Was talking with my mom a few weeks ago and we're talking about bullying and the movie "You Again" and how infuriating it was how the family disregarded Marni's feelings when she was uncomfortable with interacting with her future sister in law: her literal bully from high school.
Let's start with this, Joanna isn't simply an arch nemesis of Marni. She emotionally and physically abused her, constantly shoving her on hallways and calling out her insecurities, rejoicing at every chance she gets to punch her self esteem. They didn't show much, but the scene where she shows the video from the time capsule, it's actually disgusting how Marni was treated.
We do see a lot with parents playing bullying to be just drama between kids, or light teasing. Also many believing if you ignore it it will go away. But that was the problem. Marni never defended herself, which made her an easy target.
The only one that stood by her side since he found out who Joanna was and what she did to his sister was Marni's little brother. Who I really think he understood her the best because he was still in school but the movie sets it up as Marni behaving like a kid.
Even though she forgives Joanna by the end to let her brother be happy, she is expected from the very start to accept the one that tortured her for her teen years and also threatens her when she pulled her aside and tried to talk it out.
The brother is understandably upset with his engagement party being ruined, but he did the right thing at that moment by dumping her because she lied to him and found out what a horrible person she was. She was able to talk to her brother and he forgave her and expressed genuine regret for ignoring what she had to say and was just disappointed about the person he chose.
It should have ended there! Learn the lesson, move on! Get to know people before committing to them, let them meet the family and hear the family out! ESPECIALLY IF YOUR LITTLE SISTER SUFFERED AT THEIR HANDS FOR YEARS.
I just really, really wish that movie went a different direction.

CSI: Miami is fucking amazing. Just watched a badly edited scene of a woman jump in front of a bus with evanescence "wake me up inside" on the background.
It's season 3 episode three if you were wondering.

Being a graphic design student teaches you that the best gift you can give to your fellow students, teachers and family are stickers. That's it. Stickers.
One of our first projects was to make our own identification stickers to put in out assignments and we had to print a bunch so as to make a trade with the whole classroom. Everyone had SO much fun.
My sister's favourite part of my university is when I come from the market day because there are so many students selling their own stickers because I always bring her some. (They also sell homemade cooking, handmade jewelry and decorations and thrifted clothes and more)
You want to elevate a gift? Throw stickers in there!!! What's their favourite movie? What fandom are they in? What's their favourite animal? Make a sticker of it!
Anyways the solution to many problems are stickers.

I'm really liking this era of reality show competitions that I believe started from the great british bake off, where it´s a competition, everyone wants to win, but it´s such a friendly and supportive environment.
Like, I love RuPaul's Drag Race, but I watch it because of the genuine talent and culture behind drag and even though it makes really good memes or interesting plays like in All Stars, sometimes the drama is too much.
So it's nice to have shows like Next in Fashion, Blown Away, Academy of Chocolate and such, they make me so happy. Like, honestly for mental health purposes, go to the Reality Show section of Netflix.
Bonus points for also doing these shows about not regular stuff that allows people to showcase their talent and those in the field of arts get an impulse and profit even if they do not win.

Since watching Wednesday, really liked it, Jenna Ortega did a fantastic job. But with the whole "love triangle" thing I couldn't take something off my mind.
If Rowan had lived, Wednesday would´ve gravitated towards him for sure. I mean he checks out all the boxes:
Tried to kill her
Nerd
Outcast of outcasts
Cool powers
Glasses
She may have a little doubt for him trying to muder her but everything else makes the equation for Wednesday´s type.
I mean, you all remember the movie where she likes the kid with glasses and asthma???

So far some takes I've seen!
I saw a tik tok saying that Dolores' room would have to be the most padded one of the whole house so she can sleep, but imo given that Dolores' has even mentioned she could hear Luisa's eye twitching during the night, might explain that she still hears very well. Also it'd look like a psichiatric cage, this girl could hear Mariano reciting poetry from his house, it'd have to be hella padded.
Saw one where Alma's room is solely candle lit (fire hazzard)
And the other one I came across in pinterest someone drew Camilo's room as full of portraits of people, which was cool and creepy somehow.
Watching encanto for a second time, I'd like to know how everyone imagines the rest of the family's rooms would've looked like!
We only get a look into the rooms of Isabela, Antonio and Bruno, and they were pretty wild.
Bruno's room is made so he can make his predictions (he needs a big room) and the sand, well, represents time.
Antonio's looks straight out of the jungle book.
Isabela is wall to wall covered in flowers (honestly, even if she can grow flowers in every surface possible I believe her rooms is a block of soil)
So I was really racking my brain trying to imagine Julieta's, Luisa's and Camilo's rooms and I can't really think what they would look like. Not to mention Dolores! Pepa's is a bit easier to imagine tho.

