left alone - sam x reader
You sat cross-legged on the battered leather sofa, leant over the coffee table awkwardly reaching out for your phone. The display screen flashed with the message 'no new notifications' and your heart sank further into your already weakening chest. Sam and Dean had left earlier that day, without asking you about whether you wanted to join them on that particular hunt. You at least expected Sam to talk to you, he usually did, with kind words and a furrowed brow explaining the situation. They had been gone for most of the day, and the outlines of a crimson red sunset were now visible through the motel blinds. Exhaling loudly, you stood up, stretching your weary legs that had become somewhat immobile due to how long you'd been sat down.
When Sam walked in just over half an hour later, you had returned to the kitchen in your pyjama shorts and tank top, hair loosely braided over your shoulder. You turned to him, placing the mug of coffee you'd made down on the counter and waiting for the excuses to flood your ears. "(Y/N)... I'm sorry we should have told you, I just..." He began, stepping closer to you and extending his hand.
"Sam, no. I don't want to hear it okay?" Your tone became punctuated with anger and hurt, "It's because I'm not good enough, isn't it? You think I'm a useless hunter and no good to anyone."
Sam's eyes widened in horror, and he strode towards you, "Don't you ever say that (Y/N). If only you knew how important you were to me and Dean maybe you'd understand." A small sob escaped your lips, and you couldn't face him anymore, "Sam, I do understand. You go out on long hunts for the sake of it and hope that when you come back, I'll be gone. I'm only here because you felt sorry for me once. Simple." Sam moved to pull you into him, but you weren't having it. Turning towards the bathroom door, you quickly walked inside and bolted the door, needing to be alone. Once inside the bathroom, all your bottled up emotions came pouring out in a hot flurry of tears cascading down your cheeks, you were aware of Sam knocking on the door and calling your name softly. Still, you knew he would leave eventually if you ignored his pleas. "Y/N? Please listen to me. You mean everything to Dean and me. You are one of the best hunters we've ever met, and that's no lie, but sometimes hunts are extremely dangerous, you know that. We... I...can't bear to see you hurt or worse, because we couldn't be there to protect you at the right time. I've come to depend on your company in a lot of ways. Seeing you smile is one of the most beautiful things in this world... And hell probably in any other world too." You didn't know how long you had been leaning against the bathroom door, slumping forward with your head in your hands, recalling the sweet things Sam had said to you. It was apparent he had become overcome with fatigue and succumbed to sleep, as you could hear soft hushed breathing coming from the other side of the door and the occasional shifting of limbs. Guilt washed over you, he had been hunting all day and you had only added to that stress. Carefully, you unbolted the door, peering down you saw Sam's eyes open wide and he looked up at you, an expression of hope drawn across his features. How could you deny how much you loved this man anymore? With one swift motion, he moved away and stood, brushing himself down and gazing at you in a way that made your heart pound and your cheeks flush. Taking a small step towards him, it gathered all your courage to look into his eyes, all remnants of anger towards him long since forgotten.
Finally, it was Sam who gave in, pulling you to him and entangling you in a tight embrace. He must have guessed that he was on the verge of making you cough up your lungs, so he loosened his grip, letting out a small laugh of relief. You, in turn, wrapped your arms around his waist and buried your head into his chest. "Sam... Will you, er would you sleep with me tonight? I haven't been able to sleep these past few nights, and it would really help to have you there." You asked nervously, swallowing your rising nerves with a few hiccups. He sighed softly against your hair, "Y/N it would be my pleasure."
You lay entwined in each other between the roughly strewn sheets of the bed, Sam's content expression was mirroring yours as he drew soothing circles on your palm. Now you could see up close just how worn out and tired he looked, how selfish you had been to make him go through what you had.
You only hoped that quiet nights like this would be a frequent occurrence.

You hadn't wanted to go out, but your eager group of friends had insisted that you do something else other than sit in and read on a Saturday night, disagreeing with them had supposedly been out of the question.
"Y/N you look great, trust me!"
"I really don't want to be here..." You mumble as you shuffle awkwardly into the unwelcoming blackness, hoping they would hear and at least feel a little bad for dragging you here. Calling the bar crowded was probably the biggest understatement your friend could have made, the number of people in there made you want to run outside and gasp for air. Social situations were not your thing, but no one seemed to understand that saying 'Stop being so quiet' was quite simply going to have no effect on the matter no matter how many times they told you. It only took twenty minutes before you decided enough was enough, the only men that had talked to you were either drunk or just plain disgusting. Letting out a sharp exhale of breath, you sat down in a less busy corner of the bar, leaving your friends giggling remarks about you wanting to blend in with the wallpaper.
"Do you mind if I sit here?"
