oooh i love this ep!

the true catalyst of this episode is the differences between emma & rikki, they’re opposing elements - fire & ice. at first glance it may seem out of character, but emma lashing out was due to her insecurities and even jealousy of rikki boiling over. she tries so hard to be the perfect daughter, the perfect sister, the perfect friend but it’s impossible to manage all at once. she throws the party in the first place because she wants to “prove she can be fun”. in the areas emma struggles in, they seem to come effortlessly to rikki. emma is organized and neat , trying to be perfect to win her family’s love, but when rikki makes a mess in the kitchen elliot says “i wish my sister was more like you”. id be hurt too!!!

also I love the idea of them swapping lockets! I imagine rikki was really jealous when she found out emma gave her locket to cleo <\3

you know, while on the topic of inconsistent writing, ep. Ice & Fire is just…off. suddenly Emma doesn’t want to spend time with Rikki, when since DAY ONE they’ve been shown to hang out multiple times, just the two of them?? like I get the writers wanted to show how they are the opposites, but it was just not it. also, the whole bathroom mess? I really don’t like the implications. just because Rikki is poor doesn’t mean she’s a slob :/ (btw, if for a moment we pretend s3 exist, it’s Rikki and Emma that should’ve swapped the lockets)

you’re not wrong anon!!! i guess having rikki and her poor hygiene staying at her house for several days is different than spending time together in the outside world, but it is a little strange since emma is madly in love with rikki spends all her spare time with the besties and clearly adores rikki. i do loathe the classist implications that rikki is messy bc she’s poor, whereas upper middle class emma is perfectly neat, i have no defence for that!!!

thinking about the implications of rikki wearing emma’s locket after she leaves is making my rikma brain go absolutely feral… emma keeping rikki’s locket with her on her travels is also a galaxy brain concept imo!!!
