When going the wrong way, the best thing to do is turn back as quickly as possible
It’s easy to walk into the wrong path, it isn’t for nothing that Jesus describes it as broad (Matthew 7:13), and many things, people and feelings can lead us there. Unfortunately, the walk into destruction often starts quite innocently, as “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 14:12).
However God won’t let us be in the dark forever, just like God sent Nathan to warn David about his sin (2 Samuel 12), God shows us the wrongness of our ways so we might repent our sins. ‭Hebrews 3:15 warns us “while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.””

Holy Week Day 8 - A heart burning with Truth
Luke 24:13-35 tells us about Jesus’ interaction with the disciples on the road to Emmaus. We’re told that Jesus explained to them the prophecies about Himself and when they were finally able to recognize Jesus and He disappeared “They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”” (Luke 24:32).
About the Holy Spirit, Jesus said “When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment:” (John 16:8). God’s word is still talking to us through the Bible or His servants, let’s not ignore the action of the Holy Spirit that makes our hearts burn with the only Truth.

Holy Week Day 7 - Let’s stay still for a moment
Luke 23:50-56 tells us that a man named Joseph took Jesus’ body and buried Him in his family’s tomb, it also tells us that the women that followed Jesus went after them in order to find out where Jesus’ body was buried and “Then they returned and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.” (Luke 23:56).
They probably were eager to come back and take better care of Jesus’ body, but they still respect the Sabbath. Most christians we don’t keep the Sabbath, but we can still learn a valuable lesson from those women.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:” There is a time to act and a time to wait and we need to pray in order to find out what we’re supposed to do in each moment.

Holy Week Day 6 - Be careful what you say
‭Matthew 27:12-14 says “And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing. Then Pilate said to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?” But He answered him not one word, so that the governor marveled greatly.”
Even facing false accusations, Jesus did not lose control of his words, however we tend to say what we shouldn’t even in less extreme situations.
James 3:1-12 warns us about the importance of controlling our tongues. While ‭James 1:26 states “If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.”

Holy Week Day 5 - Intentions are often good at the beginning
John 13 tells us about the last supper. At the end, Jesus tells the apostles He’s going away (John 13:33), Peter then asks where He is going and states he will follow Jesus even if he dies (‭John 13:36-37).
We all know that, as predicted by Jesus (‭John 13:38), Peter would later deny knowing Jesus (‭John 18:16-18), but I’m certain Peter truly believed he was telling the truth.
The problem is that, as flawed humans, we are absolutely fickle. ‭Jeremiah 17:9 says “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?”. We can only trust God’s strength, not our own, to keep us faithful to our decision.

Holy Week Day 4 - The most important first
Matthew 26:14-16 tells us how Judas went to priests in order to become their spy and assist them in their plan to kill Jesus. Judas’ words were “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” (Matthew 26:15).
Long before that Jesus asked “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” (Mark 8:36), and He also used parables to indicate that in order to gain the kingdom of heaven we needed to forfeit everything else (Matthew 13:44-46).
Judas chose to ignore Jesus’ teachings and we all know his end wasn’t a good one and now we face the same choice he had back then. So where will your treasure be?

Holy Week Day 3 - Forgiveness
Mark 11:25 says “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses”.
It’s often hard to follow Jesus’ teachings, but when we have faith in Him, we know His teachings are for our own good. So let’s put our trust on God and let hate and resentment go so we can experience God’s good and acceptable and perfect will (Romans 12:2).

Holy Week Day 2 - Taking advantage of opportunities
Jesus said “For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.” ‭(John 12:8) when Judas criticized Mary for anointing His feet with an expensive oil.
‭Isaiah 38:18 says “For Sheol cannot thank You, Death cannot praise You; Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your truth.”
Let’s us make use of the opportunities to do good to the people around us while we have them.

Holy Week Day 1: Praising the Lord
When the disciples were praising God and Jesus, the Pharisees tried to convince Jesus to make them stop (Luke 19:37-40), however Jesus’ answer was “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.” (Luke 19:40).
As God’s children and servants were called to praise His holy name with our lips and lives:
“Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” (Hebrews 13:15-16)
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” (1 Peter 2:9)
“Then a voice came from the throne, saying, “Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!”” (Revelation 19:5)