A deep voice made you look up, a pink flush began spreading across your cheeks as you registered that the guy was super attractive. "Y-yeah... Sure." The man gave you a small smile before sitting down on the cushioned bench next to you. "I'm Sam by the way." "Y/N." You give him the tiniest hint of a smile, but it was all you could manage. The night had worn you out, and it had literally been an hour since you arrived. "You don't look too happy to be here." Sam chuckled softly, his eyes warm and kind. You turned to face him, rolling your eyes and sighing loudly. "How anyone can call this 'fun' I'll never understand... This is possibly the worst place to bring an introvert." You stopped talking, blushing again and looking down at your hands, feeling a weight shift at the end of the bench you figured Sam had left. So it came as a shock when you glanced up to see him sat closer to you than before. "I agree..." His soft voice almost inaudible over the roar of human laughter and music. "I want to be at home with a book and-" the man next to you let out a laugh, which you took to mean as was messing with you, he thought you strange, just like everyone did. Clenching your jaw, you shifted away from probably the only sober man in the bar and decided you'd had enough. Gathering up your purse, you stood up to leave. "Stay, please, I'm sorry if I've offended you Y/N, I didn't mean to... I was just nervous, you're so beautiful." Sam met your gaze, his lips curling into a worried frown, he sounded so genuine, and you began to realise his laugh had probably not been one of mockery but one of understanding. It was crazy to you to think this man actually wanted to be here with you, rather than hooking up with one of the many beautiful women dancing in front of you.
Sam looked over at you sympathetically, “My brother is here too. I lost him a while ago. This isn’t really my scene either.” Resuming your seat, secretly thanking your friends for making you go out, you smiled for the first time that night, hoping that you could get to know him a little better. Sam nudged you with his elbow, "Hey, we can be alone together."

The familiar noise of wailing children and babies made your ears ring and your nose wrinkle up in annoyance. Every single damn day, some parent would drag their screaming child inside the convenience store, trying to bribe it to be quiet with candy. Every hour was monotonous and dragged out until the bell rang, signalling the end of your shift. If you could, you would leave this dead-end job and explore the world, but that was a cliche wish and one you were slowly giving up on."Uh, excuse me?" A male voice interrupted your thoughts, and you snapped out of your daze, looking up to find an extremely tall man in a blue plaid shirt stood in front of you. He was scratching the back of his head in what you expected was annoyance. "I'm sorry, what can I do for you, sir?" You chirruped in your oh so fake 'happy to help' tone. "I wanted to ask you a few questions about Jed? I'm his cousin who's come from Atlanta to visit him, and he's been acting strange recently... Do you have any idea why that could be?" The man's voice and his soft features made your brain turn to mush, and it took you a few seconds to respond, mentally scolding yourself. "Uh, sure thing. Look, my shift ends in five minutes. I'll answer your questions then if that's okay?" you gave him a genuine smile, your tone returning to normal. This guy was obviously smart enough not to fall for the charming voice you had to put on for other customers. Plus he was kind of cute... "Alright, thanks, er Y/N is it?" you nodded in conformation as he looked at your name badge. Five minutes later, you heard the bell, and mentally fist punched the air as you walked towards the back room, stripping off your work clothes and putting on some jeans and a tank top. You ambled towards the radio, which was blaring out 'Wanted Dead or Alive' by Bon Jovi. You turned up the volume and began dancing along, singing each word relatively in tune. When the chorus started you spun around at the sound of someone joining in with your singing, it was the guy from earlier. You didn't know what else to do but grin sheepishly as you both stopped singing at the same time, the grin still plastered on your face. "I'm sorry I just really like this song." You gasped, letting out a small, breathy laugh, scratching the back of your head nervously. The man nodded, a smile creeping onto his face, "I didn't mean to disturb you, I'm Sam by the way.""S'ok, really." You shrugged casually, walking over to two empty overturned fruit crates and gesturing for him to sit. "What do you wanna know about Jed?" You sat opposite him, trying hard not to keep staring at his lips and keep cool, but damn it was hard. The first half of your conversation was all about Jed and his overly weird habits. Still, as you became more comfortable around Sam, you both began to drift off-topic, telling him about your wish to travel and he in return telling you about his brother, Dean. You weren't sure how long you had been sat there, but when Sam finally stood up and stretched his arms above his head, exclaiming how he should really get going, you nearly pulled him back down and begged him to stay. Being able to talk to someone so openly had done wonders for your confidence. Thankfully you had at least some self-control and nodded, leading him out of the room out to the back yard. You sketched a wave as he began to walk away, shouting back over his shoulder a hasty goodbye. "See ya around Y/N." "Bye, Sam." You leant against the brick wall, watching him walk away, groaning in frustration that you hadn't had the guts to get his number or even a last name. The next few days were relatively normal, apart