The Relationship Between Dalish and City Elves
In order to understand the relationship between these two umbrella groups of elves, we need to first understand how said groups came to be. That being the history of the Exalted March of the Dales. I made a big ol’ post about this a little while ago. You can read it in its entirety here if interested, but here’s the most relevant piece again: The aftermath.
In the Chantry’s “mercy,” Divine Renata I declared the following:
Worship of the elven gods is forbidden
All lands loyal to the Chantry must create segregated elven communities known as alienages
All elves given ‘refuge’ in the alienages must convert to Andrastiansism
All Chantry artwork depicting elves must be destroyed, save for a single mural of Shartan, with his ears docked to look human
All mention of elves, including the Canticle of Shartan, is removed from the canonical Chant of Light (though Professor Kenric in DA:I’s Jaws of Hakkon DLC says this happened before the Exalted March)
Almost all elven accounts of the experiences of the Exalted March were silenced; only those carried by the Dalish strongly persist
The alienages are far from ideal “refuge.” They do not have access to many services human communities have, like building upkeep, waste disposal, and sometimes something as simple as clean water. They are often walled off and over-crowded. (The Val Royeaux alienage is said to have 10 000 elves in a walled off area the size of the Denerim market, with walls so high the shadows they cast cover nearly the entire place.) Elves struggle to find stable work, as humans will only hire them for dangerous or underpaid jobs, if at all. But worst of all, alienages are subjected to complete “purges” if the elves are deemed too unruly; its citizens massacred by an army of guards.
A diaspora of elves known as the Dalish refused to accept these decrees dispersed across Thedas in nomadic/semi-nomadic clans, outside of human control. The Dalish attempt to preserve and relearn as much of their history and culture as they can. Every ten years they gather at an Arlathvhen to share and retell their knowledge, but over the many years clan cultures have grown in variance in many ways.
And so from 2:20 Glory onward, these two different groups of cultures have developed; those of elves living within human society, majority of which in the alienages, and those of elves living outside human society.
Now, here’s the thing: Up until recent advances in the franchise, the biggest problem between Dalish and city elves was misunderstanding, which I’ll get to in a minute. The first time we ever even see unwarranted flat-out hostility is in The Masked Empire. Then we hear about it in DA:I, how the Dalish are all stuck up and cruel to city elves. Before TME, the only time we see anything close to this is when Velanna barks angrily at a couple of city elves in Amaranthine, and this was after they were rude to her. But afterwards, she gifts them an elven amulet. It makes total sense that different clans would have different perspectives on their fellow elves in the cities, but there is something to be said about the lack of continuity in consistently seeing one thing, then suddenly consistently seeing another. If the writers were attempting to show differences across clans, in my opinion the better way to do that would be to establish it from point A to point B.
But as I said, the biggest problem still remains that Dalish elves and city elves simply do not understand each other very well. But that misunderstanding has not stopped them from for the most part, being kind to each other.

Let’s Talk About The Right of Annulment
The Right of Annulment is the legal right for templars to “purge” (murder) every single mage in any Circle of Magi deemed irredeemable. It is said that this is supposed to be a “last resort.” But like many things when it comes to the Chantry, what is claimed to be the intention is rarely actuality.

tropes to avoid when writing physically disabled characters - for able bodied muns (including neurodivergent muns).
please note these are just a few ones i see around a LOT on the few blogs there are for disabled characters (and there should be more disabled characters, please bring us more!). please note i have stuck to topics i feel comfortable speaking on due to my chronic fatigue syndrome / use of mobility aids, if i have missed out something you think is important it is because i did not want to speak over people with more experience, and therefore more knowledge, on that topic than i, so feel free to add on with your own suggestions (but please refrain from doing so if you are able-bodied unless you are very well educated).
- always remember that you, as someone who is not physically disabled, cannot fully understand what it is like for physically disabled people, which means if someone who IS spots something iffy about your portrayal, sit down and listen to them.
- don’t make your character self-hating / depressed solely because they are disabled, UNLESS they have only recently become disabled after previously being able-bodied and are battling internalized ableism, but don’t overdo it.
- do not refer to your character or their disability as a burden or nuisance.
- do not use the c slur in any form, including cr*ppling. just don’t do it. ever. (though you shouldn’t in general if you are not physically disabled)
- don’t only bring up your characters physical disability in angst threads.
- if your character is canonically disabled, do not downplay or erase it, even if other forms of media they were in did (e.g, peeta mellark writers who don’t write him as an amputee simply because the movies erased it).
- please note even if you are neuro-divergent or suffer from mental illness in general, you are by no means exempt from being ableist towards physically disabled people (and vice versa!), keep this in mind and do not use this to justify anything ableist within your portrayal that is pointed out to you.
- don’t just throw in a disability for ‘inclusivity points’ and only mention it when convenient, do your research on the disability your character has, whether they are a canon or oc, don’t just rely on information about the disability given to you by canon material.
- speaking of, don’t shy away from mentioning your characters disability! if they use aids and you’re writing your character doing something, don’t be afraid to mention their aids! if they have a prosthetic, don’t be afraid to mention those either!
- if your character is a wheelchair / general mobility aid user, don’t automatically assume your muse would decorate their aids, put real thought into it, as some people just don’t want too, and if they have, put real thought into why they have. our mobility aids are often seen as akin to limbs for us, and decorating a mobility aid is something that is very personal (but there’s nothing wrong with your character just wanting it to look pretty! just make sure it fits with the character).
but most importantly, if you are not physically disabled, do not speak over physically disabled people. listen to muns who ARE physically disabled if they want to talk to you about something to do with your portrayal, don’t be afraid to ask us for help if you need it, just PLEASE DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH FIRST, we are not your own personal encyclopedias, do research and if you cannot find what you are looking for, THEN ask. it is tiring to constantly be asked questions that can be answered with a simple google search.

