Things that got me through college.
These are a list of habits and practices I did in college to keep up on work and get good grades.
Notes
Keep two notebooks for each class.
One that you take notes during class and it can be as messy and I typically only use one color pen and highlighter to keep up with even the fastest teachers.
The second notebook you use after each class (or as soon as possible) and this is for your pretty detailed notes. Try and use active recall questions to make sure there is no gaps in your understanding. I also would try and write it in my own words to make it easier to remember.
After each lecture make flash cards (either online or physical) and have these for anytime you have free time you can quiz yourself.
Scheduling
Plan out your day!
Use some kind of calendar and time block every hour of your day. Plan out when you are gonna study, eat, sleep, free time all of it. This will help you make sure that you are making time for yourself.
I typically do this on Sundays for the whole week and it keeps me from getting decision fatigue while keeping you productive.
Study daily
Even if it’s just for 20 mins make sure you are keeping up your knowledge.
Try different study methods on different days. Flash cards for all your classes Monday. Going over your past quizzes Tuesday. Practice questions Wednesday so on so on. This can be personalized to your schedule.
Take care of yourself
Make sure you are eating sleeping and spending time with friends.
Call your family and old friends
Take yourself out for coffee or to the movies
Also make sure you are exercising regularly however you like to.
Do things ahead of time
I literally wrote down all my due dates as the day before to give myself a day of cushion just in case.
Never plan to study right before the test. What if you sleep in late or something comes up? Always study ahead of time.
Get to know your professors
Go to there office hours and ask questions in class.
Professors have hundreds of students that don’t care about their class. I have found typically professors love having students that actually care about their subject.
When I’m taking notes I write down anything confusing to ask at office hours
Get out of your dorm
You are paying thousands of dollars for college you are allowed to exist and study anywhere on campus.
Study in the library or the cafes anywhere you like.
Explore campus find cool places to hangout.
Feel free to add your own!

dress up just to study, chew on the caps of your highlighters while you scribble notes in the margins of your books, put your feet up on your desk and drink cinnamon tea with too much sugar, learn calligraphy and write your favorite quotes on pages of old books and tape them to your wall, drink wine and read in the bath and use that bathbomb you keep forgetting is in your cabinet, play your favorite music play classical music play music from the 20s and dance down your hallway just because, call your friends and read aloud like each word is the most important one on the page, see if you can light enough candles to not need to use a lamp and open your window even though it’s cold, go for a walk and see if you can take a turn you haven’t taken before, live life as a challenge of how fun and dramatic a tiny world can be

10 Things I Wish I Knew Before University
You are going to feel like dropping out. I would say to stick it out for the first year and sit for finals. If you get a good grade for your finals, that could really give your confidence a boost and motivate you to keep going. And then, if you still feel like dropping out or changing majors, you should do as much research as possible.
Feeling pressured to do more things. During my first year, I said yes to everything–even things that I didn’t feel like doing. I felt like if I didn’t, I’d be missing out on something really important or fun. FOMO, basically. However, more often than not, I wasn’t missing much and these opportunities will arise again very soon.
Buying too many unnecessary things. I bought so many stationery and notebooks before I started uni in hopes that they would motivate me to study. I ended up not using even half of them my first year. At least, I’d be set for supplies until I graduate.
Revising in uni is not the same as revising in high school. I used to think I could study last minute for a test, like I did in high school. I learned the hard way that that wasn’t the case at all. Now, I review the topics after every lecture. The key is to keep up because all those lectures are going to pile up really fast.
Past papers are your new best friend. I find that professors have their favourite questions that they like to give out. During finals, they might even use the same exact questions as they did in tests!
Failing/Getting a low grade in a test isn’t going to ruin your life. I once got so caught up on that one test. But luckily during finals, I snapped out of it and just tried my best. My final grade wasn’t too bad. You live and you learn.
Wear whatever you want (as long as it doesn’t get you in trouble). When I wear a hoodie and sweatpants, I get comments that I look like I just rolled out of bed (which I did, duh). And when I have really nice makeup on and do my hair, I’m trying to impress someone. I think people just like to run their mouth and it’s nothing personal, so you shouldn’t care what they say anyway.
Keep in touch with friends outside your university. It can really come in handy during times when you really have to vent about someone in your classes. They can also help you keep grounded and have a different perspective.
You don’t have to love the library. I’m the kind of girl who studies lying on her stomach on the bed with papers and books surrounding me and my cat stepping on them occasionally. I think the library is too quiet and public for me. And if you’re the same way and prefer the cafe or elsewhere, then that’s okay too. The goal here is that you get your studying done.
Stay healthy. Whenever it’s near finals, I would abandon every other responsibility except studying. I would stop eating healthy and quit exercising, all in the name of making time to study. But they should go hand-in-hand with studying and not one or the other. I find that the better I take care of myself, the better my grades are. You should also get enough sleep–this, I never fail to do.