from the apparent increase in robberies in your area that kept everyone on their toes. You also kept seeing Sam everywhere you went, the library, the little cafe on the corner and even at the park. When you saw him walking outside the store where you worked, you decided to confront him. It was getting kind of creepy. "Are you stalking me or something?" He jumped, spinning on his heels to face you, his cheeks brushed with pink. "No. No, of course not... Just a coincidence." He trailed off, obviously hiding something. "C'mon Sam. I've seen you literally everywhere-" you never got to finish your rant, he was staring straight ahead, past you. Suddenly Sam pulled you down onto the floor, yelling "Duck!" You were about to struggle out of his grasp when you heard a gunshot and a bullet fly past your head. Adrenaline rushed through your system, and you reached for his hand, which intertwined with yours tightly. "Round the back." You whispered, hardly able to speak from pure shock. He pulled you up and pushed you in front of him, murmuring that it was okay and that he had your back. His hand still gripped tightly in yours, you crept round the back of the store, gulping large breaths of air into your lungs trying to stop the oncoming panic attack you could feel rising within you.Once you had snuck into the back room and barricaded the door, you and Sam turned to face each other, his hand snaking to your waist, then he pulled you to him into a warm embrace, holding the back of your head and stroking your hair slowly. "I was trying to protect you." Sam murmured into your neck, making you look up in surprise, nodding for him to continue. "Well... It's hard to explain, but Jed has gone all 'psycho' on us, and I knew he would try and come after you, and the store. Thing is I don't know why..." You buried your head in his chest, letting out a small sob, the serious reality of the situation sinking in. It appeared your coworker had it out for you in the worst way. Sam began to draw lazy circles on your back with his finger, murmuring words of comfort into your ear until your breathing slowed and your sobs gradually ceased. "I'm not going to let you get hurt okay Y/N? Trust me. Hang on, I think I better call Dean." He pulled his arms away from your waist and reached into his pocket, pulling out his phone, he walked across the room, put it to his ear, and began talking. His words were all a blur to you, and you couldn't work out what he was saying, so you sunk onto the floor, head cradled in your hands. A few seconds later, you felt a hand on your knee, and you looked up to see Sam's face inches from yours, "Alright?" You just nodded numbly in response, "I'm going to take you somewhere safe, but I'm sorry you can't go home just yet, that's exactly where Jed would expect you to go... It would be too easy." "Why me? I'm nothing special..." "Don't say that Y/N. Of course you are. You will be safe with me, I promise.“ Sam looked down at his phone as a text flashed up on the screen, “Dean is outside waiting for us, are you ready to go?"
You didn't reply, not even a nod or shake of the head, this was all too much. All you could do was look at the man in front of you, wondering how this had happened so fast. Somehow, when you felt Sam's soft lips press against yours, you reciprocated almost immediately, your lips melting together. He pulled away after several seconds, you bit down on your lip to stop a whine of disapproval at the loss of his mouth on yours.
"Ready?"
You smiled softly, a blush staining your cheeks, trusting the man knelt before you and his kind words absolutely. "I guess so."

waiter - sam x reader
(So I am moving my Wattpad one shots onto Tumblr so they’re better organised.)
Y/N is on a terrible date, the only thing keeping her spirits up is the waiter.
Dating apps had never really been your thing, building a relationship based on pictures and a 50 word description just seemed totally unnatural. There was no way of knowing that an individual was the same as their online persona, or even the same person. However, your best friend had convinced you that meeting someone new would be so much easier online, hundreds of potential dates at your fingertips. You knew she had meant well, and wanted you to get back out there after your ex disappeared. This is how you had ended up in the situation you were currently in, sat in an overpriced Italian restaurant staring at your glass of white wine, the distorted lobster tank visible through the alcohol. The date had already got off to a bad start, your phone blowing up with several apology texts to let you know he was running late. Not just five, ten minutes late, but a whole forty minutes. You had been sat alone for half an hour by now, the glass of wine draining as fast as your patience. You sensed someone looking over at you, and out of the corner of your eye you saw one of the waiters looking in your direction. He had a kind face, his hair framing his chiselled jaw perfectly. Even though he was a tall man his eyes were far from intimidating, instead radiating softness that almost seemed to sooth your bubbling anger.
It was forty minutes after your agreed meeting time that your date finally swanned into the restaurant, you clocked him immediately because of his unusual tattoo, one of a large crimson spider on his hand, its web extending up his forearm. His dating profile went into great detail about the meaning behind the tattoo, but you couldn't help but feel strange about seeing it in real life. I guess you just figured that if your date was not who he said he was, it would be over so much quicker. Your phone buzzed, a good luck text from your best friend, you sent her a message that he had arrived then placed it back into your pocket.
