Crista can certainly be selfish at times, but largely just for survival, not because they want to screw anyone over; they’re a draft-dodging hiveless maroon with magic, after all. They’ll eventually settle in Wisp’s Hollow, most likely, but they’re shy about asking and struggle to feel ‘worthy’ of a place there.

#writing more of their backstory is on my eventual to do list #I have the two drabbles for it currently but there is so much more lol

And likewise I find it baffling and ridiculous when someone acts like a character isn’t so bad or else is secretly kind when the evidence clearly contradicts that.

I will always, always prioritize Tuuya being shit garbage over their acts of kindness, because oh boy is there a lot of garbage, even if they’re overall better now. Thrixe has a bad track record too, though admittedly his is more due to how he was raised.

Ullane’s I don’t think I even have to mention after More to Lose. Gliese is the most obvious shithead of the four, tbh, pretty clear there.

I dislike acting like my characters are So Great, enjoy roasting them, and want their nuances of awfulness (and decency) to be plain

Here's the thing I keep trying to articulate and possibly failing: I don't actually mind characters who are terrible people. I have enjoyed many. What I mind is characters who are terrible people while the narrative keeps trying to say that they are wonderful, often contradicting what the narrative shows us, with no self awareness

It’s not even that Jikiro is unthreatening (he sure as fuck can be if he goes more demonic mode, though he rarely does) but he’s still basically a troll, just undead. Even his more demonic aspect is the result of magnifying his existing emotions and magic, not changing him as a person.

So I guess he technically counts if you count him as a zombie, but he’s barely different than a regular troll for the most part.

I think Arty has ascended past the level of cursed Tuuya is now, tbh. And Tuuya is deeply cursed. But Arty's just more cursed somehow, despite having technically done a lot less cursed shit.