Hey there G! :'3 I was wondering if there was anyway you could explain to me how to change posts sizes on a theme. I'm trying to make theme posts 350 px but everytime I do the images I've reblogged disappear. If the posts are 400 or 500 px they are there, but if I go any smaller they're gone again. p.s thank you for being so helpful always.
hello there nonny…
post widths are quite often the bane of theme makers lives… O_O  tumblr standard code will render your post blocks in the following widths by default - 250px, 400px, 500px, 700px - why this is, we may never know… - if you look at tumblr standard code ( for example for photosets ) you can see the sizes here -
Tumblr media
which is why most theme makers will stick to these standard sizes.  anything other will require a little extra code tinkering.
i’ll walk through changing post size on my ‘in flux’ theme - it’s currently set as a standard 400px post theme, but we’ll notch it down to your required 350px.
here’s our ‘starting’ basic theme…
you might want to make sure you can see a text post, a video, a photo and a photoset on your theme live preview when editing…
Tumblr media
first of all we’re going to make the container smaller and the post width smaller…
on line 203 of the code - we’ll take 50 px off the post container size -on line 190 of the code - we’ll take 50px off the post size -
now - you’ll see our text posts look fine -
Tumblr media
and our single photo posts are probably okay too - that’s because in this theme, i’ve already included a little bit of code on line 177;
img {    max-width:100%;}
if your photo posts have messed up at this point, you might want to add that bit of code to the css in your theme.
the code for photo posts in this theme is on line 423
{block:Photo}{block:Caption}{Caption}{/block:Caption}{/block:Photo}
you can change the block size to {PhotoURL-500} - as long as the reference is LARGER than your post size and you include the ‘max-width-100%’ in your css - all photos will be forced into the right size for your post width.
but if we look at our photosets and our video posts - they’re still sitting at the ‘400px’ post size and sticking out to the right a bit :(
Tumblr media Tumblr media
now we need to make sure our photosets and videos will fit
for photosets, it’s quite an easy fix… scroll right down to the html for the post blocks ( right down at the bottom )  on line 425 you’ll see the block for photosets -
{block:Photoset}{Photoset-400}{block:Caption}{Caption}{/block:Caption}{/block:Photoset}
all we’re going to do here is take out the reference to the ‘400′ post width.  delete that line and paste in the following;
{block:Photoset}{Photoset}{block:Caption}{Caption}{/block:Caption}{/block:Photoset}
this will now be picked up by the css we referred to earlier - the ‘max-width:100%;’
videos are a little trickier as they won’t be picked up by the image max-width.
we need to add in some extra css now -
.video {    width:350px!important;}
.video iframe {    width:350px!important;}
just pop that anywhere in the css section of your theme - then scroll down to the video html section and add in the reference to your new css like so-
{block:Video}
{Video-400}
{block:Caption}{Caption}{/block:Caption}{/block:Video}
again, as long as the video size is LARGER than the one you’re setting in your css, it will work fine!  here’s our video post nicely resized -
Tumblr media
one last thing you want to check when resizing posts is the width of your notes on your permalink pages.
by changing the width of the posts, my notes are now a little too big…
Tumblr media
in this theme, i only had to take 50px off the width of the notes to get them to line up again…
Tumblr media
you may also need to check your tags/permalink etc, depending on how your particular theme is coded and make sure all widths are in line with your new post size…
but that’s about it… :3
if you found this useful, a like or reblog is always appreciated!

So you never give them a chance. You hit first. And anyone dumb enough to hit back soon finds that there’s no hurting you, sheathed in all that hard, glossy armor. Then why does it hurt so much? Why does it feel like I’m losing my mind, Eliot?
