I love everything about Soldier: 76. he’s an old man built like a marble sculpture carved by the deities for a school group project. he’s your typical call of duty character equipped with stims and a noob tube and his ult is literally spray and pray. he’s your batman-esque brooding veteran dad named Jack that is accidentally cool every once in a while. this man is so typically “hero with a backstory” it verges on boring and blizzard was like, yep that’s our guy!

my favorite thing about the HBO Joel Miller fandom is that he can be literally anything you need him to be and it’d still be canon or at least canon adjacent

pre-outbreak fic? everything’s normal. it’s almost nostalgic in its 90s/00s ways

post-outbreak fic? Joel is a terrible, evil man twisted by a crippling pandemic. he is cruel. he is violent. he still loves reader

Jackson!Joel is my favorite. we’re still in-universe. he’s hopeful, he’s opening up. slow burn paradise.
