The Rutherford siblings
“Cullen was the second oldest of four. Mia was his elder sister, his brother Branson was younger, and his sister Rosalie was the youngest of them all. Before their father Stanton had gone white at the temples, he had been flaxen and fair, a trait Cullen and his siblings all shared.
Their eyes were their mothers however, Lysa Rutherford had been dark of eye and dark of hair, with high cheeks and a toothy grin. Branson and Rosie took after their mother the most, while Mia and Cullen were their fathers double.
Yet none could deny the thread of genetics that strung them all together, for each were beautiful and bright and golden as their hair.”

Ava was born in the small town of Jonesport, Maine. Her father John was a fisherman and her mother Rachel was a school teacher. Her parents had big dreams but their small town life and poor careers meant they were constantly scraping money together. Ava grew up an only child, unpopular but brainy. She did well at school but was often teased for her appearance, in which she was a tall, lanky child with big glasses and a missing front tooth from a boating accident with her father.
(more under the cut)
Ava grew into an awkward teenager with preferred to read and imagine up wild scenarios on the long walks she took around the coast. When Ava was 15 her mother was killed by a drunk driver. Distraught, Ava had a wild notion that, like the superheroes on tv, she could avenge her mother. Ava found the driver that killed her mother, but when she broke into his home to enact justice he opened fire, thinking is was a thief. Two weeks after the death of her mother, Ava was in hospital with a gunshot wound. Her father was exacerbated and the innocent only served to drive a wedge between them.
A few years later, Avas father was approached by a rich man with an octopus pin, offering help. John Melrose hadn’t made a cent in the 5 years since his wifes death and he was deeper in debt than anyone knew. The man with the pin offered was looking for volunteers for a medical paper he was writing, and wanted Ava. He was willing to pay millions for her, she would come and live with him for a while, earn an income and John could visit whenever he liked. Already at the end of his rope with Ava, John agreed and only informed his daughter she would be leaving the day the man in the octopus pin came back. Ava was, understandably, distraught. She found and kicked and tried to escape when he came for him, but she was no match. Ava Melrose was bundled into a nondescript black hummer and John Melrose never saw his daughter again.
Ava was taken by Hydra scientists, carefully chosen thanks to a shattered home life and a streak of anger that ran through them all. She was one of ten candidates chosen and experimented on. Like her brothers and sisters in arms, Ava was subjected to years of physical, mental and emotional torture and experimentation. Injected with a knock off super solider serum, she was given abilities that were powerful but hard to control. Her emotions were heightened, anger being the most prevalent of all. She was trained to become a weapon, a Hydra super soldier to rival the legendary Winter Soldier. Of the 10 recruits who were taken, only 3 made it through the experiments and training. Ava the Saint. Boyd, a young man from California with unparalleled telekinetic and telepathic abilities and Grayson, a man from Georgia with wolf like physicality.
With the 3 other survivors, Hydra formed a group of trained super killers, unleashing them ont he world to create chaos but more often than not, they were beaten back by supergroups int he various world countries they had been sent to. Over the years, Boyd and Grayson were both arrested and detained by Shield and called unaffiliated super terrorists. Ava always managed to evade capture. Ava escaped Hydra when it fell, fleeing underground and working for the black market as a hired assassin, thug or bodyguard. The first person she killed was her father, stowing away on the boat he had named for her and slicing his throat. Ava thought that would make her feel better. Yet she felt nothing.
When the blip came, like many others, she disappeared for 5 years. When she returned, it was to a world unmade. Ava tried to rally herself, but all of her money and belongings, her research were gone. She had to start fresh. She researched and plotted and planned, she charged extra for her services and when people didn’t pay, she made them hurt. Ava returned to the research she had been undertaking before the blip. The winter soldier had been a myth and then Hydra fell. He wasn’t the winter soldier anymore, he was Sargent James Barnes and Ava wanted him. To kill a myth was to pass into legend. So she tracked him down, from Brooklyn, to the boards of Wakanda and back to Washinton D.C. She found him in an apartment block which she promptly moved into it. She became Ava Grayson, American girl next door!
Ava moved in and after a staged incident, got Buckys attention. She became his friend, and later his confidante and lover. She outwardly comforted him and made Bucky think that she was just as kind and as lovely as she was making herself out to be. In fact the Saint had him hooked and if a broken heart would aid in her quest to destroy the Winter Soldier, then so be it.
