#no and I have an entire theory on this after teaching a creative writing class and listening to how my students talked about books #basically social media has merged all creative expression into ‘content’ and ‘if you like x y z you’ll LOVE…’ type recommendations #what’s more i actually think identity politics play into this as well bc the way they talk about books #it’s like #if there’s gay it’s good. if there’s bad people it’s problematic #and everything is soooo surface level and morality based #and the morality of books is based on the morality of the consumer/reader #so instead of talking about a book being good bc of the finer aspects of writing plot character etc #it’s basically alll…… it has x so it is good bc x is good #which like… sure #but #a quality that can make something good is not sufficient to deem it so #k i’m outta here bye
