Thinking about Steve sitting on the couch in the middle of their lived-in apartment--vaugely messy but definitely homey, dishes drying in the rack, dinner simmering on the stove, and remnants of their friends in photographs and gifts--with Bucky on the floor between his legs. They're watching something mindless on TV, nothing loud, just barely enough to keep their attention, really.

Amidst the hum of the evening, Steve is braiding Bucky's hair. And Steve's about halfway through the braid--his artists' fingers, long and thick but deft, too, brushing through the chocolate-colored waves--he tugs softly on Bucky's hair. His pulling is just hard enough to send Bucky back to the schoolyard, watching his classmates pull on girls' pigtails and enough to make him feel a tingling sensation throughout his scalp; shivering, melting down his back, and raising goosebumps.

After a particularly shiver-inducing tug, Bucky breathlessly sways back into the couch and into Steve, following thoughtlessly.

Just then, Steve leans forward as he pulls Bucky's head back, lips brushing the shell of his ear, ticklish, "you look so pretty down there, you're hair all nice," and Bucky fucking melts. The praise and comfort wrapping him up and leaving him floating.

Bucky could stay here forever as a puddle, completely unthinking, only listening to Steve's low rumble, only feeling his heavy, soothing touch, only relishing in this. Here.

"What a good, pretty boy," Steve purrs.

Bucky just exhales shakily, wordless.
