years ago, and they have changed my entire life.
And he raised his eyebrow at me. We'd been discussing addictive medications a few minutes before, like the Tramadol I finally got from the pain specialist to take once a week or so to give me a break from my chronic pain, so I reassured him that methylpenidate (Ritalin/Concerta) is not addictive (at least not in people with ADHD).
His response? To raise his eyebrow even harder and say "Well it sure SOUNDS like it's addictive!"
And I had to explain to this man - who works in a healthcare related job by the way - that just because medication makes you feel good and helps you, just because you look forward to taking it, that doesn't make it addictive or dangerous. And he wasn't convinced.
The simple fact that I was excited to take a daily pill that has literally changed my life, after decades of fighting to get that medication, made him think I shouldn't be taking it so often. That it must inherently be dangerous.
I'm not even in America, but I'm pretty sure this attitude began there and then spread over here to Europe. This Puritan idea of "if something feels good, you must beware of it. Pleasure is dangerous, it is sinful, it is addiction, it is evil."
I know too many people who subconsciously believe that pleasure = addictive = dangerous = bad. Joy is a slippery slope to hell.
So here is your reminder for today that you don't need to be afraid of feeling good. If something improves your life, use it. Even if it is addictive - learn what that addiction means, whether the addiction is inherently dangerous or not, and whether the benefits outweigh the drawbacks and risks.
My ADHD meds are, in fact, not addictive. But I will take them every day because they make my life orders of magnitude easier. I will enjoy them every time I take them.
My tramadol is addictive. I will still take it. I will keep it on a schedule to avoid becoming addicted, primarily because addiction in this case would mean reduced effectiveness. But I am not afraid of my painkillers. They are life changing.
Take your meds, everyone. Don't let anyone scare you away from doing something that improves your life.

The slowed-down Chipmunks are both brilliant and terrifying
By now, we’re all pretty used to people speeding up vocal samples to make them sound like Alvin And The Chipmunks. It’s how Kanye West launched his career. But what happens when you slow down Alvin And The Chipmunks so much that the vocals sound like they were sung by a regular human? As it turns out, you get an amazing collision of pop vocals and sludge-filled doom metal instrumentals.
Toronto-based electronic musician Brian Borcherdt, best known for his work with Holy Fuck, is the mind behind chipmunkson16speed, which is the result of finding both a bunch of old Chipmunks records and a suitcase record player with 16 RPM setting.

KOSA UPDATE:
The bill now has a total of 62 co-sponsors (Dems and Republicans). They purportedly rewrote the bill to "address concerns", but the bill would still require you to upload your govt ID and use an age-gate in order to access information on the web.
LGBT+ advocacy organizations such as the Trevor Project, GLAAD, Human Rights Campaign, PFLAG National, National Center for Lesbian Rights, and National Center for Transgender Rights, withdrawn their opposition against the bill.
We have until next week (2/26/24), maybe, to get louder about this.

please consider making a short video using the hashtags #KOSALies, #SocialMediaSavedMyLife

Don't just reblog this. Interact with the above items. Use your best judgement when writing in or calling your reps. Just let them know you oppose this and the ramifications it could have for your internet privacy, personal security, and the safety of youths.

when a pelican bites you there's no malice in their eyes. they aren't upset at you. they are just hungry and want to see if you fit in their mouths. and if you don't then it's no problem and everything is fine. and if you do then well i guess your fate is sealed but that's ok it's a beautiful animal

Before anyone tries to murder me, I'm not trying to "cancel" the Batfandom. I love Batfam and will continue to. But a lot of posts call out a specific part of canon as problematic completely ignoring the root source.
"Making Babs walk again is ableist." Yeah, it was. But they also made Babs disabled because able-bodied writers see being disabled as a fate worse than death.
"Making Talia a rapist is racist." The Al Ghuls are racist. The entire concept of "evil arab assassins who are terrorists" is racist. Damian Wayne's creation was racist.
"Sexualizing Dick Grayson is antiziganism." Making a poor circus performer Romani was antiziganist from the get go.
"Making Cass talk is ableist" I hate to tell you this but making the Asian girl an living tool for murder was racist actually.
"People not acknowledging Bruce as Jewish is antisemitic" Batman was made by Jewish writers, so it's definitely not antisemitic for him to be Jewish. He should be. But honestly do you think that highlighting the Jewishness of the superhero symbolized by literal vermin is going to sit well on every single Jewish person ever?
"Not letting Kate get her happy ending is lesbophobic" bruh they made the Lesbian a US soldier.
"People ship Bruce with his sons and that's pedophilic" Did you know in the 50s-60s Robin was considered and adult man and Batman and Robin were the most widely acknowledged gay icons in that time by gay men and retconning Robin back down to a child was done in large part to demonize the people (gay men) who identified with them back at that time.
I love batman, I do. But y'all really sort of only think about how problematic it is when it's about your least favorite parts of canon, when in reality, Batman as a franchise has had deep roots of racism, queerphobia, and abelism for decades now.
