“denied the catharsis of punishment” is an underappreciated but hugely effective narrative consequence imo

I'm so happy you chose this scene! Look at my sweethearts twirling!
And Merrylee is so cute! I love her so much!
I keep forgetting that you have to design all my vaguely described people and their clothes and everything. My brain is so bad at visuals, so it's such fun seeing how you've envisioned everything.
That's a clever trick leaving all the background people in one colour so Sybil and Vetinari pop! And the gorgeous background and everything!

Chapter 11: Merry Meetings (here on AO3)
“Here comes the lift,” Lady Rust said with a dazzling smile, and turned back to the dance floor.
Merrylee did the same, though she knew what she would see; poor Lady Sybil and Lord Vetinari would simply have to do the turn as normal like the old people-
Lady Sybil put her arm around Lord Vetinari’s waist and lifted him easily into the air, turning around with him in a graceful swirl of skirts, and for a moment, Lord Vetinari smiled in delight, fully and openly. A handful of couples stumbled, and one fell over in sheer surprise, for it was a sight that, unbeknownst to Merrylee, no one in that room had seen before.
Lady Rust’s face was white with rage."
[ID's in Alt] a big illustration for my favorite scene in my favorite chapter

If the right way is too hard, fuck it. Do it the wrong way.
Folding clothes keeps you from getting the laundry done? Stop folding clothes. Put a basket in your room and throw your unfolded clean stuff into it right out of the dryer, it's fine.
Rinsing dishes off keeps you from loading the dishwasher? Load them dirty and run it twice.
Chopping onions keeps you from making yourself dinner? Buy the freezer bags of chopped onions.
You forget to take your meds and don't want to get out of bed to get them? Start putting them next to the bed.
Can't keep up with the dishes? Get paper plates. Worried about environment impact? Order biodegradable ones online if your local store doesn't have one.
Make the task easier. Put things where you use them instead of where they "go." Eliminate the steps that keep you from finishing the task. Eliminate the task that is stressing you out.
Do it the "wrong" way. It's literally fine.

This fandom is a little unique in that people come to it from a lot of different sources. There's the black & white film from 1934, the TV show from 82, the BBC show from 99, the musical and the Takarazuka version of the musical, and NONE of these adaptations follow the book's descriptions of the characters. So when the fanart isn't book accurate, that's frequently down to the adaptations.
Also, some significant details about the characters aren't emphasised until later books, like how unusually tall and how strong Percy is and what a teeny tiny little ferret man Chauvelin is, which is my favourite aspect of their description, and has sadly never been used by any adaptation.
Or Chauvelin's greying hair for that matter, which is mentioned in Sir Percy hits back at least, but not in the original book, I think, which is the one most people have read.
Baroness Orczy: "Chauvelin was then nearer forty than thirty"
The Scarlet Pimpernel Fandom: No <3 *Ages him down significantly*
