does anyone else sometimes feel like the fandom they're in is slipping from their fingers, and you're like, "no pls, don't leave me, I literally didn't even start being in another fandom or gave you any other reason for me to stop liking this fandom and my ships in it," but your brain just says: "Boo, now is not the time, we need to find another fandom", and you literally just try to chill in your old fandom, but you get the ultimate block and can't think of anything related to this fandom and feel like you need to distance yourself from yourself, bc i do that every few months and i hate myself for it

of course my first post on here is gonna be my latest …old? returning? fandom LMAO these were my first drawings of The Hobbit in many years. last time i drew anything LOTR related the very first movie of The Hobbit was hosting it’s midnight release!

There you go @reshirement :D the bagginshield sneakers (also yes i have shoelaces but I’m still coloring those, Thorin’s will be golden and Bilbo’s a dark red)

And idk if you can recognize it but the colorful parts are: Thorin’s gold with some coins as details and Bilbo’s is his dressing gown pattern, ik it is darker in canon and i wanted to apply a light shade of black after it dried but i just liked it better this way it was so i kept the lighter colors :D

So I go with tea, something that i actually like xD

I basically just finished my second graduation, today was the last big exam that I was nervous about and now next Monday and Tuesday I have some more exams but I don't really need to study for those anymore. So I’m finally free again :’) (i swear next year when it’s time for the third graduation I’m gonna cry lol and the exams went really really well and I'm just super relieved and happy about that rn).

Oh and I got a puppy!!!!!!! (he is my son now and he constantly tries to eat my furniture)

Honestly, I’ve been writing since like 10 years now I think and I’ve been publishing fics since 2013 and those thoughts never left me?

I think it’s just the everlasting doubt of my fics being ‘unoriginal’ or ‘bad’. Every time I read over my stuff I think it’s too OOC or that no one really would want to read it but I post it anyway because I am like “Well, maybe someone will like it”.

When I had my old blog I used to post my fics there and then I reblogged like a TON of stuff from others so people wouldn’t see the post with the fic first when they entered my blog that’s how anxious I was about posting them lol

I worried a ton about what to post, be it drawings or fics, and I still do! If you wanna be sure that your writing is not too OOC or if some sentences just sound weird I recommend you a beta! Some betas may read over your fic only for typos or errors in your grammar but most (at least the betas I had till now) tell you if there are errors in your plot or if some paragraphs just should be rewritten. Honestly betas are a blessing and I feel 100% better when my beta reads over my fics or friends look at my drawings before I post them.

Often they are encouraging as well and you know that there are at least some people already who like your stuff so posting isn’t that hard anymore. Furthermore: There is no “wrong” when writing, drawing, etc. There are always people who will like your stuff, who will appreciate it and who will have a 10 times better day just by reading your fic!

For advice: Make playlists for different characters! If you are writing about a cold hearted character make a playlist with harsh and fast songs for example. Imo it’s a lot easier to write those kind of characters then and a lot less likely to make them OOC. Make moodboards, look for moodboards, read about the characters lore, listen to interviews, etc. If you surround yourself with the character they are a lot easier to write. A writing plan helps you with planning the fic as well, especially if you show your outlines to some of your friends and they tell you their thoughts and give you advice.

And overall: Have fun while writing! It’s your hobby and your passion, not your work. You don’t need to prove yourself and who cares if Thorin gives Bilbo a flower crown first encounter just bc he is head over heels? Who cares if your headcanon family tree isn’t the same as the canon family tree? It’s your story, you choose how to write it!

There will always be people who will appreciate your work.

Fic writers, my question to you is....HOW???? I’ve literally been writing half of this pairing for ages now and I still get weird wanting to make sure it’s decent enough to post for the world to see.

The ever present questions of “What if this is garbage?” “What if someone thinks it’s too ooc?” “How do words?” I just wanna get into fic drabbles/ficlets (since I do a lot of partner/rp writing anyways!)

Any advice or words of encouragement are welcome! I’m a nervous nellie and worry over e v e r y t h i n g. 🤣🤣🤣