"Hi, you must be Roland?" "Yep, and you look real weird with glasses, talk about false advertising."
There was no explanation for his late arrival,  just an unnecessary remark about your glasses, you had a feeling already that you'd made a mistake, and that was confirmed when he sat down and asked what your name was. You blinked at him, unsure if he was trying to be amusing, his scrunched up face proved he had indeed no idea who you were. 'I'm Y/N? We've literally been talking for a few days." Roland leaned back in his chair, looking you up and down, "Guess your profile wasn't that enticing huh, besides I go on so many dates and women can't resist me." He was thankfully interrupted by the waiter from earlier coming over to your table, placing down two menus and asking if he could get you anything. Roland placed his phone on the table checking it for messages before waving the waiter away. At this point you were seriously considering just getting up and leaving, this guy was obviously a massive dick. The only thing stopping you was your hollow stomach, maybe you could just make it through the starter. You couldn't help but cringe at the way Roland had treated your server, not wanting to be associated with that kind of mentality.
The starter of tomato and mozzarella bruschetta had only just touched your lips when Roland confirmed your need to get out of there was imminent, "So, we going back to mine or yours? I would offer my place but my mother hates it when I bring girls back." "I'm going back to mine, and you are going far far away from me." "I like girls who play hard to get, I'll wear you down eventually." Placing your half eaten bruschetta back onto the plate you moved to stand up, but before you could Roland grabbed at your sleeve. "C'mon Y/N don't be a bitch, we both know this we have some crazy sexual tension." Yanking your arm away with such force you sent your cutlery flying across the restaurant floor you huffed and readjusted your top. You couldn't even muster a reply, but that kind of attitude did not deserve one. Other people in the restaurant had stopped eating and were staring bug-eyed at the disturbance, not that it deterred Roland, he just sat there smirking cooly in your direction. All the waiters had also stopped to watch the commotion, the one that served you just minutes ago walked briskly over, "Can I help at all?" You opened your mouth to explain but Roland talked over you, his voice sickly like thick syrup, "More wine that's all a man ever needs, and she's good." The server nodded slowly, awkwardly and walked away, clicking his pen rhythmically.
The glint of the fork you had sent flying earlier was your escape, picking it up you walked briskly to the bar where the waiter was pouring the requested wine. "Sorry, and don't worry about another I don't think I'm staying a second longer." The waiter stopped pouring the wine and looked up, his eyes honey brown and sympathetic, "Sounds like you need this," he gestured to the glass of alcohol, "way more than he does." He took the fork from you, his features becoming increasingly concerned, "Your date is in here almost every night, my boss won't bar him because he spends so much money. Him and a few other regulars are keeping this place afloat." Exhaling slowly you glanced behind you, Roland was currently flexing his arm muscles in the direction of another server. A tinkling laugh made you turn around, "You look like you'd rather be in the lobster tank than go back over there." His laugh was the most comforting sound you had heard all evening, "You're so right, that guy is horrible! I don't know why I thought this would be a good idea, I mean I've heard online dating horror stories but you never think it will happen to you." The waiter laughed softly again, the noise making your heart flutter a little, "How about a drink on the house?" You shook your head,  eyes meeting his, "That's okay thanks, I'm driving so no more alcohol for me."
Your conversation was disturbed by Roland striding up to the bar, slamming his spidered fist down a little too close to your hand, "What's going on here huh? You think you can just steal my date punk? Have you seen my tattoo? Do you know what that shit means? No? Well I'll tell you, it means you are about to feel my knuckles up in your face." Without skipping a beat the waiter calmly told him to leave or be forcefully escorted out. Several other waiters had gathered around the original one at this point, and by their facial expressions it felt like they had done this one too many times. Seeing he was outnumbered Roland slammed his fist on the bar again, downed the glass of wine next to you and stormed out of the restaurant, cursing as he left.
Once the normal chatter of the place resumed you went back to your table, collecting your bag, reminding yourself to delete your dating profile as soon as you got home. The waiter you had been talking to earlier came over, his pen tucked neatly behind his ear, "I'm sorry you had such a bad night, I should've warned you about him." You shrugged, looking sadly at the remains of the bruschetta on your plate, "These things happen, you've by far been the highlight of my night so, thank you." He shot you a beaming smile, a hand quickly brushing through his hair, "I'm Sam by the way, and it was my pleasure." Returning the smile you were about to wish him goodnight when he stopped you, "Um, let me know if I'm out of place but.. Maybe I can help you replace this date with a better one?" He searched your face for an answer, his brows furrowed in anticipation, "That sounds perfect Sam. I would like that."