I think one of the most hurtful thing that people could have said about Encanto was the argument "Pepa isn't truly Latina as she has very fair skin", and it's infuriating. And every Latin American and all who had common sense very quickly shut it down, but it’s amazing that it crossed people’s minds in the first place!
There’re three main variables to the varying skin tones (at least in Latin America):
· History: From natives, colonizers and more.
· Immigration: Current and in the past.
· Location: How close it is to the equator.
Everything else has to do with individual life of each person.
But I don’t think it’s just because people are dumb, Hollywood movies have mostly exposed to the sheltered individual only one type of Latin American character: skin is a dark tan, dark eyes and dark hair. Always used either for the sex appeal or for the comedic relief, and many times the same job (cleaning lady, part-time in a store, mechanic or something illegal). And that has to do a lot with how people’s warped views on an entire culture (not to mention some people when told Latina/o they only think Mexican).
The whole spectrum of skin tones is present in Latin America, and you can find so many creators and actors from Latin America that can showcase this, from people like brazillian singer Ludmilla, Venezuelan content creator and singer Lele Pons, Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt, Argentinian singer Gilda, Chilean musician Mon Laferte, and so many more!
These are just some artists that I could think of, but I’m sure people will add to the list. The best thing you can do when you realize the only information you have about a culture and/or ethnicity is just from movies and shows, then I’d recommend you do your own research.

Saw a tik tok of a girl rating Holiday Barbies through the years and as someone that doesn't collect dolls but really loves aesthetic and other people collect them, late 2010's holiday barbies are dissapointing.
So, anyway, I was thinking on how I would design my own holiday barbie thinking of a dress inspired by velvet theater curtains and wanted to add pieces from my personal favorite holiday barbie doll (2002) I ended designing three barbies telling a storyline inspired by the thing they did with one of the haunted beauty barbie collection dolls (made a pre-villain origin story version of the mistress of the manor barbie) of a barbie going through the fame of a great theater actress going from a young country girl eager to start acting in big roles (christine vibes from phantom of the opera), to a young woman quickly rising up to fame and still passionate about theater to a fucking drama queen.

A few months ago I came across a reddit thread asking "what are some things that in movies and series are normalized but shouldn't?"
At the time I answered that instead of breaking up with your partner, you go on a self discovery journey and find your true love and cheat on that person, making the big climax of the movie that partner discovering the affair.
A lot of people also answered things related to cheating, but recently I realized that it wasn't only the "self discovery journey that makes me actually listen to my friends saying that my partner isn't the right one for me and instead of breaking up with them because I believe it's too cruel I cheat on them" but normalizing being in a relationship with someone that doesn't share the same goals as you do.
Think about it, how many romance stories have that same storyline?
Person A is in a committed relationship with Person B, whether by marriage or not. Movie makes it very clear that these two have very different goals in life. These goals are usually:
One wants to have kids, one does not.
One wants to accept a promotion in the job they love even if it means moving out, one does not.
One wants to get married, one does not.
One wants to travel the world, one does not.
Because movies normalize having this relationship in order to put drama and conflict before the climax and the true love happy ending, some people expect the fact that they have to deal with it. An eye for an eye kind of thing, for the happiness of the other one will have to be unhappy. That's the rule.
When, obviously, it shouldn't.
Take Pixar's movie Up as an example. Even if they had hardship, they both had the same goals, they wanted to go on adventure, repair their house and leave it the best way possible and have kids.
If anyone has a recommendation for a romance movie in which the characters share the same goal or at least the person that realizes they aren't with the right one are civil adults and break up with them instead of downright starting an affair, please tell me.

I realize know that during primary school the taller girls, even if they were 11 years old, were expected to have more maturity because of their appearance. Idk if this happened to anyone else or if they ever saw it, but I, as a very average height kid, could see that teachers relied on the taller girls to step up to the role of responsibility and were quickly to be judged if they acted their age because of their mature appearance.
Look, just thought of this. Tall Girl, the netflix fiasco of a movie that was a shitty teen romance movie with a post it note with low quality adhesive that says "love urself" could've been a hell of a lot better if they focused on the insecurity aspect of the "storyline".
Have in mind that I do not remember the name of ANY character so bear with me please.
I think the movie had an interesting point with tackling an insecurity that a lot of tall women have: their height.
I remember hearing of the movie about a teenage girl that was way taller than the average adolescent girl and being her main insecurity and also interrupting her love life, and I thought it was neat. Then the trailer came out and I knew from the "YoU tHiNk YoUr LiFe iS hArD?" that it was only going down from there.
So, how could this movie be better?
1) Firstly, fucking erase the "forever friend zone" and extremely jealous childhood best friend persona and replace for the actual definition of a "short king".
I think a better character would be a short himbo character. Keeping the comedy relief character and taking away that hopeless incel that thinks he's the best for her. A beefy short himbo that plays sports and is both in the football team and in the art club, someone that is a bad liar but will do anything to make his childhood friend feel good about herself and make some funny attempts at making her as beautiful as she is, and that attempt is introducing her to a teammate that has some things in common with her and seems like her type even though he likes her so much, but hey, if this will make her happy, he's happy. (Good chance for drama in the story)
Making the end of both starting a relationship feel more natural.
*In addition you can also get the lesson from himbo who's a short guy but still does whatever he wwants and plays football, a sport mainly dominated buy huge guys but he doesn't feel intimidated bc he doesn't care.
2) Let's get rid of the tall handsome foreign exchange student and replace him for someone that is in childhood friend's football team. A tall handsome sporty guy that enjoys playing the piano.
But, hey, things don't always work out. So why not make it as if both are trying to figure out how to like each other?
They are both each other's type, the have similar interests and their own insecurities...but why can't neither of them find any feelings of love? Then let's make them friends.
3) I think that instead a popular mean girl, the antagonist of the movie should be a friend of hers. But this antagonist doesn't outright bully her, or steal her boyfriend. She's someone that unknowingly fucks up the main girl's self-esteem.
Main girl is a tall, blonde, beautiful and incredibly talented girl. How does the "friend" play the role of a villain? By comments that people usually see as compliments, and these "compliments" are:
"What are you so insecure about? You're pretty; you make everyone else feel bad"
"I wish I were as tall as you"
"You two are perfect for eachother! You guys should definitely date!"
This kind of person, which I think is going to be the most relatable point for a lot of people regardless of their appearance. I myself have gone through this and the people making these comments didn’t realize how hurtful they were until I told them and then they stopped.
How many people have been told they shouldn’t be insecure because they are thin? How many had to go through feeling bad about themselves because other people wished for their attributes?
Great for drama. Maybe an argument or a fall out but in the end it’s solved by character development and a journey both the main girl and her friend do about self-esteem and self-image.
4) Instead of having the all wise friend that loves themselves and only has words of wisdom, why not use a character that has their flaws and insecurities as well but has an outside perspective so they can see the good points of the main girl? And what better character than the himbo’s teammate?
They don’t have romantic feelings for eachother, but that doesn’t mean they won’t try to be a good friend to eachother. He could be the one that calls out this behaviour from the “friend” and encourages her to confront her.
Why not himbo? Easy, he’s not that good with social hints and doesn’t really hang out with that other girl he never sees this or has main girl mentioned this behaviour to him. But, teammate? He’s basically her therapist at this point. He knows.
5) The movie should’ve included a lot more tall people everyday problems than the ones showed. Such as:
· Clothes shopping. (Cute pants! Wait, to short…)
· Spaces! (Door frames are too low, kinda awkward to stand up in public bathrooms)
· Constant back pain (friends are too short to talk face to face with)
And keep the parts of bad jokes about someone’s height or guys getting intimidated by the idea of dating a girl taller than they are.
Instead of the kids making fun of her wish to become a pianist make them make fun of her height, calling her names and the only way for her to defend herself is either stay quiet or intimidate them which would get her in trouble.
6) Put a lot of focus in the fact even though she’s tall she isn’t into sports. You may not get shamed but have her go through the constant annoyance of people’s first question isn’t “what do you like?” instead “do you do sports? Make her constantly try to evade the gym teachers from the different sports clubs because no, she doesn’t want to play basketball, volleyball or be in the swimming team. She’s a relaxed girl, she likes to read and play piano, and she’d rather go home and lay in bed with a good series and have the time of her life.
7) We can end it with prom, but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GIVE HER A GOOD OUTFIT NOT THAT UGLY ASS SUIT. Do you know how many good jumpsuits, suits and gowns would be perfect for a tall girl?
Also, himbo is her prom date and he’s absolutely ecstatic to be with her and make her feel so comfortable and happy that none of them pay attention to the few people that make jokes about the height difference and having the friend, that went through a character arc, shush them and turn lovingly and happy for her friend finding someone that’s just perfect for her.
And that’s it, the end. Tall Girl.
